- "A canon for Mary of Hungary" concerns one of the masterpieces of the Royal Library's collection: Benedictus Appenzeller's canon Sancta Maria succurre miseris, which was printed on a linen tablecloth in 1548 as a gift to Mary of Hungary. Professor at Utrecht University Eric Jas and the young ensemble Cacophony. delve deeper into Appenzeller's polyphonic composition in a brand new documentary-concert. The historical context of this exceptional source and the music it contains are unraveled step by step, while the beautiful canon is brought back to life in its two possible elaborations.
- In 2021 we commemorated 500 years since the death of the Franco-Flemish composer Josquin des Prez. On the occasion of this anniversary, the Alamire Foundation launched the project MISSE JOSQUIN in cooperation with AMUZ and KBR, a series of documentary-concerts on the twelve masses that can be attributed with certainty to the composer. In this twelve-part series we talk to nineteen experts from all over the world, including musicologists and performers, by way of introduction to newly made recordings of each polyphonic mass. Providing some ten hours of documentary material, we take an intimate look at the life and music of Josquin des Prez.
- The famous dance manuscript is one of the flagships of the Royal Library of Belgium's collections and is considered one of the highlights of Habsburg-Burgundian culture for both its content and its presentation. The manuscript is an important source for the music and choreography of the 'basse danse', one of the central types of courtly dance from the period around 1500. However, what makes this source a truly extraordinary piece of heritage is the exceptional black parchment on which the text and notes were notated with brilliant gold and silver ink.
