Top 250 #1 - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.9.4
Featuring what can surely be considered the greatest performance of all time from Heath Ledger, 'The Dark Knight' reassessed the potential of what superhero cinema could be, bringing in a new wave of cinematic possibility with dark, grounded storytelling. Christopher Nolan masterfully demonstrates how anarchy escalates when chaos is introduced to a society, creating a truly terrifying adversary for Batman in the Joker.

With expansive and mind-blowing concepts you would expect from a Nolan production, 'Tenet's' blend between spy movie espionage and high concept time 'inversion' makes for the coolest blockbuster in recent memory. Repeat viewing required.
Top 250 #130 - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsAl PacinoRobin WilliamsHilary SwankWill Dormer, a police detective, is sent to investigate a teenage girl's murder to a small fishing town where he accidentally shoots his co-detective and is afflicted by insomnia brought by the guilt.7.6
Masterful storytelling and against the grain acting which will shock viewers - 'Insomnia' is a slow burn psychological thriller which establishes the versatility of Williams. Though it isn't quite what you would expect from Nolan given his time-meddling masterpieces, it is unfairly looked down upon within Nolan's repertoire. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsJeremy TheobaldAlex HawLucy RussellA young writer who follows strangers for material meets a thief who takes him under his wing.7.6
An arthouse film which provides the building blocks of the director Nolan would become. Full of interesting, grounded, yet surreal characters, Nolan explores the trauma of being setup for a crime you didn't commit through taking advantage of ones insecurities - in typically time jumping, recontextualising the whole story by the end fashion. I love realising you've been watching a different movie than the director all along - and Nolan is the master of it. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsFionn WhiteheadBarry KeoghanMark RylanceAllied soldiers from Belgium, the British Commonwealth and Empire, and France are surrounded by the German Army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.7.6
Shockingly real and told in a multiple-timeline fashion only Nolan could, 'Dunkirk' feels more like a depiction of how the day unfolded as opposed to the kind of film you're used to with a three act trajectory. Phenomenally put together and indistinguishable from reality - while impressive - it feels less like a film and more like a documentary on the realities of war.
Don't get me wrong, it shows the prowess and versatility of Nolan, cementing him (as if he wasn't already) as one cinemas top filmmakers. And it is a masterpiece in an artistic sense...but not the war epic it should've bheen. It is the kind of film built to win awards which results in an evident lack of tension despite pure down to earth terror, as it instead focuses on creating impressive, 'real' aesthetics.
Most disappointingly though, Nolan's usual trademark of hopping around various timeline's wound up more confusing than not as the film progressed, though everything did become clear eventually - it's usage just felt muddled and unnecessary.
