The invitees are: Constance, Francois' first wife, whose love and integrity also stood in the way of his schemes; Vera Volpone, his second wife, from whom he is seeking a divorce, and who, with the aid of her lover, is blackmailing Ffancois; Maggy, his mistress who aids him in his illegal transactions; and Cecile, his fiancée, who is pregnant by another man. The women arrive, tension overwhelms them and the host, three of the women depart...and Francois is alone with his intended victim. Despite a misleading Review/Comment on this site-page, the keyword is "intended."
- Villa Borghese, Rome's biggest urban park, is the place where everyday laughs and dramas are consumed.
- Ugo, Raimondo and Marcella, are a trio of unsuccessful actors who specialize in crime shorts which are never seen. While they are rehearsing a proposed short in front of a producer in a boarding-house bedroom, they are seen through the window by Arturo, who takes Ugo and Raimondo as real killers and Marcella as their victim. Arturo is married to a faithless, two-timing woman, Annalisa, whom he would like very much to dispose of, and he manages to contact Ugo and Raimondo through a newspaper ad and promises them a large sum of money if they will carry out the job for him. Neither man would hurt a fly, but they need the money so badly, they pretend to accept the job. They work out an elaborate plan that will convince Arturo his wife is dead and he will pay them. But neither of them knows that Arturo's wife also has plans to get rid of him and, together with her lover, she too has a plan and intends to use it, while using Ugo as the fall-guy.
- Women in a French internment camp conceal downed British airmen from German soldiers, and try to help them escape. Produced by Edward Black. Written and directed by Frank Launder.
- Detective Marco is assigned to investigate a murder that has occurred at an exclusive boarding school for adolescent girls. The victim is a popular, wealthy girl found strangled in her bed. The school director tells Marco she expects him to find the killer outside of the school, and she bristles at his insistent interrogations of the school staff and the students. Marco learns that two sadistic games were played the night of the murder and that the victim had been tied up. There are a number of suspects, including a teacher with an unnatural affection for one of the girls; a suspicious Spanish gentleman at the town-inn, and some of the pupils themselves. The dead girl's best friend gives the detective the victim's letters and some films. At a showing of the films, there is a sequence where an elderly, mild-mannered teacher is shown kissing with the disreputable town photographer.

Paul is quickly led to play two dangerous games simultaneously seducing the wife of his colleague, and tracking with him Le Fondu, who himself does not remain inactive...
