The Mpah is dedicated to helping and developing the emerging film industry in Haiti. The winners for the Haiti Movie Awards were determined by online voting.

BRUSSELS -- The European Union, the United Nations and Canada have jointly financed Does the Band Leader Have AIDS?, a film aimed at raising awareness about the virus that premieres Thursday in Haiti. Directed by Haitian filmmaker Arnold Antonin, it stars Haitian-born actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, who has also appeared in Hollywood films alongside Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme. The film follows a bandleader, whose happy-go-lucky ways are challenged by a woman who refuses to sleep with him as she wants to protect herself from AIDS. The killer disease has affected up to half a million of Haiti's 8.5 million population.
