A perplexing film - while no doubt ambitious, essential viewing, '2001' may be an experience which will not resonate with every viewer to its awe-inspiring intent.
That said, it is an experience you should fully immerse yourself in, on a big screen if possible, as it is no doubt a showcase of film as an art form. It is a cinematic experience to be respected; and should be considered coursework for any enthusiast.
With long periods of ominous silences juxtaposed with overpowering classical music, its stylistic inputs are hard to ignore and will split viewers. What cannot be understated or divisive though is its remarkable visual achievements and production design which still stand up today.

I wanted to love it - but its plot never resonated as I expected it would for a film touted as the greatest ever. I wish I read about it before hand - then I could have perhaps enjoyed and celebrated it more for its technical advancements that have influenced cinema in the years after, but its central mystery never intrigued me nor did its direction.
I'll watch it again to appreciate its influential camera work - but a film should be more than its craft, and for me, this adored piece of filmmaking is not. Its subtle underlying theme that this man yearned for affection and love of which his dying words reflect, make for a powerful statement about the simplicity of man, but not an entertaining film. - DirectorWolfgang ReithermanStarsPhil HarrisSebastian CabotLouis PrimaBagheera the Panther and Baloo the Bear have a difficult time trying to convince a boy to leave the jungle for human civilization.8.0

A classic story in its purest form - it may only be 30 minutes long, but it tells the tale better than any adaptation.
