Russell Crowe is no stranger to comic book/superhero movies, having previously appeared in Man of Steel and Thor: Love and Thunder. He also has a role in Sony Pictures' upcoming Kraven the Hunter, and it seems the Academy Award-winner doesn't have much time for other actors who sign on for those type of films and then complain that they didn't reach a certain standard.
While chatting to GQ, Crowe was asked about his experience making superhero projects, specifically in light of Madame Web star Dakota Johnson saying she felt like the movie was art “made by a committee” in a recent interview.
"You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms," said the actress. "My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they’re not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullsh*t. Even if...

Russell Crowe Gets Candid on Joining Superhero Movies: "These Are Jobs" - Main Image
Russell Crowe recently opened up about his involvement in superhero movies and the actors who have complained about their experience doing the projects.
The Oscar winner has become a staple in the superhero genre thanks to starring in DC's Man of Steel, Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder, and Sony's upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Kraven the Hunter.
For the past few years, there have been several conversations about the current state of superhero movies due to the underwhelming box office performances and the divisive reception from critics on some of the releases across all franchises.
Some actors have also opened up about the difficulties of being involved in a superhero movie due to the complexities of the production and the general perception regarding its value as an art form.

In the era of streaming wars and AI challenges, very little can surprise the audience when the dystopian vision of humanity being overtaken by artificial intelligence is already prevalent in the atmosphere. In such a dark world, The Boys shines more brilliantly than ever due to its bloody, gore-filled, gross, and obnoxiously salacious content – because such a creation could only be born from the unbridled morbid imaginations of a human mind.
The Boys [Credit: Prime Video]However, every brilliant creation has a time of its own – too early for the public eye, and it’s censored into the darkest pits of Hollywood; too late and it becomes redundant for the moviegoing audience. The Boys, on the other hand, arrived just in time as Superhero fatigue was rampant in the industry and a satirical critique of that particular genre worked like a perfect salve for the masses.

Robert Downey Jr. had a new lease on life when he was cast as Tony Stark in the MCU. Beginning his career with Iron Man, the actor bounced back from being an industry pariah to a world-renowned star. Downey Jr. went on to become the face of the MCU, starring in team-up films such as The Avengers, as well as the Iron Man trilogy.
While Marvel gave him a new beginning, being cast by the studio reportedly helped many other actors, including Paul Bettany. Bettany first joined the MCU as the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. and then appeared as Vision. The actor reportedly had a tough time as a teen and was busking in the streets before he was kicked out of his apartment in London.

Russell Crowe is acknowledging some of his missteps, and defending the superhero movie process in the wake of Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web comments.
The 60-year-old actor, who next appears in Sony’s latest Spider-Man Universe film Kraven the Hunter, gave a candid interview to GQ in which he seemed to address past reports of bad behavior.
“I’m in awe of people these days who say, ‘I have no regrets,'” Crowe said. “Really? Not one single thing you ever did. Right? You’re so fucking perfect. I’ve got a shit ton of regrets. An angry word, an overreaction, a missed opportunity for friendship — lots of things like that. But all of those things are in perspective, because I’ve done lots of really cool shit too. While there are directors with strong opinions on comic book films, often targeting the face of it all, Marvel Studios, there is no shortage of impressive actors who have starred in these superhero films. You have actors like Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Josh Brolin, Michael B. Jordan, Scarlett Johansson and more who have proven their abilities in more dramatic fares. There are even some older iconic actors that have dabbled in the genre, like Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Costner and Michelle Pfeiffer. And let’s not forget names like Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson starring in the ones that legitimized the genre.
Russell Crowe is also someone who lent his talents to multiple superhero films. He was Jor-El in Man of Steel, Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder and he will be seen in the upcoming Spider-Man Sonyverse film Kraven The Hunter as Kraven’s bad dad.

Russell Crowe has no problem calling out the hypocrisy of actors dissing their own superhero films.
The new trend as of late was most recently exemplified by Dakota Johnson’s comments on “Madame Web” after the Sony-produced film flopped at the box office. Johnson told Bustle that she understood why the film was “ripped to shreds” by critics, citing that “art does not do well when it’s made by committee.”
Crowe, when asked about how his own experience in a slew of superhero films compared to Johnson’s, told GQ UK that of course tentpole franchise films like “Thor: Love and Thunder” are made by a “gigantic machine” like Johnson complained about.
“I don’t want to make any comments to what anybody else might have said or what their experience is, but…you’re bringing out the impish quality of my humor,” Crowe said. “You’re telling...

Russell Crowe is no stranger to comic book movies. He played Superman’s biological father Jor-El in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Zeus in “Thor: Love and Thunder” and soon will appear as Kraven’s estranged father in Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter.” So when British GQ recently asked the Oscar winner about his experience making superhero movies in light of Dakota Johnson saying “Madame Web” felt like art “made by a committee,” he playfully laughed off the idea that making such films is in any way deep.
“I don’t want to make any comments to what anybody else might have said or what their experience is, but… you’re bringing out the impish quality of my humor. [Laughs.] You’re telling me you signed up for a Marvel movie, and some fucking universe for cartoon characters… and you didn’t get enough pathos?...

Russell Crowe has been chatting about Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2, and has admitted he has a concern or two about the film.
Spoilers for Gladiator lie ahead.
Currently undergoing additional photography work in the UK is this winter’s belated sequel to Gladiator, which we’re cunning calling Gladiator 2. Whether it’ll end up being called Gladiator 2 is still unclear, but let’s go with it.
It’s 24 years since the original film, which won Russell Crowe an Academy Award for Best Actor, and there’s been no shortage of talk since of a possible follow-up. Yet for, well, reasons, the follow-up hasn’t happened. It’s only now that Ridley Scott is back on set, shooting a new movie, this time with with Paul Mescal donning the armour instead of Russell Crowe.

Russell Crowe is sharing his thoughts on the Gladiator sequel, which will drop in theaters later this year.
The actor starred in the 2000 Ridley Scott film but is not part of the sequel as his character, the Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius, died. Crowe doesn’t seem particularly thrilled that the film is getting a sequel 24 years later.
“I’m slightly uncomfortable with the fact they’re making another one — because, of course, I’m dead and I have no say in what gets done,” Crowe said on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast. “But a couple of the things I’ve heard I’m like — no, no, no, that’s not in the moral journey of that particular character. But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six foot under. So we’ll see what that is like.”

“Gladiator” changed Russell Crowe’s life. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Maximus in Ridley Scott’s Roman Empire epic and spent a few years as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The film means a lot to him personally. So he’s having some mixed feelings about “Gladiator II,” Scott’s upcoming sequel starring Denzel Washington and Paul Mescal as Maximus’ son, Lucius.
Spoiler alert for a 24-year-old movie: Maximus dies at the end of “Gladiator.” So Crowe is not in “Gladiator II,” and he’s not involved with the production. Ridley Scott wanted to tell the story of “Gladiator 2” with as many cameras as possible, according to actor Joseph Quinn.
The “Stranger Things” star told GQ that Scott would film with eight cameras at once for even just a single scene. Scott would then piece together the desired shots.
“I was like, ‘Eight cameras?’ and he’s like ‘You gotta know where to fucking put ’em,'” Quinn said. “Clearly he does. Watching that puzzle, watching him harness all those pieces and put them together was fascinating, truly.”

There are many examples of sequels that proceed without the original film’s star. Gladiator II will obviously not be able to feature Maximus Decimus Meridius after his arc ended in the first film. However, that will not stop attention being paid to Russell Crowe for the upcoming sequel despite the fact that he has no involvement. Last year, Crowe joked that he should be reimbursed for all the Gladiator II questions he’s fielded, “They should be f*cking paying me for the amount of questions I get asked about the f*cking film that I am not even in,” adding, “in that world, I’m dead, six feet under. And that’s that.” However, he also thinks the movie is bound to be extraordinary. “If Ridley has decided to do a second part … he will have really strong reasons…I couldn’t think of that movie being less than absolutely spectacular.

While the conservative genre veterans claim the golden era of Western movies had gone with Clint Eastwood’s classic flicks of the 60s and 70s, we completely disagree with it.
There are several modern genre’s gems, starting from Javier Bardem’s No Country for Old Men and Russell Crowe’s 3:10 to Yuma (both 2007) to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Django Unchained (2012). They all present brand new, yet brutal Western characters.
These include Jeff Bridges’ protagonist in the 2010 movie that can be considered an exceptional movie in every aspect. It both pays homage to the genre’s classics and brings new vision to it.
The film’s plot follows a feisty teenage girl who is trying to find those who are guilty of murdering her father, that’s why she hires a Deputy U.S. Marshal (played by Bridges) to help her. The duo is later joined by a Texas Ranger...

Russell Crowe is "slightly uncomfortable" that 'Gladiator 2' is being made. The 60-year-old star played Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius in Sir Ridley Scott's original historical epic and admits that it is disconcerting to see the story revisited with Paul Mescal in the lead role.Speaking on the Kyle Meredith With... podcast, Russell said: "I'm slightly uncomfortable with the fact they're making another one – because, of course, I'm dead and I have no say in what gets done. "But a couple of things I've heard I'm like, 'No, no, no, that's not in the moral journey of that particular character.' But I can't say anything, it's not my place, I'm six foot under. So we'll see what that is like."Crowe won the Best Actor Oscar for his work on 'Gladiator' and admits that seeing the sequel – which is set to be released later...

Russell Crowe has admitted that he’s “slightly uncomfortable” with the idea of upcoming sequel to Gladiator that’s currently in production.
Crowe famously starred in the 2000 historic epic, winning an Academy Award for his performance as the Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius. Now some 24 years later, director Ridley Scott is putting the finishing touches on a sequel film centered around the character of Lucius, the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus who was saved by Crowe’s Maximus in the original movie.
As Crowe’s character dies at the end of Gladiator, he will not appear in the upcoming Gladiator 2. He nonetheless had some a few thoughts on the sequel in a recent interview on Kyle Meredith With…

Zack Snyder’s 300 told a fictionalized version of the Battle of Thermopylae and saw Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas leading 300 Spartans into battle against an army of about 300,000 soldiers. The film is based on the namesake limited comic book series created by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. 300 had its own ups and downs while it received mixed reviews from critics and a few awards, it also was also criticized for its historical inaccuracies.

Gerard Butler played the hell out of his character but there was a time when he almost did not get the role. A Warner Bros. executive was unsure about the actor’s casting as King Leonidas but agreed to give him the job on one strange condition – Gerard Butler had to stop smoking.

Zack Snyder's 2006 film "300," based on the comic book by Frank Miller, tells a hyper-stylized and not-the-least-bit-historically-accurate version of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) wherein 300 Spartan soldiers managed to fend off anywhere from 120,000 to 300,000 soldiers of the Persian Empire for three full days. Both Miller's book and Snyder's film present the Spartans as teeth-gashing, testosterone-spitting, Spam-scented beefcake slabs comprised of nothing but pectoral muscles, testicles, and homophobia. They speak in "Join the Marines" recruiting slogans and disparage anything that's not at least 4000% more masculine than a two-ton bag of Tom Jones' chest hair.
Speaking of chest hair, none of the Spartans have any, happy to parade around their cartoonishly cut physiques as if they all possess a severe shirt allergy. Leading the charge is King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), a man who cannot help but add multiple exclamation marks after every sentence he speaks.

The musician’s soaring notes that brought the vast Arrakis sands to life, made viewers immerse themselves even more fervently into Herbert’s world.

Curtis Hanson's crime drama "L.A. Confidential," based on the novel by James Ellroy, takes place in 1953 right after real-life crime boss Mickey Cohen had been arrested, creating a power vacuum in L.A.'s underworld. A mysterious and brutal massacre at a local diner -- a massacre that took the lives of several allegedly corrupt cops -- reveals a series of equally mysterious plots throughout the city, each of them being individually investigated by one of three cops. There is Edmund Exley (Guy Pearce), the by-the-book Boy Scout no one likes. There is Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey), the celebrity cop who offer consultations to the hottest cop show on TV. Mattel and Universal are joining forces to bring Monster High to the movies: more on the film project here.
We’ve known for some time now that Mattel has a huge number of screen projects, based on its many toy lines, that are in various states of development. Whether it’s the oddly-appealing Daniel Kaluuya-starring take on Barney, Vin Diesel being attached to Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, JJ Abrams making Hot Wheels or Amazon MGM’s Masters Of The Universe, the toy company has lots of potential projects in the pipeline.
All of that goes without mentioning the possibility of another Barbie film, whether that’s with or without the directorial talents of Greta Gerwig, we’d imagine.
However, it’s another line of dolls that have now joined the party with the announcement that Mattel has joined forces with Universal to produce Monster High, a film based...

These days Netflix’s global top is blown by a new sci-fi that turned out to be a failure. Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas, following an analyst on her space mission together with the onboard AI, received a shameful 19% of critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily, it has rekindled people’s interest in robot movies, as one of them is now recalled by Netflix audience. It has recently gained such a strong viewership that it is now holding the forth place in the platform’s chart, even though it was released 13 years ago.
The film’s plot revolves around Charlie, a boxer who was forced to retire from sports ‘cause the boxing ring was taken over by heavier and more powerful robots. That is why he starts living a routine of collecting scrap metal and making low-end fighters of it.

The details of Scott’s Gladiator sequel have been kept under wraps since it was announced. All that’s known about the feature is that it will star a powerful ensemble cast that includes the likes of Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and others.
But the Gladiator sequel has been in development for more than two decades. Scott and his team agonized over a worthy successor to the original, drafting several possible storylines. In a previous version of the sequel, Scott had Crowe returning and reprising his character Maximus.
“Nick Cave wrote the script, but I had the idea,” Scott said in an interview with ReelBlend.

Martin Scorsese is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in Hollywood, and even at the age of 81 is churning out pieces of art. The filmmaker last helmed the crime-Western Killers of the Flower Moon, and is already gearing up for his next project. He remains one of the few individual voices still making films today.
Scorsese’s statements about cinema and the way superhero films were taking over the medium had drawn a lot of flack from fans. The director’s comparison of Marvel movies to theme parks sparked outrage as well as a popular meme template. However, even he would agree to one scene from Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel as cinema.

It’s hard for Paul Bettany to play a lunkhead. With his dashing good looks and sophisticated air, the British actor practically exudes intelligence in a way that few major film actors of his generation possess. That patrician vibe has been a major plus for the actor in his transition to films, but what has made him such an in-demand star is his attention to character detail.
