Psychological horrors put the audience right inside the nightmare, either giving us an insight into the tortured psyche of the victim or into the twisted mind of the killer. The best psychological horrors like Manhunter or Copy Cat do both by exploring the hero’s journey into the ‘mind of madness’ to catch the killer and prevent and further crimes. These movies use sounds, color, and design to represent the hero’s internal journey. Here are ten of the best psychological horrors: 1 Dressed to Kill A mystery ‘woman’ brutally butchers a female patient of psychiatrist Robert Elliott (Michael Cain) in...read more...

When I watched "Interstellar" one question kept kicking around in my head: could they solve the problem of gravity? And it wasn't whether Michael Cain could figure out the equation to save humanity in the film, but it was whether the brass at Paramount and Warner Brothers could think of a way to sell "Interstellar" as Best Picture to the academy. It's another impressive production by overdue and acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. It's already sucked in $122 million at the box office and is sitting on a solid 74 Metacritic score. Then why are its odds so low (25/1), being ranked 10th by Gold Derby experts? It's all about the problem of gravity. -Break- Let's recall last year when fellow space/sci-fi 'Gravity' won the top critic award in L.A. and industry honors with the PGA and the DGA. It then led with 10 Oscar nominations and was able to win 7, including the key bellwethers of bes.

After a long day of endless interviews and routine questions, we promised both Farah and Deepika that we would keep our interview short and make it fun. So they very kindly offered to move away from the media set-up and kick back in a more relaxed environment and so began a bunch random and fun questions. Enjoy!
Farah, this is a heist film. So can you tell us what is your favourite heist film?
Farah: There are lots of them. The Inside Man, which is a super heist film. Then of course Ocean’s Eleven and The Italian Job also (the original Michael Cain one).
If there’s one thing you could steal in real life what would it be?
Deepika: I wish I could steal my family, displace them from Bangalore and place them in Bombay!
Farah: If I could steal one thing it would be Shah Rukh!

Legendary actor Michael Cain will star alongside Vin Diesel in Lionsgate's supernatural action film The Last Witch Hunter. I never thought I'd ever see those two actors star in a movie together. It's just an interesting team up.
The film is being directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies), and it also stars Game of Thrones actress Rose Leslie. According to THR, the story centers on "an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) who partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity."
This could be a fun movie, as I'm usually a fan of the films that both Diesel and Caine are involved with. Eisner is also a talented director. There's no information on who Caine will play in the story, but he will next be seen in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.

Warner Bros. is currently in talks with director Doug Liman about leading the remake of the 1981 film, ‘Victory’. The original film, which starred Pele, Michael Cain and Silvester Stalone, took place in WWII Nazi-occupied Paris. The story follow a group of P.O.W’s that must play a soccer match against the German National Team.
Doug Liman is coming off the success from his most recent film, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, starring Tom Cruise. The script will be penned by Gavin O’Connor who directed the sports film ‘Miracle.’
This film represents a shift for the big American studios, who for years have only focused on films about football and baseball. Imagine Entertainment has embraced this change with their upcoming film, ‘Pele’, starring Rodrigo Santoro (300).

As follow-up to X-Men: First Class, writer-director and comic book aficionado Matthew Vaughn is offering up Kingsman: The Secret Service, an espionage thriller that is positively stuffed with stars. Check out the newly minted trailer to see Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Michael Cain and newcomer Taron Egerton in action. Plus Samuel L. Jackson with a lisp! Because why not. Like all of Matthew Vaughn's directorial efforts thus far, Kingsman: The Secret Service is an adaptation, in this instance of a graphic novel by Mark Millar. Following the R-rated superhero adventure Kick-Ass, this makes the action comedy the second that Vaughn and his producing partner/co-writer Jane Goldman have produced from a Millar comic. Formerly known as The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Secret Service centers on Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, a young man getting up to no good in London, England. However, he's got a sharp mind and some serious potential.

Alfonso Cuaron is an enigmatic director well known for his beautiful, dark and twisted films which have his audiences going through a roller-coaster of emotions. Regardless of the age of the audience, Cuaron has a penchant for using dark tones in his films which brings out a haunted creepy aura in all his projects that have become somewhat of a calling card. Despite going through periods where he feared his dream of being a director would never happen, in 1991 he directed a Mexican movie called “Solo Con Tu Pareja”, which roughly translates to “Love in a Time of Hysteria” in English, and is a moving film about two people in the midst of crisis in their lives after one is falsely diagnosed with being HIV positive, while the other finds out that her fiance is cheating on her.

I have been invited to Locarno this year and am looking forward to going once more.
It is an amazing locale at the Swiss tip of Italy's Lago Maggiore. While the town sure looks old Italian to me people there tend to speak German.
Very charming. Their grand outdoor theater in a big piazza is rare in our film world and quite magnificent. I look forward to the films and seeing old friends.
Just announced the 20-film competition lineup features 18 world premieres and represents 16 countries, while the Piazza Grande selections run from big budget to art house films.
The Locarno Film Festival, in its first edition under the new artistic director Carlo Chatrian, on Wednesday revealed an eclectic and international lineup.
The 8,000-seat Piazza Grande, the largest silver screen in Europe and Locarno’s signature venue, this year illustrates the mixed genres Locarno traditionally features, with a lineup that includes Quentin Dupieux’s crime comedy Wrong Cops, with a cast that includes celebrity goth Marilyn Manson.
“I want the Piazza Grande selection to feature a sampling of what the festival has to offer in its various sections and tributes, and I think we made a big step in this direction,” said Chatrian, a veteran festival programmer and author who took over direction of the lakeside festival after the unexpected departure of Olivier Pere last year.
Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, a drama from Sandra Nettelbeck that stars Michael Cain as a retired professor who finds a connection with a young Parisian woman.
We’re the Millers, a comedy from Rawson Marshall Thurber with a cast that includes Jennifer Aniston and Ed Helms.
Also scheduled to screen in the picturesque Piazza Grande: 1981 classic Rich and Famous, part of the festival’s retrospective dedicated to director George Cukor (the film's star, Jacqueline Bisset, will be in Locarno to introduce the film)
Werner Herzog’s great Fitzcarraldo, the director’s 1982 biopic about Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald that will screen as part of the festival’s homage to Herzog, who will be honored with a lifetime achievement prize.
The Piazza Grande will also feature an Italian film -- La Variabile Umana (The Human Factor), the feature film debut from acclaimed documentary maker Bruno Oliviero -- for the first time in six years.
The festival previously announced that much-heralded blockbuster 2 Guns, from Baltasar Kormákur -- which stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg -- would open the festival August 7.
The competition lineup, which includes 18 world premieres and two international premieres, is nearly as varied as the selection showing in the Piazza Grande.
Among the highlights: E Agora? Lembra-me (What Now? Remind Me) from Portugal’s Joaquim Pinto, the director’s touching and vibrant telling of his battle with HIV.
Albert Serra's Historia de la Meva Mort (Story of My Death), which had been tabbed by the European press as a likely Cannes selection.
Real, the first film from Japan’s Kiyoshi Kurosawa in five years.
U Ri Sunhi (Our Sunhi) by South Kore's acclaimed Sangsoo Hong.
Sangue (Blood) from Italy’s Pippo Delbono, which explores Italy’s Red Brigade insurgency.
Short Term 12, a remake of a 2008 short (both directed by Destin Cretton), is the only U.S. film screening in competition.
“There’s an intriguing mix of young director and first time works with more experienced talent in the competition lineup,” Chatrian said. “I’m eager to see how the public will react to these films we’ve chosen.”

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Dallas Film Society (which took over the festival when the three-year licensing and consulting deal with AFI wasn’t renewed before the 2010 fest) — specifically chairman Michael Cain and artistic director James Faust — the 5th Diff has integrated itself nicely into a Dallas arts community that already has a full calendar of events to choose from throughout the year (some of my favorites I was told were going on or coming up were an Irish music festival, free earth day fest and one on ukuleles).

Willie Garson is one of those actors who’s work elevates any show or film he’s in. He played Carrie Bradshaw’s best friend, Stanford, in the Sex and the City series, Meyer in the underrated John from Cincinnati and has a résumé of guest star roles as long as your arm.
For the past two season, he’s played Mozzie on USA’s White Collar. Mozzie is an expert in most everything. And if he’s not, you can bet he soon will be.
I talked to Willie in a conference call about his character, what its like being killed on-screen and how he creates his memorable characters.
White Collar airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on USA.

What excites you about playing a character like Mozzie?

Mr. Bruce's Top Movies Of 2010. My Picks For The Best And Worst Of The Year, Now In 3D!!! Kidding...
Well thats 2010 over and done with, well not quite yet -- but still It's safe to say that thats it for 2010 in film. Apart from a few releases it's pretty much done and dusted, which is a relief for me -- because frankly it's a hard enough bunch to pick from already. I would do a Top 10, but really that would be a nightmare, as there have been sooooo many geeat movies - that 10 just wouldn't be fair.
This being the first full year of Cinema Sharks (hip hip horah!) existence I had to cinsider the way to go about making my Top movies of the year, it's not just about putting down a title -- but putting it down because you really mean it. And it's one hell of a job refining all the films of year to a small, because of the magnitude I realised I wouldn't be able to do so.

Inception
Blu-ray Combo Pack | DVD
Directed by Christopher Nolan
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Paige, Marion Cotillard, Michael Cain, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe
Warner Bros Home Entertainment
Release date: December 7, 2010
American Beauty had a tagline that instructed us to “look closer.” Apply this instruction to Inception and see what lurks underneath the myriad of descriptions explaining what inception and extraction actually are. Adhering to a more surgical approach to Christopher Nolan’s film we will be granted what truly drives the movie. Looking closer we are no longer misconstrued by the esoteric explanations of dreams, but are firmly grooved along a rail that is undeviating in its approach of getting to the heart of the film: which is the wounded souls of two men who inhabit an unrelenting atmosphere of ceaseless action.
The true meaning of this film isn’t about penetrating through multiple layers of dreams, nor is it about an espionage heist.

Director Michael Hoffman has been chosen to direct Gambit, based on a script by the Coen brothers'. First things first; this isn’t a film based on Marvel’s Gambit, but a remake of the 1966 movie Gambit, that starred Michael Cain and Shirley MacLaine. The original Gambit follows cat burglar Harry Dean (Cain) as he plans to steal a priceless statue, with the help of Suzy Chang (MacLaine). His plan continually falls through and needs constant rehashing. This remake will be one of the rare instances where the Coen brothers...

As soon as David Beckham’s contract runs out with Emporio Armani, he’s launching his own line of underwear. As long as he’s the model, I predict strong sales.
While Defense Secretary Gates says that he wants the lame duck Congress to move on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal, the newly appointed Commandant of the Marine Corps (nice appointment, President Obama) says leave it in place. What actually happens probably depends on the other service chiefs.
Adam Carolla says he’s all for legalizing pot, but if anything ever happened to him, he’d prefer a straight couple raised his kids rather than a gay couple. I guess he learned nothing from years with Dr. Drew.
Hugh Jackman has turned down hosting the Oscars this year, saying he’s too busy prepping for the new Wolverine movie that starts shooting around that time.

Obviously, Daddy was home when this smiling picture was taken.
Here at Twitterwatch we spend a lot of time walking in other people's shoes, so we know something about feeling not quite like ourselves. Whether things are just a bit off emotionally or physically, it can really throw off your game if you're not feeling quite like your normal, upbeat self.
Over the months, we've all fallen in love with the conversations that Wil Wheaton has with his dog via Twitter. I'm constantly amazed at how much nuance Wil fits into 140 characters, and I feel like I know his pets. At the top of the page, we finally get to meet Seamus Wheaton, the dog who denies chasing his own tail. And below you can see that he's very aware of his environment, and knows when Daddy has to leave.
Dog: Why is the suitcase out?! Me: I'm going to Vancouver.

- Sony's Columbia Pictures has signed up for Kevin James' next film, Here Comes the Boom (you can also thank them for Paul Blart: Mall Cop). Adam Sandler's Happy Madison will be producing, though Sandler won't actually star alongside James. Variety says Salma Hayek may wind up being the female lead, however, what anyone's role would entail is unclear given no plot details have emerged.
- Jean-Pierre Jeunet would like to make a live-action, 3D film at some point in the future. Now a 3D film from someone as visually creative as Jeunet is a 3D movie I'd actually like to see...

The fourth annual Dallas International Film Festival concluded last weekend after an 11 day-long program packed with indie films, local Texas films, documentaries and shorts, many of them cherry-picked to bring the best of the year's film festival circuit straight to Dallas area cineastes. It was a festival punctuated by a steady flow of visiting celebrities and a number of intimate industry panels (one of which yours truly was invited to participate in on behalf of Movies.com, along with Cinematical's Todd Gilchrist and former Cinematicalite-turned-Movie City News maven Kim Voynar) where filmmakers mingled nightly with locals and volunteers in the swanky penthouse lounge of the Hotel Palomar. But more importantly, as much as the festival brought movie makers in conversational proximity to its patrons, it brought notable films to its screens and filled seats even through the last days of the fest.

The 2010 Dallas International Film Festival kicked off this past weekend by presenting actress Amber Heard with the first Dallas Shining Star Award on Saturday, April 10, at The Angelika Film Center, and on Friday, April 16th, writer/director Frank Darabont will receive the Dallas Star Award for his many contributions to the film industry over the course of his illustrious career.
Heard's "Shining Star" was created with an eye toward celebrating actors, filmmakers, and film artists who have delivered exceptional performances or works on film in their brief careers as well as exhibiting the potential for greater achievements to come. "We couldn’t have found a better person to receive the inaugural Dallas Shining Star Award," said Dallas Iff Artistic Director James Faust. Taking over all eight screens of the Angelika Film Center on April 8, the Dallas International Film Festival’s opening night will feature four films - "Bill Cunningham New York," "Multiple Sarcasms," "Nosotros Los Pobres" and "Skateland" - plus a shorts program.
Dallas Film Society chairman Michael Cain explained, "The screening of multiple films on Opening Night is a direct result of listening to the filmmakers and our audience. We closed last year with multiple films and the audience loved the selection and choice. This move enables us to welcome a larger audience and turn the spotlight on more filmmaking teams who now share ownership of the opening night of the festival."
The 11-day festival will feature 153 feature films and shorts with 170 screenings.
This fest will present its Dallas Star Awards to writer-director Guillermo Arriaga, writer-director John Lee Hancock, cinematographer Wally Pfister and, to mark Mexico's Bicentennial, actor Pedro Infante.

From Indie Wire. The Dallas Film Society and the AFI announced the end of their nearly million dollar three-year agreement that saw the launch of a major new film fest in Texas. However Michael Cain, formerly of the Deep Ellum Film Festival before Afm Dallas International Film Festival began, said they will hold the renamed Dallas International Film Festival in late March or early April. Michael Cain, also head of the Dallas Film Society said it will continue to present programming throughout the year as well.
Announced with fanfare in 2006, the first AFI Dallas fest began the following spring. Its inaugural lineup featured a whopping 200 titles for year one, backed by a sizable sponsorship from Target.
Dallas has accepted the festival and it will continue. The question here is how long will AFI continue to support its own L.A. based film festival?...
