Astrid acts like a male media stereotype of an autistic person, not a real autistic woman
22 June 2024
I started watching this due to high reviews and recommendation. Apparently the lead female role is of an autistic woman. But I cannot fathom how awkward and unrealistic she comes across for me, an adult woman who IS autistic. She's nothing like any autistic woman I know, she's a horrifically stiff stereotype of very male-coded austistic savant.

If you want to see a better and more realistic portrayal of an austistic adult woman without learning disabilities, someone who isn't written by a male team deciding to develop a series specifically on the premise that the lead "suffers" from Aspergers as a "disabled" plot point (their words, not mine) Broen's Saga Noren is far more realistic and nuanced as a character. Also Broen never tried to sell itself purely on the premise of someone being autistic as a novel and trendy way to be different from other generic crime whodunnits.

Maybe its entertaining for neurotypicals to laugh at this socially awkward stereotype but for those of us who are actually autistic, it's an insult to our intelligence to portray someone quite so gratingly stiff and unrealistic.
