- DirectorBryan SingerStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1980s, the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive by bringing destruction to the world.I liked this ... but I'm thinking I missed one of the earlier ones? Not sure about "Sansa" as Jean ;)
- DirectorChris WeitzStarsNicole KidmanDaniel CraigDakota Blue RichardsIn a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization. For the most part, I liked the movie, lots of big names ... but the end? It didn't really wrap up anything. It was like a setup for a sequel or series (of which there isn't movie wise- I guess I can turn to the books if I really want to follow up).
- DirectorD.J. CarusoStarsAlex PettyferTimothy OlyphantDianna AgronAliens and their Guardians are hiding on Earth from intergalactic bounty hunters. They can only be killed in numerical order, and Number Four is next on the list. This is his story.I'd read the book recently ... I think I liked the movie better than the book. Thought they did a good job, although I missed Henri having a french accent (in the audiobook).
- DirectorJ.A. BayonaStarsLewis MacDougallSigourney WeaverFelicity JonesConor, a twelve-year-old boy, encounters an ancient tree monster who proceeds to help him cope with his mother's terminal illness and being bullied in school.Definitely different ... not sure I really liked it, but I did shed some tears.
- DirectorJames MangoldStarsHugh JackmanPatrick StewartDafne KeenIn a future where mutants are nearly extinct, an elderly and weary Logan leads a quiet life. But when Laura, a mutant child pursued by scientists, comes to him for help, he must get her to safety.Good workout movie ... lots of action and adrenaline ... and profanity.
- DirectorElizabeth BanksStarsAnna KendrickRebel WilsonHailee SteinfeldAfter a humiliating command performance at The Kennedy Center, the Barden Bellas enter an international competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status and right to perform.Liked it, not as good as the first one. Some super silly parts, but liked the singing.
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsChanning TatumMila KunisEddie RedmayneA young woman discovers her destiny as an heiress of intergalactic nobility and must fight to protect the inhabitants of Earth from an ancient and destructive industry.Just ... bad. Reminded me of the kid's Power Ranger movies.
- DirectorJohn WellsStarsBradley CooperSienna MillerDaniel BrühlAdam Jones is a chef who destroyed his career with drugs and diva behavior. He cleans up and returns to London, determined to redeem himself by spearheading a top restaurant that can gain three Michelin stars.SO not my world (fancy food) but I liked the movie. Lots of proFanity.
- DirectorTom FordStarsAmy AdamsJake GyllenhaalMichael ShannonA wealthy art gallery owner is haunted by her ex-husband's novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a symbolic revenge tale.Didn't like it at all ...
- DirectorMark WatersStarsZoey DeutchLucy FryDanila KozlovskiyRose Hathaway is a Dhampir, half human-half vampire, a guardian of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discreetly within our world. Her calling is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi.... that was pretty bad. I really liked the book series though.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsLily JamesCate BlanchettRichard MaddenWhen her father unexpectedly dies, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming stepsisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger.I'm not really a fan of re-tellings/remakes ... when this was out in theaters I had no interest at all. But I liked it. Still love "Slipper and the Rose" though. Made me want to re-watch that.
- DirectorRobert SchwentkeStarsShailene WoodleyTheo JamesJeff DanielsAfter the earth-shattering revelations of Insurgent, Tris must escape with Four beyond the wall that encircles Chicago, to finally discover the shocking truth of the world around them.I really can't remember the book at all ... other than Tris died in the end. Not here. Wasn't very drawn into the movies though.
- DirectorDavid PastorÀlex PastorStarsChris PinePiper PeraboLou Taylor PucciAs a lethal virus spreads globally, four friends seek a reputed plague-free haven. But while avoiding the infected, the travelers turn on one another.Just okay ... nothing redemptive, nothing new from any other "virus" show
- DirectorCraig ZobelStarsChiwetel EjioforChris PineMargot RobbieIn the wake of a disaster that wipes out most of civilization, two men and a young woman find themselves in an emotionally charged love triangle as the last known survivors.I'd read the book long ago ... remembered enough to know that beyond the basic setting, this sure switched things up! I remember not being sold on the book ending, but the movie? Oy ... hated the ending.
- DirectorDavid FrankelStarsWill SmithEdward NortonKate WinsletRetreating from life after a tragedy, a man questions the universe by writing to Love, Time, and Death. Receiving unexpected answers, he begins to see how these things interlock and how even loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.I really liked it
- DirectorDavid YatesStarsEddie RedmayneKatherine WaterstonAlison SudolIn 1926, magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York during his worldwide tour to research and rescue magical creatures as something mysterious leaves trails of destruction in the city, threatening to expose the wizarding world.I wasn't sure I'd like this. While I liked the books, I hadn't been a fan of the Harry Potter movies. With this being that same world ... but I decided to give it a try and quite liked it.
- DirectorPaul GreengrassStarsMatt DamonTommy Lee JonesAlicia VikanderThe CIA's most dangerous former operative is drawn out of hiding to uncover more explosive truths about his past.I loved the original movie and liked the sequels, and I enjoyed this one. A good "workout" watch, as there was lots of running and fighting to get the adrenaline up.
- DirectorPhillip NoyceStarsBrenton ThwaitesJeff BridgesMeryl StreepIn a seemingly perfect community without war, pain, suffering, differences or choices, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man, the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world.I'd really liked the book (the whole quartet). I remember seeing the previews for this movie and thinking "WHAT??" ... this actually wasn't as bad as I thought, at least for the first 3/4, the last 1/4 shifted greatly from the book (the book had just ended with Jonas and Gabe's escape, leaving the reader not really sure what happened ... until the further books touch on them again). But overall, not one I'd recommend.
- DirectorShana FesteStarsGarrett HedlundGwyneth PaltrowLeighton MeesterA rising country-music songwriter works with a fallen star to work their way to fame, causing romantic complications along the way.I had enjoyed the series "Nashville" and this definitely has some similarities. I liked the music. Not sure how I felt about the ending.
- DirectorRobert SchwentkeStarsShailene WoodleyAnsel ElgortTheo JamesBeatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart with the help from others on her side.I'd read the series, saw the first movie ages ago ... not very impressed by the movie, but I'll probably watch the next one anyway.
- DirectorR.J. CutlerStarsChloë Grace MoretzMireille EnosJamie BlackleyLife changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined. The choice is hers if she can go on.I'd read the book, and while not remembering it completely, thought this stayed pretty true to it. Liked the movie.
- DirectorBurr SteersStarsLily JamesSam RileyJack HustonFive sisters in 19th century England must cope with the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from a growing population of zombies.I loved it!
- DirectorRob BurnettStarsCraig RobertsPaul RuddSelena GomezA man suffering a family loss enrolls in a class about care-giving that changes his perspective on life. The boys watched this while on a trip ... I figured I'd give it a try. I liked it. Lots of proFanity. 8/2017
- DirectorRon ClementsJohn MuskerDon HallStarsAuli'i CravalhoDwayne JohnsonRachel HouseIn ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the demigod Maui reaches Moana's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out Maui to set things right.I finally (08/2017) got around to watching this. With five boys, it just wasn't one that garnered much interest at our house. I thought it was quite cute.
- DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsFelicity JonesDiego LunaAlan TudykIn a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction. So the last movie I saw in theaters was "The Force Awakens" back in 2015. More just going with the family than a big desire to see it. Although my family are fans ... I've just never gotten into Star Wars. I finally got around to watching this and ... ehh. Sorry, just not a fan. In trying to keep continuity, the music is all the same, the alien creatures are all the same. I could have used a refresher as to right where this fit into the storyline (I mean, I have the basic idea). At least I've seen it now, right? July 2017
