Logan is everything you hoped for and more: pure gore, a fulfilling story which provides hope for the future, and a fitting send-off for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
The R rating provides the film with that extra vicious push, with some extreme action that you'll feel hurt, not to mention a few funny moments along the way. The action and surprising moments will leave you I'm sure, much like me, with your mouth unable to close in pure awe. The action is extreme - you'll feel it. And the ending, without mentioning spoilers - it left the entire cinema in a collectively subdued silence. In total disbelief, and shock, at what they had just witnessed unfold.
The definitive end of a chapter which should have setup the next with X23 at the forefront. A phenomenal, sacrificial send-off in a bid to save mutant kind. Shame the studio didn't get the message. - DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartIan McKellenHugh JackmanThe X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.8.5

Wise beyond its source material, the original 'Spiderman' makes you feel everything it would mean for a kid to become a superhero. An ingredient that's somewhat lost despite all the MCUs brilliance. With a kiss scene that will live forever and a heart-breaking philosophy driving its titular hero throughout, you can overlook the old-school CGI for its strong storytelling direction.
A great film teaches you something you didn't know about yourself or inspires you to do something great. This film taught me as a young kid that pain is a tool that often forges greatness. Not many films can say that.
PR 8.4 | HP 142 | HR 8.4 | OV 4 | FV 2007 | LV 2021 - DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstAlfred MolinaPeter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a former brilliant scientist named Otto Octavius.7.9
Peter Parker has an identity crisis. One that can only be solved by facing all his responsibilities and deciding not to hide anymore. It's sink or swim, and by the end, Peter is diving in.
A strong sequel incorporating a real conundrum of responsibility, proving that life as a superhero isn't straight forward when you still have real world problems to contend with.
Doc Oc is tragically underutilised over the course of the movie - spending a bit more time to explore his character could've really showcased him further as an understandable villain - particularly given how rashly out of character some of his actions were (influenced by his AI arms). That said, he still gives a memorable performance - if his lack of plot is overshadowed by Peter's struggle to find balance. - DirectorGavin HoodStarsHugh JackmanLiev SchreiberRyan ReynoldsThe early years of James Logan, featuring his rivalry with his brother Victor Creed, his service in the special forces team Weapon X, and his experimentation into the metal-lined mutant Wolverine.7.9

Featuring surely the darkest moment in Spidey history, 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' is an unfairly bashed sequel that in retrospect is actually really awesome!
The visuals, colours, slow-motion shots and music are fantastic - all really pulling you into the fun of seeing a comic book character on the big screen, without at any point subtracting from the tension or stakes. In particular, the continuous sadistic tease on Gwen's fate made the moment when it happened all the more emotionally resonant. The music and visuals when Electro loses it in Times Square, much like the climax at the power plant are fantastic - both real high points for the film.
Electro's development is solid too - you can really follow his transition to become a villain. Always overlooked by society - being able to finally have power, is a powerful motivation. "I'm gonna kill the light so everybody knows how it feels to live in my world; a world without power" is one of the best lines in the movie, and gives his villainy strong rationale. The way Webb showed the effect no lights or electricity would have on the city in such a short space of time was also really well structured to deliver nail-biting stakes. The direction with the Osborn's, though committed, never really clicked - it just felt implausible and underdeveloped in comparison to Electro's layered story, which I think would've been plenty for this film (if they avoided the original trilogy cappers' mistake of sacrificing depth for scope).
Happily, this sequel corrects its introductory mistake of not delving further into the science by making it core to the movie - it enjoys playing with the fun of it (MAGNETS am I right?!). The scenes with Parker blowing things up were really great. Where this movie goes strongest though is in its development of Gwen and Peter's relationship - you can actually see that spark between them in their scenes - the dialogue feels so genuine.
Another strong point is where the film delves further into the mysterious backstory of Peter's parents; giving us breadcrumbs that make the overarching (original) trilogy plans all the more enticing. Giving grounds as to why Peter of all people was the chosen one for his power was great. Sadly, '2' comes to a close with the tease of a sinister six we never got to see, led by a shadowy figure who is never explored. Maybe with NWH there's renewed hope for Garfield's brilliant (and finally now, respected) take on Parker, we'll just have to wait and see... - DirectorBrett RatnerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanHalle BerryThe human government develops a cure for mutations, and Jean Grey becomes a darker uncontrollable persona called the Phoenix who allies with Magneto, causing escalation into an all-out battle for the X-Men.7.6
A relentless, if unrepresentative, tour de force of the superhero genre. Most avid X-Men comic readers probably won't like how this film came to life, but that should not take away from the power of the finale to the original trilogy. - DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanHalle BerryWhen anti-mutant Colonel William Stryker kidnaps Professor X and attacks his school, the X-Men must ally with their archenemy Magneto to stop him.7.5

Not as good as the original, but a solid enough sequel nonetheless. You'll be quite happy spending another few hours in Deadpool's world full of fourth-wall breaks and gory hilarity. - DirectorJames MangoldStarsHugh JackmanWill Yun LeeTao OkamotoWolverine comes to Japan to meet an old friend whose life he saved years ago, and gets embroiled in a conspiracy involving yakuza and mutants.7.5

- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneRhys IfansAfter Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.7.3
With a glimpse of his parents backstory, an understandable yet underdeveloped villain and
a strong Spidey performance from Andrew Garfield, 'Amazing Spidey' is much better now in retrospect that it can be viewed as a multiverse story - not a reboot.
The scientific focus in this incarnation of Parker is really enticing - particularly with its perspective of the spider DNA taking over his own - that learning over fear is the solution to his problem. It was also a really funny way to show the mess you'd create first discovering you have superpowers.
It's like a mystery thriller at points, really strong in terms of story and tone - it just needed to dive a little more courageously into the unknown (more of the science would've been awesome) to be truly great.

But the being takes a liking to Earth and decides to protect it.7.1
A probable cult classic. Tom Hardy goes full gun-ho for his performance, but other than that, you can see why the critics hated it - its tone is all over the place! At points its the funniest film you've seen and moments later its abruptly serious. - DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstTopher GraceA strange black entity from another world bonds with Peter Parker and causes inner turmoil as he contends with new villains, temptations, and revenge.7.0

Fun and carefree. It feels like an old Spider-Man film at times. It has a good story but takes a little too long to develop its characters in comparison to how much time it actually spends with Carnage. - DirectorBryan SingerStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1980s, the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive by bringing destruction to the world.6.6

Showing glimpses of what it could have achieved if not for a turbulent post production, 'The New Mutants' presents Marvel's first endeavour into horror which is more potential than success. - DirectorSimon KinbergStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceJean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix, causing the X-Men to have to decide if her life is worth more than all of humanity.5.1
A horribly disappointing sequel. Presented with the impossible job: to wrap up a franchise of ten years - without entering production with that intention - was always going to harbour shocking results. Dull stunts and action sequences, paired with awful character development and a forgettable villain result in what is easily the worst film in the franchise. As a finale, it failed miserably, which is a shame considering it could have been a powerful individual entry, if it was constructed as such. - DirectorStephen NorringtonStarsWesley SnipesStephen DorffKris KristoffersonA half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.TBD
