Oh yes it still hurts that Ben Affleck was not given a Best Director Oscar nomination, yet his fantastic film "Argo" continues its ascension to Oscar glory! The film took home the top prize at the Producers Guild of America Awards taking home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
So guess which film will win the Oscar Best Picture? Yup, it will be "Argo!" Why? Well, Hollywood really loves movies about them and "Argo" is about a movie of a fake movie in order to help free some Americans trapped in Iran during the hostage crisis.
And, the PGA award is a significant Academy Awards precursor. Only seven times in 24 years has the PGA winner failed to win a Best Picture Oscar. So "Argo" has a strong chance.
I'm also happy that "Searching for Sugar Man" won the Documentary category, and not so happy...

Daniel Craig's third outing as James Bond nominated for prize traditionally regarded as Academy Awards signpost
The latest James Bond film, Skyfall, could be making a late run for recognition at this year's Oscars after being named among the top 10 films of 2012 by the Producers Guild of America (PGA).
The guild also named awards season frontrunners Argo, Les Miserables, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook in its list of nominees for the Darryl F Zanuck award for outstanding producer of theatrical motion pictures.
Most of the other contenders have also been feted by various critics' groups in the runup to the Academy Awards at the Dolby theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on 24 February. Quentin Tarantino's blood-spattered spaghetti western homage, Django Unchained, is starting to look a good bet for Oscar nominations after picking up another nod in the wake of its five Golden Globe nominations last month.

Finally, some love for the animated movie about the kid who sees dead people!
Dissed by the Golden Globes and other official accolade-givers so far, "ParaNorman" has emerged as the number-one champion of the Producers Guild Awards nominations. Then again, we're not sure how much credit we should give to an organization that also nominated "Rise of the Guardians" in the same category, but still, it's the thought that counts.
Non-animated nominees include "Skyfall" (also oddly shunned by the Golden Globes, except for that terrific Adele theme song) and a bunch of predictable choices such as "Les Miserables," "Lincoln," "Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty." Meanwhile, it's good to see the "Django" love spreading, and any further support for "Life of Pi" and "Moonrise Kingdom" is okay in our book.
The complete list of the nominated films for 2013 is below. The winners of the 24th Annual PGA Awards will be announced on Saturday,...

The Producers Guild of America has announced its nominations for best productions of the year, in what is often looked to as an indicator for how the Academy Awards may go.
The guild selected 10 films — most of them common guesses for the group that could make up the Oscar list of the best films of 2012: Argo, Lincoln, Les Misérables, among others.
The one surprise: Skyfall. No 007 film has ever cracked the Best Picture list, but if this nomination is any indication, that could change when the Oscar nods are revealed Jan. 10.

I never thought that DreamWorks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians would look this good. The movie is executively produced by Guillermo del Toro, and follows a group of fantasy, legendary, and mythical figures who must join forces to protect “the hopes, beliefs and imagination of the children all over the world.” The twist is that these figures are Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman (no not the Spider-Man villain).
I have to say I am very impressed with the look of the trailer. For one thing the sand action in the trailer looks incredible and absolutely breathtaking. The trailer has that storybook feel to it as it combines those characters with a sense of wonder and magic.

The film is being directed by Tim Johnson (Over The Hedge, Antz) with a screenplay by Jim Herzfeld (Meet the Fockers, Meet the Parents), which is inspired by the children's book, "My Unwilling...

Disney and Pixar have always been the undisputed champions of animation but a new contender has been rising in the ranks over the last several years: DreamWorks. The studio that brought us the Shrek films, Antz, Chicken Run, Madagascar, Bee Movie and many others has been fighting the good fight for the better part of a decade and while they have yet to over take Disney and Pixar, their upcoming slate sounds like they're once again swinging for the fences. On Tuesday, DreamWorks Animation announced their upcoming slate all the way from this summer's Kung Fu Panda 2 through 2014 when they'll release How To Train Your Dragon 2 on June 20. In between, they're preparing original films featuring the likes of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and many others. After earning many new fans with How to Train Your Dragon last year, Dreamworks seems to have gotten a fresh start in their animated department. While they have the sure-to-be-awful Puss in Boots on the way, Dragon and the popular Kung Fu Panda are getting sequels, and there seems to be a shift in focus towards more creative-based projects- certainly a change from their usual, calculated approach towards CG fare.
