Linda Beath
- Producer
Focusing primarily on fundraising for development and production, Linda Beath works as an executive producer together with producers of feature films, feature length documentaries, long form animation, and high quality drama for prime time television. She organizes and raises production financing, often via international co-production, attracting broadcasters, distributors, and sales agents, regional and national funds, and tax incentives.
She often supervises marketing and promotional campaigns drawing on her background as a distributor in Canada and the United States. Working exclusively in the screen industry sector, her company also consults production companies on business planning and management, and governmental organizations on support mechanisms and policy. She regularly runs strategic planning sessions for European production companies to improve their positions in the international marketplace. Along with other industry experts, she is an active contributor to the discussion and development of a new business model for 2020. She is a trainer for producers in the areas of finance, co-production, and new industry revenue sources for EAVE, MAIA, and with other MEDIA programs such as EMAM - European Master in Audiovisual Management, supported and financed by the Dipartimento dello Spettacolo della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri of the Italian government, sponsored by the European Union in partnership and promoted by ANICA - Associazione Nazionale Industrie Cinematografiche Audiovisive Multimediali (UNPF/UNIDIM) in Rome (Italy), with participation of RAI (Italy), Fininvest Comunicazioni (Italy), New Line Cinema (USA), among other key players of the media industry, where joined other renowned instructors such as the producers Fernando Ghia and Antonio Saura, the screenwriting guru Christopher Vogler, the TV executive Claudio Di Persia among others.
Beath set up Ideal Filmworks in Canada to raise development and production financing for international co-productions of high quality feature films and television programmes.
Since 1991, Ideal Filmworks has trained as well as consulted in a long time commitment to supporting new talent.
It was incorporated in Italy in 2000 adding Business and Strategic Planning to its core business of entertainment industry financing.
Beath annually works with producers to find funding for four or five projects which range from features to documentaries, animated features and primetime television drama. She trains producers and other practitioners in Europe and occasionally internationally in project financing and strategic business planning for their companies. She consults to public funders on policy issues, especially with respect to the industry's need for new business models involving digital media. As twin specialisations, Business and Strategic Planning for companies in the European audiovisual sector and entertainment industry project financing (covering classic Executive Producer duties).
Ideal Filmworks works with a small number of respected producers and counts on long time relationships with European, American and Canadian companies. It has run Strategic Planning and company development workshops privately for companies in the industry and consults to several countries' film agencies, public film and television organisations like the MEDIA Desks or local film institutes on issues relating to project funding as well as growing stronger audiovisual companies.
Prior to setting up Ideal Filmworks, Beath was Senior Vice President and an Executive Producer at Sunrise Films during the period in which it produced a feature, two mini-series and two long running half hour dramatic series.
Before this, she ran the English language development, production and the international marketing divisions of Telefilm Canada.
Linda Beath's entry into financing came after 12 years experience managing first Canadian then American specialist distribution companies. The majority of the films she acquired were European and through her work on marketing and selling them, she established strong relationships with key producers in the European Union.
Also as Panorama Films' collaborator, Beath has currently been working on corporate development and co-production and film financing in Rome.
She trains professionals in Business Planning and Strategic Planning at various workshops including Cannes' Producers' Network. And as the Course Co-Director of Media's only company development programme, Screen Leaders.
She is the Finance Expert at EAVE, for Euromed Audiovisual III which commissioned a report on Financing Tools (available online) and the Head of Studies for MBS's ASBP programme. Participating in all three of EAVE annual workshops.
