Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story (2021)
Great Indian miniseries and a must watch if you liked season 1
In my opinion, 1.5 is a big step up from the Ikhlaq Khan story as it's more engaging. Writing as well as the action is surely better. I am just appalled at some of the writing choices in the last episode. Maybe it's because I just finished it but I am still trying to process how stupid it was to kil off Vijay in such a dumb way, if Himmat shooting her was the right choice considering she may have not even known who she was helping, and how Himmat replaces his friend in his friend's family. Overall, a great Indian miniseries and a must watch if you liked season 1.

What a blast! Malayalam cinema is rocking this year
You guys weren't kidding, eh? What a blast! Malayalam cinema is rocking this year. A superb entertainer. Loved it. Everyone did a great job. FaFa mass! I loved the depth given to Ranga that is portrayed brilliantly by FaFa. Ranga can eat 100 Pushpas in breakfast after his morning routine. Drop everything and go for it.

Maaveeran (2023)
Very entertaining and unique superhero origin story. Fan making stuff by Sivakarthikeyan.
So, so entertaining. Fan making stuff by Sivakarthikeyan. Super action, humor, plot, acting, fight choreography, emotions, drama, underdog story, writing, cinematography and terrific conviction in narrating a brand new origin story for superpowers. The last shot is ducking awesome. Just amazing creativity. I loved it, ok? Veerame Jayam!

Sand Land: The Series (2024)
Good fun. RIP Akira Toriyama
Good fun. The second arc of the show is more entertaining than the first as it features a lot more crazy action while the first is mainly about uncovering the water conspiracy. The animation, quirky characters like the Swimmers and character designs makes it seem like a spin-off of Dragon Ball. Dabura makes an appearance but I believe demon king Dabura from Majin Buu saga and King Lucifer are not the same character. In this world where "demons" live among humans, it is funny how the main antagonist of the second arc is an "angel" while the cartoony "demons" are the victims and are still looked down as fiends even though they mean no harm including Lucifer who is busy with board games lol.
Beezlebub proudly proclaiming his "evildoing" with laughably harmless habits coming across as the most innocent being ever shaking-hands-emoji the Flash being smug about not washing his hands after peeing because it's evil in DCAU.
RIP Akira Toriyama.
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)
A Hansal Mehta masterpiece.
Everything and everyone is pitch perfect. Great television. Assuming the story is mostly true to history, I just want to say.. Suchita Dalal, what a bit ch! I mean, what an ash ole. Acting as an agent of Bear cartel, she continuously did a hit job on an outsider Harshad until his end while letting Kedia, monopoly of foreign banks, PM, Swami to go scott free even though everyone was exploiting the same loopholes. I don't know if it was her performance or portrayal, but she seemed to be obsessed with him. What a bi t ch. No one else had their families targetted. I suspect she was being paid to end one man's life. How come she never investigated the PM? What happened to facts then? I am sure the show left out many facts that further villainizes her and shows her true colors. Ofcourse nobody is saying Harshad Mehta was a saint. He was a product of his time and he did what he could to make money. Infact it was the bear cartel who extended the brokers' strike and Suchita Dalal who wrote the 500 crore SBI article that directly led to common man losing their life savings and ending their own lives because in the absence of those two events, Harshad would have returned all the money after collecting profits or selling some of his holdings. I am not saying no one lost money and Harshad made profits for everyone but the common folks investing in stock markets after listening to Harshad knew about the risks. I also see how Harshad's personality may have irked some people who may have tried to betray him like Bhushan Bhatt. I don't even know if Bhushan is based on a real person but if he wanted to be a partner, he should have told them instead of repressing his anger. What an id iot. See I like Harshad as a person based on this show but I am not defending him because of that. I just hate Suchita and I don't want to argue with anyone. God, it's been so long since I have absolutely hated a female character.
Scam 2003 - The Telgi Story (2023)
Good follow-up to Scam 1992 but the theme belongs to Pratik Gandhi's Harshad Mehta
No doubt the central performance by Gagan Dev Riar is great. Abdul Karim Telgi was a fraud/thief and it was a clear scam from beginning to end. He was like a don who kept police and politicians in his pocket. He had also killed someone. The last episode tries hard to sympathize with him but he is not Harshad Mehta and there is no bit ch Suchita Dalal this time lol. Worth a watch, especially since Hansal Mehta just announced Scam 2010.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Good but not as awesome as the Matt Reeves' Caesar trilogy
It's good but not as awesome as the Matt Reeves' Caesar trilogy. Noah is a good protagonist to kick off this new chapter. Killing off the only ape that remembers Caesar is a wildly inappropriate decision and serves no purpose at all. It's bull crap. Also, I didn't like the misdirection of showing humans as being devolved in the trailer and towards the beginning but then not only the girl is normal and suddenly starts speaking but the film also shows humans alive and kicking inside isolated quarantined bunkers. I went in expecting no intelligent humans. Maybe most people want smart humans in this new POTA franchise but honestly I could have done without them. Honestly this reveal spoiled my experience a little but Noah learning about how apes and humans used to live and Noah asking Mae if they should go back to silence made up for it. I am just glad they didn't make Mae a villain but its amusing how the apes witnessed a human killing another human and Noah learnt to say sh it because of her. Also that idi ot white guy reading Roman Empire to the apes. No wonder Proximus broke bad and twisted Caesar's words. Should have read him the Ramayana. Eagles are a nice addition and its fun to look at vegetation covered human areas and technology that seems ancient now only to be reminded of still surviving intelligent humans in the end. Facepalm. The CGI is still top notch and I also liked the direction the film was heading towards for the apes at the end with Noah taking keen interest in the telescope.
Transformers (2007)
The one that started it all.
Now this is an awesome Transformers movie. Great, sexy, funny sci-fi, military action thriller. It's insane how none of the Bayformers movies won an Oscar for visual effects. People who prefer c rap Rise of the Beasts over this are gey. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just love when they explain the plausible science in sci-fi movies and answer questions like how the transformers can speak English.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
What a spectacle!
Damn what a spectacle. I guess I am enjoying these transformers movies more than I should but the action is indeed spectacular and the movies are so sexy, I can't help. Although some of the humor was falling flat. Shia being hyperverbal and saying dialogues in a hurry is not that funny. I don't remember him being that way in the last two. Jerry Wang is one of the most annoying characters ever. But there are some surprisingly cool plot twists and betrayals that keep happening and transformers as well as human action in the second half is pretty awesome. Both transformers and most of the human elements in the second half are pretty engaging. I do appreciate Michael Bay recontextualizing real-life historical events. Cool deaths, amazing VFX as always, maybe too long and the new girl is smoking hot just like Megan Fox in the first two movies. Transformers spurting out red color liquid while getting slaughtered is a nice addition.
Just FYI, I am watching this franchise with a friend who is a fan and has already watched all of them. Otherwise, I wasn't planning to watch it on my own. I don't understand the negative reviews or people who watch these movies just to hate them. These movies should be judged/enjoyed as Transformers media, not as films.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Another cool addition to Bay's sci-fi military action thriller franchise with interesting new lore
More sweet Transformers lore with organic aliens, Cybertronian bounty hunter, the Creators, the seed, the dinobots, hint of origin of transformers expanding their universe in ways I never would have imagined and a well-executed sci-fi action thriller with relentlessly amazing visual effects and action. It feels a lot different from the previous three movies precisely because the autobots are being hunted and humans have made a deal with an alien bounty hunter in exchange for a substance to create their own man-made transformers. The new human cast is good too but I would have preferred Optimus or Bumblebee to have mentioned Sam once atleast. I am absolutely enjoying the Bayverse so far. These movies are so much fun and bonkers conceptually and visually! RIP Ratchet.
El hoyo (2019)
Disgusting shock value and a disappointingly pessimistic representation of human nature
Yuck disgusting af. I don't give a duck about your critique of capitalism, socialism, communism especially when there is no resolution and every path leads to murder and chaos if your view of humanity is so bleak and terrifying. What is the use of such a critique? Who is it helping? Spitting, vomiting, pooping, urinating on others and food, cannibalism, rape is not the smart critique of human nature or greed as you think it is. Why is cannibalism favored more than starving to death? Writers think they are such geniuses lmao. In real world, rich/more fortunate people don't literally poop on poor/less fortunate people. Even the MC vomits on the food after acting all concerned. There are hardly a couple of honorable characters like the cancer woman who killed herself and Baharat. That old man is one of the sickest, most vile characters I have seen in fiction. This film needs a Korean or Japanese remake.
ST. FU about the "hair in panna cotta" ending theory, "girl is not real" theory, "MC is dead before the last level and is hallucinating the girl" theory. What rubbish. Ending is not satisfying at all. The real questions are why does he get off the platform at the last level (333)? Why is he walking in the dark with his hallucination? Will the girl be splattered on the ceiling due to the platform's acceleration? What happened to Asian Marilyn Monroe's deal? Why did she turn so violent? Understandable since the hole is filled with sick men. Was she raped or already pregnant? We know nothing about the motivation of people entering the hole by will or by force or the people who constructed it or the administration. Does the outside world know of such a place? What is the government doing? Is it supernatural? Is everything ab allegory? Is it a population control mechanism? Is it christian hell? If it is a social experiment mandated by the government, why does nobody have a clue what is happening in the lower levels? How far down does the hole go inside the Earth's crust? Without cameras, how does it detect people hoarding the food? How does it control the temperature on each level when the levels are not even closed airtight? If you expect people to only take their favorite food, you should have told them that before letting them in. Actually you should give people the full picture before letting them in. Only 1 underaged girl in the entire hole hidden and being fed by her (adopted?) mother so how does it make sense that the hole is accepting kids and the kid being there is the message? Even if the girl is the message irrespective of how she entered the hole, will they change the entire system for her? What is the logic behind thinking an untouched dish being sent back is the message?
Sorry, but this film cannot be an allegory or representation of the real world systems and human nature.
Romancham (2023)
Arjun Ashokan saved the movie
Arjun Ashokan saved the movie. He is hilarious. The movie is mostly a slice of life comedy of these particular Malayali bachelor men living in a rented house in Bangalore for the most part with horror elements only starting to come in towards the end of the 2nd half. The thought of stop watching fades away once the Ouija board drama starts, atleast in my case. But it ends a little disappointingly after some genuine horror elements.

Munjya (2024)
Another well made horror comedy entry in the MSU
Loved it. Very good horror comedy although in my opinion, it leans more towards horror but which is not too scary. I especially liked the Munjya lore and I am stoked for the upcoming sequels as well as Samantha and Ayushmann's Vampires of Vijaynagar. I am also loving the use of different regional folklores and bringing them to the masses through these films. I need to rewatch Stree now. Vfx and cgi are good enough for its small budget although the Munjya character could have looked better. Bhediya cameo is ok I guess. Making cameos in each other's movies does not make it a universe. Looking forward to actual crossovers in the future. Sharvari and Abhay Verma did a good job. While the hallelujah bit was funny, I don't understand Sathyaraj's character declaring that he doesn't convert. I call bul.lshit on that. All those sick hallelujah programs of fake miracles, instant healing, crazy people jumping and shaking in India are definitely run by missionaries to convert the locals. Sharvari is fire in the Taras song.
PS. Every link to Maddock Supernatural Universe on the internet includes Roohi as part of the universe but unfortunately, instead of planning to bring Mudiyapairi back with better writing, the makers have officially kicked Roohi out of this universe lol. Poor Jhanvi.
Poor Things (2023)
Absurdly weird but fascinatingly experimental
Absurdly weird but fascinatingly experimental. And definitely funny. Sorry I missed any messages in the film because I was too fascinated by the laughably impossible science fiction in this film and the aesthetics of the world this film takes place in. I am just dumbfounded by all the weird visuals, direction and the font. Was it trying to say something about men, women and society? Totally missed it. Since women with literally newborn baby brains don't exist, it's best if I try not to think too hard about Bella's actions and men's behavior towards her. I will say this though. If Duncan Wedderburn does not know that Bella Baxter has a literal newborn's brain, his reactions does not make him that bad. Who ring in the guise of women empowerment and sekzual liberation and independence and experiencing self should never be glorified. Duck that. A baby brain doing it to experience pleasure is a whole different subject. There are many other life experiences other than seks. I don't even know what to make of men who are either taking advantage of her or who love her because of her naivety. I don't understand why would a newborn brain with rapidly gained experience will cry reacting to poverty. The only truly evil man was the husband of Victoria and he got what he deserved lmao. Ok what the duck was that bubble coming out of Godwin's mouth? Oh yeah, Godwin's father was another truly evil man. Come to think of it, why did Godwin have to do that baby like that? Why did Max love her even after knowing she has a literal baby brain? I am glad I watched it because it is something very different and increasingly fascinating to think about when it comes to absurd science fiction. If brain transplant, which isn't medically possible right now, in science fiction genre fascinates you too, I recommend checking out an anime called Heavenly Delusion.
Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)
Quite entertaining with cool and stylistic animation
It is pretty entertaining and has some pretty cool and stylistic animation and fight scenes. I don't get why Po has to become the spiritual leader and find a successor to become the next Dragon Warrior. Umm, he is not even that old. He can spend his younger days as the Dragon Warrior fighting enemies of peace. It's like Peter Parker immediately retiring after getting his powers to find a successor and becomes his mentor. It makes no sense. Why should Po become a spiritual leader in his youth? They show a bunch of new villains that Po defeated or sent to the Spirit Realm. So where are their movies? Anyway, this film expands the Kung Fu world with the addition of Juniper City and its inhabitants unaware of The Dragon Warrior or any of Po's adventures in the trilogy. Got some Zootopia/The Bad Guys vibes. If Oogway's stick can steal kung fu from previous villains, why not do that temporarily to defeat a new villain and give the stolen kung fu back to the Spirit Realm lol. The Chameleon is a really good villain. The absence of The Furious Five did not bother me. Zhen is a nice character but why choose her as the next Dragon Warrior lol.
Viduthalai Part 1 (2023)
Great film but too graphic in violence against women
Great film. I can't really single out Soori because even though he is brilliant as Kumaresan, every single actor in Vetrimaaran films understands the assignment. As others have pointed out, even I noticed scenes suddenly moving to the next scene as soon as a dialogue is spoken. Either they are all editing errors or they were all intentionally cut to the next scene to fit a fixed runtime. I don't completely understand the politics or objectives of People's Army. Foreign mining company or domestic mining company, how tf does it matter? Ofcourse resources will be used to build roads, hospitals or whatever. I think it is obvious that they did not cause the train accident, whose aftermath was masterfully shot in one-take btw, but are the policemen really this evil? This level of brutality, torture and violence against innocent people including women by the police crosses all limits. I hope the next part shows CBI investigations into their crimes against humanity. If People's Army is against the police for torturing women, then why is Perumal nicely hiding from police while the women are being tortured? This film needed a righteous character like Kumaresan who just can't catch a break. It's a heavy subject matter to watch. I hope the next part expands on Perumal's motivations, explains the train accident and punishes every pos cop.
Lover (2024)
Excellent, well-written drama revolving around a toxic relationship
"Will you ask your mother to give your father one last chance?"
Excellent, well-written drama revolving around a toxic relationship with great performances by the cast and good music. The guy is so toxic and such guys do exist. But the film does not glorify his toxicity and gives us an idea into what led this guy to be so toxic. He doesn't see the error of his behavior even after being called out on it as well as after discussing it with one of her friends and being laughed at. He appears completely different in his memories of their 6 year relationship. His insecurity and over-possessive controlling toxic behavior was giving me a second hand embarrassment. The girl was right about him and his cheap mentality. He himself destroyed the love they had. What an idiot. I loved the ending. These 8 stars are for the rest of the film that follows the line in quotes above.
Bramayugam (2024)
Hoping to enjoy it but it ended up being a little disappointing
I was hoping to enjoy it but it ended up being a little disappointing. It has been correctly compared to The Lighthouse. While the latter references Greek mythology, the former references Hindu mythology. I guess Yakshi is equivalent to mermaid in The Lighthouse. I was not bored, per say, as I was genuinely interested in the proceedings but by the time it ended, it wasn't satisfying for me as it was when Tumbbad did. I felt the same as when I watched The Lighthouse. Nothing. Tumbbad, for me, is certainly better than both this as well as Kantara.
Many things are just there for the sake of it. Like Yakshi, the rotating room from Inception, walls closing and appearing on their own. I don't get it. Just saying Chathan creates a different realm around it does not make it one. I appreciate the masterful filmmaking, storytelling, the performances, cinematography, background score, and production design but there's no payoff in the end like Tumbbad. The cook suddenly switches character at the last minute and instead of escaping, he wants power by controlling the Chathan. First of all, why would a Hindu Goddess gift a slave Chathan to fulfill her devotees' wishes? This is not a Greek myth. Is the ending supposed to be like Ex Machina? Chathan is free to live among humans? It seems Chathan not only mimics the host physically but also mentally which explains all the conversation it makes throughout the film. It's hiding under the stairs instead of attacking which makes me wonder if it killed the others while they were asleep or unconscious. There are supernatural elements like the dice scene, not able to leave the mansion, making it rain at will, memory loss, losing sanity after looking inside a Chathan's glowing mouth which keep you intrigued. Watch it because it's something different from conventional horror and well-made at that.
Doctor (2021)
Well-written black comedy with plenty of fun and action BUT
Well-written black comedy with plenty of fun and action. Why do I feel like Nelson's movies are overly convoluted with a LOT going on. As in, there are always a lot of twists and turns and sometimes its difficult to keep track of everything. It's pretty entertaining with good humor but it requires some suspension of disbelief. I don't understand how does slapping your hand many times makes it numb to amputation. How? How does that even happen? Lmao. Good work by Anirudh and Yogi Babu as always. Vinay Rai is in this. I have come to realize that Vinay Rai's movies are always good. Raghu and Rajiv play villainous twins again after Tees Maar Khan. Sivakarthikeyan gets a nice, poker-faced character to play and he plays the part well. The character is eccentric enough to warrant a franchise or a sequel. Nelson should go for Doctor 2 instead of Jailer 2.
Jailer (2023)
Fantastic first half but messy second half brought it down
More like 6.5. Enjoyed the first half, but the messy second half brought it down. The whole thing felt like an assembly of cool build up sequences that amounts to nothing. Still watchable, thanks to Anirudh, his soundtrack single-handedly defined & elevated the entire movie. Loved the colors, cinematography and Nelson's signature black comedy but the second half dragged a lot, got repetitive, boring and didn't seem to end. It ended up being a chore to sit through but Anirudh's Hukum is a life saver of this movie. Nelson's films seem to have convoluted plots that contain a lot of twists and turns. It's gory violence and the action is entertaining and well done. It's got a good plot. First half is excellent and the superstar cameos must be a treat for the fans but not for those who are unfamiliar with them. Sunil's track was not that funny and unnecessarily stretches the runtime. Kaavaalaa is a bad song. Funny how Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi actors are given mass treatment but Telugu actor plays a clown. This is a complete mass cinema and ofcourse Rajinikanth is the star of this film.
Fighter (2024)
Siddharth Anand returns with another great action flick after War and Pathaan
Siddharth Anand, take a bow! What a supreme effort in executing a new action genre. It's a great film and the first of its kind in Indian cinema. Terrific attention to detail and the IAS and aerial action is shot spectacularly. How cool is that! This is Gadar for the classes.
Loved the interval which comes after a shocking scene with the future of those characters uncertain. Hrithik, Deepika and Anil Kapoor are great but surprisingly, the film also gives a lot of focus on the supporting characters and avoids making Patty do everything. It is a team effort. The film was developed in collaboraton with IAS which is awesome and since it is a fictional film, I loved the use of jets to their maximum potential. It feels weird to see Ashutosh Rana and Hrithik Roshan together and not playing Colonel Luthra and agent Kabir haha. All the aerial training scenes and combat with Pak jets is thrilling and must be experienced on the biggest screen near you.
All the Squadron Leaders of team Air Dragons under Group captain Rakesh Jai Singh, namely, Shamsher Pathaania, Minnal Rathore, Sartaj, Basheer Khan, Sukhi get their own moments to shine although I would have preferred to not stereotype Sukhi as goofy. The double agent Zarina Begum reveal got me. I was not expecting that lol. Patty being haunted by his failure to protect his fiance during a previous mission adds some depth to his character and he gets a minor redemption when he successfully helps a newbie land her jet. Apart from the aerial action, Patty joining the mission to rescue Sartaj after Pak government sent Basheer's brut.alized body back until the climax is very engaging and filled with well-executed action.
Coming to the M antagonist Azhar Akhtar, I would have preferred if we got a flashback to explain his red eye. The actor was good enough and I fully bought his villainy, his hat-red for India, Indians or kaaphirs until he gets absolutely destroyed by Patty. That climax fight looked completely one-sided. A Pak tero-rist who hates India and gets trig-ered by the words Jai Hind even if uttered by an Indian M. The film does not pull its punches in identifying who the villains are. No soft corners for Pak. Veer Puraskar is not just for martyrs but also for the brave.
Sarinja-ng-Nangam (2024)
Must watch Korean crime drama!
Lee Tang is only doing God's work. He did nothing wrong. What a masterpiece. One of the best shows I have watched recently. I was hooked from start to finish. Literally all the characters are compelling, especially Detective Nam-Gam, Song Chon and Roh Bin. Some of them will make your blood boil but they get what they deserve. You may disagree with me but sorry, they absolutely deserved to die. Go Lee Tang! I loved the writing, twists, acting, cinematography, direction and the transitions are so cool. Loved the entire thing so much. Poor Roh Bin. Sorry, I don't want to spoil too much but it's a must watch Korean crime drama!
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
James Wan should keep making these Aquaman movies
This film is awesome. It's got everything. James Wan should keep making these Aquaman movies because he is great at it. They are so much epic and fun. Enjoyed all of it. The story of the Lost Kingdom and the mythology was really good and I mostly enjoyed the amazing visuals and the creature action. They looked really cool. Using the whales to counter the sonic canon was pretty cool.
As I said, I enjoyed the film so I have got no issue with the story or the writing. Enjoyed the action and humor. Jason Momoa is having fun and his interactions with Orm are funny. Aquaman was really like "GET AWAY FROM MY WIFE" and "GET AWAY FROM MY SON". Black Manta is a menace. I guess Black Manta is the only recurring villain to get a pay off after the first film. DCEU ended with a bang, not a whimper. I can see people not liking the climate change and global warming aspect due to it being done to death but I didn't mind it and loved how it tied with the history of the Lost Kingdom. James Wan does not compromise on the visuals, action and the VFX. He showed some Indians reacting to Aquaman's message of unity for the planet's health lol. I'd say it's a pretty good superhero film with a good message.
I wish we got the entire Justice League in the end at the United Nations and along with Atlantis, it was the first acknowledgement of the team to the world. Instead we get Orm eating a cockroach burger which was hilarious.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
One of the most immersive theatrical experiences ever
Everything you've read about Dune: Part 2 is true. Certainly one of the most immersive theatrical experiences. It's visually rich, technically brilliant, well-written, passionately well-made and will obviously go down in history as one of the best sci-fi/fantasy epics with great performances and awesome world-building. It's a visual feast for sci-fi enthusiasts like me. I don't know how closely it adapts the novel but how can anyone call Paul a hero for his "Jihad" being responsible for deaths of billions across the universe and eradication of different religions including Fremen's just to get his revenge? While he was well-intentioned in the beginning, his transformation post drinking worm poison was surprising but that's what power and religious fana-ticism does to people. Apparently that's what Jihadis have done throughout history since the inception of the desert cu-lt. Pretty smart that Dune replaces real-world men-tal il-lness, delusions of grandeur and hal-lucina-tions of a certain prophet with worm poison hahah. Poor Stilgar. I want to see what Chani does next and more details and history of the sisterhood Bene Gesserit, what exactly is the plan of Paul's mother as well as the mysterious role of Paul's sister. Nothing can convince me women in burkhas or nikaabs can have that much power lol.
