Brian Clare has been working in the visual and performing arts since
graduating from The Art Institute of Chicago's Goodman Theater with a
BFA in Directing. Beginning with still photography, Mr. Clare opened a
commercial photography business, and concentrated on producing print
advertising for six years. After transitioning to film production, he
began lighting feature and industrial films with credits that included
Big Shots (1987), The Big Town (1987), Vice Versa (1988), as well as numerous industrial and
documentary films. The first exposure to the camera department was as a
'b' camera operator on the independent film Heaven Is a Playground (1991), filmed in Chicago.
Making the move to Director of Photography, Mr. Clare filmed The Human Factor (1992)
and began focusing exclusively on filming commercials for some of the
largest advertising agencies in the country. Industry awards for
commercials include the London International Advertising Award, The
Golden Award of Montreux, as well as numerous Tellys and Clios.
Commercial clients include McDonalds, Tylenol, Kemper Insurance,
Internal Revenue Service, Fiat, Walt Disney World, Marine Corp, Gerber,
Pillsbury, Sears, Hasbro Toys and many others. Mr. Clare has
photographed and directed commercials for clients in Europe, Canada,
and across the United States. In addition to continuing his commercial
career, he is currently in preproduction on an independent theatrical
film scheduled for Fall 2002. Mr. Clare is based in the Midwest,
married to actress Paula Elser, and has 2 children. He is a member of
the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and ICG Local 600 (IATSE).
