Mc Abdul is in Cairo on a Monday night when I connect with him over Zoom. “I just got my family out of Gaza three days ago,” the Palestinian rapper says. “It’s the first time that I reunited with them in five months.”

One of the newest trends in the documentary scene is a rather evident effort to move away from the traditional approach of the medium and move towards more artistic paths (although not as avant-garde as Japanese filmmakers like Terayama and Oshima did the past), which linger somewhere between the experimental and the fictitious. This approach has become quite evident this year in Thessaloniki, with “From Abdul to Leila” being a prominent sample of this tendency.
From Abdul to Leila is screening at Thessaloniki Documentary Festival
The titular Leila Albayati is a Franco-Iraqi, who, after hearing for years her father, Abdul, a former member of the Baath party, telling stories about Iraq, decided to visit the country when she was 18, when the country was under embargo and no planes were landing. However, something terrible happened to her there, with the film hinting on the fact until the revelation close to the end,...

Nigel Lythgoe has been accused of forcibly touching a woman in the back of a car in 2016, according to the Hollywood Reporter. This is the third time in two months that the former American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer has been accused of sexual assault.

(Updated Feb 22 Pm With Nigel Lythgoe Statement) American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe has been accused of sexual assault for the third time in less than two months.
“What should have been a quick two-minute ride ended up being a ten-to-fifteen minute sexual assault and battery in which plaintiff was trapped in Lythgoe’s vehicle,” alleges a battery, gender violence and emotional distress complaint from a Jane Doe against the former So You Think You Can Dance judge.
“Lythgoe’s sexual assault and battery of plaintiff left her feeling horribly violated, shocked, guilty, humiliated, and embarrassed. Such mental anguish and emotional distress were severe and lasting to this day,” the February 17 filed jury trial seeking suit adds in the barest of language.

A new sexual assault lawsuit has been filed against Nigel Lythgoe, this time by an unidentified woman who claims the former American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance producer forcibly touched her in 2016.
The suit, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, is the latest against Lythgoe accusing him of sexual misconduct and abuse. After Paula Abdul sued the producer in December over two separate incidents of sexual assault, a pair of unnamed contestants on “Aag,” which is believed to be a reference to reality series All American Girl cited in a complaint from the women, came forward with accusations that he made unwanted sexual advances and groped them inside his Los Angeles home in 2003. That second suit was filed in January against a defendant with the initials “N.L.,” which multiple outlets identified as the producer.

Nigel Lythgoe has become the subject of an investigation led by Sony Pictures Television’s 19 Entertainment, which co-produces “So You Think You Can Dance” with Dick Clark Productions, an insider tells Variety.
Sony declined to comment on the investigation.
The executive producer of “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol” was recently hit by two sexual assault lawsuits, including one filed by Paula Abdul on Dec. 29. Abdul also sued 19 Entertainment, FremantleMedia North America, American Idol Productions and Dance Nation Productions for failing to discipline Lythgoe and protecting him from accountability.
“For years, Abdul has remained silent about the sexual assaults and harassment she experienced on account of Lythgoe due to fear of speaking out against one of the most well-known producers of television competition shows who could easily break her career as a television personality and of being ostracized and blackballed by an industry that had a...

Less than a week after Paula Abdul accused Nigel Lythgoe of sexually assaulting her twice over the past 20 years, the So You Think You Can Dance co-creator has been hit with another suit from two other women. However, unlike the action by the former American Idol judge, this latest blow against Lythgoe may not pack much legal punch.
Jane Doe K.G. and Jane Doe K.N. have filed a sexual assault/battery, sexual harassment and negligence civil suit against John Roe N.L. over an alleged attack in May 2003. While not fully named, Deadline has confirmed the John Roe N.L. is Lythgoe, who was a producer on all-female competition show All American Girl (the “Aag” of Tuesday’s suit) during its single-season run on ABC.

Nigel Lythgoe, the producer behind “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol,” was hit with a second sexual assault suit on Tuesday, days after he was sued by Paula Abdul, who had worked as a judge on both shows.
In the new lawsuit, Lythgoe faces allegations from two contestants on “All American Girl,” a competition show that aired on ABC in 2003.
The women, identified in the suit as Jane Doe K.G. and Jane Doe K.L., allege that the producer brought them to a house after the show’s wrap party and made sexual advances on both of them. One of them alleges that he pulled his sweater over her head and attempted to kiss her, while the other accuses him of pinning her against a grand piano and forcing his tongue onto her face as she tried to pull away.

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe has been added to the list of those sued for sexual assault.
The lawsuit was filed by Paula Abdul on Friday and claims that Lythgoe sexually assaulted her.
Lythgoe denied those claims and told media outlets that he was “shocked and saddened by the allegations made against [him].” He then continued to say that he and Abdul “have interacted as dear, and entirely platonic, friends and colleagues.”
“I want to be clear: not only are they false, they are deeply offensive to me and to everything I stand for,” he said. “While Paula’s history of erratic behavior is well known, I can’t pretend to understand to understand exactly why she would file a lawsuit that she must know is untrue. But I can promise that I will fight this appalling smear with everything I have.”

Updated: Paula Abdul alleged in a lawsuit on Friday that she was twice sexually assaulted by Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Abdul rose to stardom in the late 80s and built a second career as a judge of reality show competitions in the early 2000s. In the suit, she alleges that during one of the early seasons of “American Idol,” Lythgoe sexually assaulted her in an elevator.
She alleges that he shoved her against a wall, groped her breasts and genitals, and shoved his tongue down her throat. According to the suit, she tried to push him away, and as soon as the hotel door opened, she ran to her room.
Years later, Abdul was a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Lythgoe invited her to his home for dinner, and she accepted, thinking it would be a professional encounter.

Ahead of American Idol‘s upcoming 22nd season, the judges are taking a stroll down memory lane (by way of the Yellow Brick Road) in a technicolorful new promo.
Released on Friday, the video casts Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest as iconic characters from The Wizard of Oz. And while the boys are sort of dressed like Dorothy’s travel companions, Perry is once again the only judge who fully commits to the bit. (Seriously, it’s like Disney Night all over again.)

Series creator J Blakeson enjoys heist films but wanted to do something different with the subgenre. The trailer for Hulu’s Culprits shows that he did just that, setting the story years after a heist when the robbers have put their former criminal ways behind them and have established new lives.
“Heists have been done so many times, the great thing about this is that you can sort of play in that sandbox with the tropes and the expectations and the iconography of the heist, but actually tell a story, which is much more about these people who are dealing with this bad thing they’ve done and the consequences of their actions and trying to escape who they were and are trying to become a person who they’d like to be,” said Blakeson in an interview with Variety.
