In this week’s episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo goes on a joyride with one of the stars of “The Bikeriders.” The film follows the members of a Chicago-area biker gang from their innocent inception in the 1960s to their descent into a darker underworld. The Jeff Nichols (“Mud,” “Midnight Special,” “Take Shelter”) film stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Boyd Holbrook, and more.

British actress Jodie Comer, 31, is a rising star. After breaking out as a sociopathic Russian assassin in “Killing Eve” (BBC) and co-starring with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel” (Twentieth Century/Disney), she took home a Best Actress Tony for her bravura one-woman play “Prima Facie.” So it’s no surprise that casting director Francine Maisler suggested her to writer-director Jeff Nichols.
They were looking for faces that might measure up to the Danny Lyons photography book on ’60s Chicago bikers that inspired “The Bikeriders.” They had cast Tom Hardy and Austin Butler for the motorcycle picture. The question was, could Jodie Comer nail a local Chicago accent and stand up to these powerful actors?
Apparently, she can do anything. When she first took on “Prima Facie” on the West End, she had no classical training and had appeared as a teenager in one theater production.

Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders is throwback filmmaking at its finest, so much so that Jodie Comer’s signature accent work essentially serves as one of the film’s primary special effects. The crime drama, which is a mostly fictionalized take on Danny Lyon’s seminal 1968 photojournalistic book of the same name, chronicles the rise and fall of a Chicago outlaw motorcycle club. Framed through a series of interviews with a fictionalized Danny Lyon (Mike Faist), Comer’s character, Kathy, recounts the story of how she became the protective wife of Benny (Austin Butler) and why she went to great lengths to shield him from the club leader’s (Tom Hardy’s Johnny) attempts to have Benny succeed him.

Sony sat out CinemaCon in April this year, but was the first major studio to present at CineEurope in Barcelona today, culminating in a screening of Apple Original Films’ Scarlett Johansson/Channing Tatum-starrer Fly Me to the Moon which Sony is releasing theatrically.
Before the screening, Sony President of International Theatrical Distribution, Steven O’Dell, cautioned, “Good is no longer good enough. We have to deliver greatness to audiences. The onus is on all of us.”
O’Dell was bullish on the future. Sony, whose Columbia Pictures is celebrating its centenary this year, is “committed to the industry,” he said, noting Sony Pictures Entertainment’s recent “bold move” to acquire the Alamo Drafthouse, as well as its 2021 $1.2B acquisition of Crunchyroll. O’Dell continued that the studio is also “positioned to make some big bets on the future of our industry.”

With its cinematic action sequences, quippy leading man, and globe-trotting brand of adventuring, Naughty Dog's Uncharted videogame series always felt ripe for the blockbuster treatment. However, when treasure hunting cheeky chappy Nathan Drake first made the leap to the big screen with Ruben Fleischer's aptly titled Uncharted back in 2022, the Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg starring caper roundly fell flat with critics despite nabbing a cool $407 million worldwide at the box office. But now the one-time heir apparent to Indiana Jones' booby-trapped throne is getting set for another, er, crack of the whip, with confirmation coming today that Uncharted 2 is in the Sony pipeline.

Lunar luck.
After concluding May with a discussion of Lisa Brühlmann’s female coming-of-age tale Blue My Mind (listen) and kicking off June reevaluating the unfairly maligned third act of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine (listen), we’re…..staying in outer space to marvel at the wacky antics of Lubdan the Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) in Brian Trenchard-Smith‘s 1997 sequel Leprechaun 4: In Space!
In the film, the Leprechaun abducts Princess Zarina (Rebekah Carlton), a member of an alien planet’s royalty, in an attempt to wed her and become her home planet’s new ruler. Unfortunately for him, a platoon of well-armed soldiers, led by Master Sergeant “Metal Head” Hooker (Tim Colceri), arrive to foil his plans. Not easily defeated, however, the feisty Leprechaun bursts out of one of the solider’s penises and continues to battle the soldiers while also contending with the warped scientist Dr. Mittenhand (Guy Siner).

Sony Pictures gave the first major studio presentation at the 2024 CineEurope trade show on Monday.
In a short but sweet show in Barcelona — which preceded the screening of Greg Berlanti’s rom-com “Fly Me to the Moon,” starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum — Sony’s president of international distribution Steven O’Dell gave a whistle-stop rundown of the studio’s upcoming titles, revealing an enviable list of filmmakers it’s working with.
Among the films referenced were Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel “28 Years Later,” starring Cillian Murphy, Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Taika Waititi’s “Klara and the Sun,” starring Jenna Ortega; and Sam Mendes’ upcoming films about the four members of the Beatles, which O’Dell said would be “distinct, but interconnected.”
Also mentioned were Jason Reitman’s “SNL 1975,” about the build up to the premiering of “Saturday Night Live,” the sequel to the Tom Holland-starring action-adventure “Uncharted,...

Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World 4” movie is set to make use of locations in Thailand as well as studios in Malta and the U.K.
The Gareth Edwards-directed picture, produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, is expected to star Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise and David Iacono.
The “Jurassic Park” franchise kicked off with the eponymous Spielberg-directed film in 1993 and spawned two more in 1997 and 2001. It also led to the three-film “Jurassic World” franchise from 2015.
With a script by David Koepp, the new movie is touted as “a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island.” The new film has also been labeled as “Jurassic World 4” and “Jurassic City.”
The month-long Thailand unit production was confirmed by the country’s Department of Tourism director general Jaturon Phakdeewanit.

Fans of the 2002 film 28 Days Later and its follow-up 28 Weeks Later have been waiting seventeen years for another entry in the franchise, hoping we’d someday see a movie titled 28 Months Later. We’re not getting that one, but 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are currently working on reviving the franchise, and they’re going to make this revival worth the wait. Not only are we getting a new movie called 28 Years Later, but we’re actually getting a whole trilogy of sequels! Sony has reported that the film is set for a June 20th, 2025 release date. The film began shooting in late May around the Northeast of England. But what else do we know about this 28 Years Later sequel trilogy.

Erin Kellyman, who appeared in Solo and The Green Knight, is the latest addition the cast of Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later.
Filming has already begun on 28 Years Later, a belated sequel to director Danny Boyle’s own series of horror films which began with 28 Days Later in 2002. And, as cameras roll, it’s reported that British actor Erin Kellyman has joined the cast, which already includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell.
It’s currently unknown what role Kellyman will play – but then again, there hasn’t been so much as a logline released for the film as yet. All we currently know is that the screenplay has been co-written by Boyle and Alex Garland (who wrote 28 Days Later) and that Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his role as bicycle courier and viral apocalypse survivor, Jim, last seen in the 2002 original.

After heavy discussions of Gregg Araki’s Mysterious Skin (listen) and Lisa Brühlmann’s Blue My Mind (listen) – with a stop-over to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s Alien (listen) – we’re headed to space with Danny Boyle‘s 2007 collaboration with Alex Garland: Sunshine.
The film features an all-star international cast, including Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, Cliff Curtis and Rose Byrne as scientists/astronauts on a mission to restart a dying sun before the Earth freezes.
Sunshine features all of the usual space movie tropes, including dangerous external repair job, a mysterious Sos beacon, and a disastrous previous mission, but the film’s legacy is an unconventional third act that turns the film into a slasher courtesy of mysterious character Pinbacker (Mark Strong).

Leonardo DiCaprio has been an A-list talk of the town ever since he starred in 1996’s Romeo + Juliet. He has only grown in his craft, morphing from a romance actor to one of the greatest talents to have ever existed in Hollywood. While such attention has always been beneficial for his career, it would seem that there was one instance where he seriously backfired.

Jason Statham And Cillian Murphy: Why Was The Former Chosen In Peaky Blinders? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Almost everyone who watched Peaky Blinders fell in love with Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Thomas Shelby, finding it hard to imagine anyone else in the role. However, did you know that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight initially wanted Jason Statham to play Thomas Shelby instead of Cillian Murphy?
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight met both Cillian Murphy and Jason Statham in Los Angeles to discuss the role of Thomas Shelby. Initially, Knight opted for Jason Statham, explaining to Esquire that one of the reasons was because, physically, Statham commanded the room. In contrast, Murphy, when met in person, did not immediately embody the character of Thomas Shelby. Knight admitted to Esquire that he was initially too short-sighted to see beyond this. Post-apocalyptic stories have always held a special place in the hearts of film enthusiasts. There is just something about seeing what would happen if a zombie apocalypse was somehow going to become a reality. After all, these films can be pretty helpful in giving notes on how to survive. Cillian Murphy’s 28 Days Later is one such post-apocalyptic horror film that received positive reviews from critics.

Released in 2002, 28 Days Later follows the story of Cillian Murphy’s Jim, who gets caught in the middle of an outbreak of a highly contagious and rage-inducing virus that puts society in a vulnerable state. Exclusive: Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Sarah Snook has set her next big project following the conclusion of HBO’s hit series Succession.
Snook will star in and executive produce Peacock’s upcoming suburban thriller series All Her Fault in the lead role of “Marissa.” Megan Gallagher serves as writer, creator and executive producer of the project adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Andrea Mara.
All Her Fault opens on a plausibly terrifying situation that eventually unearths the deep secrets of a community. Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn’t a mother she recognizes. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo. And so begins every parent’s worst nightmare.
Minkie Spiro is set to direct the first episode, among others and executive produce. EPs also include Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame and Joanna Strevens for Carnival Films, Jennifer Gabler Rawlings and Christine A. Sacani, producer Terry Gould and associate producer, Andrea Mara, who wrote the novel All Her Fault. Universal International Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Snook was most recently seen on-stage at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket on The West End in the award-winning play The Picture of Dorian Gray. For her performance, she was awarded an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Play.
Last year, Snook was seen in the final season of the HBO award-winning series Succession. For her portrayal of ‘Shiv Roy’ across the show’s four seasons, she received an Emmy, two Golden Globe Awards and two Critics Choice Awards. She also flexed her voice acting skills in Hulu’s animated series Koala Man. Her TV credits also include the Australian drama series The Beautiful Lie, AMC’s anthology drama series Soulmates, and an episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror.
On the big screen, Sarah co-starred in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs alongside Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet; the science-fiction thriller Predestination alongside Ethan Hawk; and Kornél Mundruczó’s Pieces of a Woman alongside Vanessa Kirby.
Snook is represented by UTA and Omni Artists Ltd.

It’s common knowledge that even the most devoted Star Wars fans carry a twinge of disappointment regarding the franchise’s prequels. Ewan McGregor, who played the iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi, is no exception.

However, the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi series has successfully bridged that gap, reigniting McGregor’s connection with his on-screen persona and his love for the entire saga. This series has instilled in him a renewed belief and faith in the franchise, offering a fresh perspective and rekindling the passion that initially drew him to the galaxy far, far away.

If you have Hulu (or Disney Star in Canada), you might have noticed that Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later is no longer available. Indeed, Disney lost the rights to the independently financed original film, with them now only owning the rights to the Searchlight-financed sequel, 28 Weeks Later. That’s why you can’t find it on streaming sites and why the Blu-ray Disc is out of print. Sony now owns the rights to the film, with it being part of the package they acquired when they bought the rights to finance the upcoming Danny Boyle/ Alex Garland sequel, 28 Years Later. So, presumably, Sony will be reissuing the film in the near future, and there’s a chance that when they do, it’ll look much better than it ever did before. But why?

Like many of you reading this, I have a soft spot for Robert Rodriguez’s Mexico trilogy. The three films centred around a guitar-playing mariachi who becomes a killer after a case of mistaken identity. The three films put Rodriguez on the map as one of the most exciting directors of his generation, and the story of how he turned a $7000 action movie made for Mexican home video into a worldwide smash is legendary (as he documented himself in the classic book “Rebel Without a Crew”).
Now, Rodriguez’s loose trilogy, which consists of El Mariachi, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, are coming to Arrow Video in a special features-laden box set which includes commentaries, new interviews, deleted scenes and more. However, the catch is that of the three films, only Desperado is getting a 4K disc.
Why?

In the derelict, scraggly city in northwest China where Guan Hu’s Black Dog is set, human life has all but disappeared and canines have replaced their masters. The year is 2008, a few weeks before the kick-off to the Beijing Summer Olympics, but the capital feels so distant in time and space that when a mural honoring the event pops up, the paint is so sun-bleached you’d be forgiven for thinking the Games were over by a few decades. Oil was tucked deep under the nearby hills until the reserves dried up and workers left––one of many migration waves that turned this unnamed corner at the edge of the Gobi Desert into an arid ghost town presided by the pets its former residents left behind. Dogs are everywhere you look; from the barren expanses that ring the city down to its maze of abandoned buildings, they roam this...

Actor Ewan McGregor has become synonymous with the role of Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe. McGregor first donned the Jedi robes for the first installment of the prequel trilogy all the way back in 1999 when he was still an up-and-coming actor. Years later, McGregor reflected on being in two minds over accepting what became his most popular role.

During an interview, McGregor spoke about his hesitance to accept the career-defining role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The actor explained why he was unsure about accepting the part but was glad that he ultimately said yes. At the same time, McGregor also discussed his future as Obi-Wan Kenobi after starring in a solo series focusing on the character.

Forget the "Walking Dead" comics or the first "Resident Evil" film; it was "28 Days Later" that made zombies cool again in the 21st century. Easily the best zombie movie that technically isn't a zombie movie, director Danny Boyle's sci-fi horror thriller takes place in a nightmare world where society has collapsed following the outbreak of a lab-born, zombie-esque infection dubbed the "rage virus." Many of the film's leads would go on to become far bigger names after its release, including a baby-faced Cillian Murphy as the poor Joe Schmo (or whatever the British equivalent is of that) who awakens from a coma to find London abandoned and overrun with red-eyed, rampaging infected individuals.

The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the galaxy’s most legendary places. Produced by CBS Studios, it will begin production later this summer.
“It feels like we’ve spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius,” said co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. “To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across-the-board brilliance leading the charge on Starfleet Academy is a gift to all of us and to the enduring legacy of Star Trek.”

Since we first learned of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's plans for 28 Years Later back in January, news on the movie — the first in a proposed sequel trilogy to Brit zombie horror duology 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later — and the franchise's future has come thick and fast. Last month alone, we shared that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have joined 28 Years Later's cast, and that Candyman director Nia DaCosta is in talks to helm the second part of the new trilogy. And now we know at last that newly-minted Oppenheimer Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who was already aboard as an executive producer, will be making a return in front of the camera too.
In an interview with Deadline, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman was asked directly whether Murphy — who starred in Boyle's first film as bike courier-turned-Rage virus survivor Jim — would be back for 28 Years Later.

We got word earlier this year that 28 Days Later director (Danny Boyle) and writer (Alex Garland) are teaming up for a series of sequels to the 2002 horror hit, and following the recent news that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes have signed on to play the lead roles, it's been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will return for 28 Years Later.
There was speculation that Murphy, who won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in Oppenheimer, might be set to reprise the role of Jim from the original movie when he signed on as an executive producer, and Sony has now made it official.
"Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way," Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman told Deadline when asked if Murphy would return. "This is Danny [Boyle] at his best, combined with a very commercial genre,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods Season 14 midseason finale, which is the close of the first part of the NYPD family drama’s final season.
“Father, forgive me for I have sinned,” says New York Police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in church in tonight’s Blue Bloods last midseason finale as he tries to repair a rift with his actual father, the former NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou).
It ain’t the Sunday dinner that defines the well-watched CBS series, but it certainly was a moment of affirmation for perspicacious fans who may be speculating where their show is going to go in its final episodes after a long long run. Put another way, Blue Bloods may be ending later this year, but you’d never know it from the Season 14 midseason finale that aired tonight.

More information is coming in about the upcoming 28 Days Later sequel, 28 Years Later, the start of a new trilogy of sequels from Sony. Previously, we reported that 28 Days Later star and Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy would return as an executive producer role for the upcoming movie currently slated for a June 2025 release, but a new report suggests Murphy will reprise his original role as the bike courier Jim.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman revealed that Murphy's role in the 2025 movie will be a "surprising one" that "grows."
He didn't reveal anything else about Murphy's role, but he praised director Danny Boyle, who returns to helm the sequel alongside screenwriter Alex Garland.

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are finally reuniting to make a sequel to their zombie movie classic. As we reporter earlier this year, this sequel is set up at Sony, is going to be called 28 Years Later – and it may even launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels. Last year, 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy said he’d gladly be in a sequel if it was made by Boyle and Garland, and when this project was announced, it was confirmed that Murphy is on board as an executive producer… but as months have gone by and Boyle has assembled the cast, it’s remained unclear whether or not Murphy will actually appear in the movie. Now Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman has told Deadline that Murphy is back for 28 Years Later, but he’s coming back in “a surprising way.

Before "Oppenheimer" fever swept the globe, what was actor Cillian Murphy's best and most recognizable role? Some would point to the ever-popular "Peaky Blinders" and his delightfully Brummie performance as Tommy Shelby. Anyone who offered up his casting as a space-faring physicist in Danny Boyle's "Sunshine" or even his villainous turn in Wes Craven's "Red Eye" would earn my eternal respect. But for many of us, the quintessential zombie flick "28 Days Later" best showed off what Murphy had to offer back in 2002. With plans already in motion for a return visit to that post-apocalyptic world in the sequel "28 Years Later," we've waited with bated breath to see if Murphy himself would reprise his role.
That wait is now over. The talented actor is officially coming back for "28 Years Later," as confirmed by Sony Motion Pictures Group head honcho Tom Rothman in an interview with Deadline.

Cillian Murphy has been confirmed to return for 28 Years Later by Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman.
Speaking to Deadline, the movie executive said Murphy would be back for the first film in the zombie franchise’s new trilogy and vaguely teased the actor would be involved “in a surprising way and in a way that grows.”
Rothman also praised the film as director Danny Boyle “at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver.”
Further addressing 28 Years Later, Rothman emphasized the movie is “not in any way a literal sequel.”
Earlier this year, Murphy was similarly opaque about his potential role in 28 Years Later during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, simply saying, “Watch this space.”

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reteaming for the long-awaited 28 Years Later horror sequel trilogy, with Cillian Murphy on board as executive producer. But will Murphy, who of course starred in 28 Days Later, be reprising his role? It sounds like the answer is a big Yes.
Speaking with Deadline this week, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman was flat out asked if Cillian Murphy will be back to star, and his answer suggests that is indeed the plan.
“Yes,” Rothman answered, “but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way.”
He continued, speaking more generally about 28 Years Later, “This is Danny at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver. Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it.”

Sony has dated a new film in its Insidious horror franchise from Blumhouse Productions for release on August 29, 2025, the studio revealed Thursday evening.
No further details about the project were disclosed, but this is not the Jeremy Slater-helmed Thread: An Insidious Tale, a spin-off starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, on which we were first to report.
Marking the sixth entry in the franchise, this new Insidious film comes on the heels of Insidious: The Red Door, an entry marking franchise star Patrick Wilson’s feature directorial debut, which grossed over $189 million at the worldwide box office.
Launching in 2010, the Insidious franchise from James Wan and Leigh Whannell delves into the theme of hauntings, primarily focusing on the existence of a malevolent realm known as “The Further.” This otherworldly dimension is inhabited by vengeful spirits and demons that seek to infiltrate the world of the living, often resulting in...

Danny Boyle’s new 28 Years Later movie is filming imminently, and Sony has confirmed a summer 2025 release date for the film too.
No messing around where the franchise-restarting 28 Years Later is concerned. This is the movie that will belatedly follow on from 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, reuniting the creative team behind the first of those films. That’d be director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, and with 28 Years Later they’re looking to start a brand new trilogy of movies.

The third installment of Danny Boyle’s 28 franchise is coming. 28 Years Later will release in summer 2025, Sony Pictures announced Friday.
The film, directed by Boyle with a script by Alex Garland, will be a follow-up to 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. When news of the film first made headlines earlier this year, there were also reports that Boyle and Garland hope to launch a new trilogy with this installment.
Boyle and Garland will also produce, with original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice returning as well, and Bernie Bellew joining the group. Cillian Murphy is also returning as an executive producer.
