David Gilmour has unveiled “The Piper’s Call,” the first track from his upcoming album, Luck and Strange.
“The Piper’s Call” is one of eight new songs composed by Gilmour for the album, with lyrics penned by his wife, Poly Samson. The album was produced by Charlie Andrew, and recorded with a group of contributing musicians that included Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass; Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, and Steve Distanislao on drums; Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards; and string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner.
Samson said the the album was “written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant,” and the first track finds Gilmour singing about “the promise of eternal youth.” There’s also a lyric about “steer[ing] clear of the snakes,” as well as a pretty great guitar solo from the former Pink Floyd member. Take a listen below.

Ignored, maligned and hammered out into an ‘Alan Smithee’ extended cut for TV, David Lynch’s outstanding Sci-fi epic arrives on 4K Ultra HD, finally achieving the visual opulence on home video that it had in 70mm prints at the end of 1984. The fractured, de-Lynched storyline can be argued over, but the amazing design and arresting characterizations never fail to impress — Lynch attracted a world-class cast of movie stars and used them well. Even if it’s described as a hundred fragmented scenes from a larger narrative, they’re superlative fragments. Lynch should have been authorized to make an alternate cut, his own completely personal ‘impressionist’ version of the Frank Herbert story.

Brian Eno has collected highlights from his soundtrack work over the past 40 years — some familiar, some hard-to-find — for the producer and ambient music pioneer’s new collection Film Music 1976-2020.
The compilation is a sequel of sorts to Eno’s 1978 EP Music for Films — as well as its follow-up installments in 1983 and 1988 — and bridges his film work from 1976’s Sebastiane (“Final Sunset”) through 2020’s Stewart Brand documentary We Are As Gods.

Brian and Roger Eno are asking fans to submit videos that capture some facet of their life in quarantine for a new video project, A Quiet Scene.
The project is tied to the Eno brothers’ recent record, Mixing Colours, and was inspired by the four videos they released with musician and software designer Peter Chilvers for album cuts “Celeste,” “Sand,” “Ultramarine” and “Blonde.” Those clips paired the Enos’ music with footage of panoramic landscapes, and now Brian and Roger are seeking to do something similar with homemade footage from fans.

Brian and Roger Eno present a journey through a strange but familiar landscape in the new visual for “Celeste,” the first offering from the brothers’ first-ever collaborative album Mixing Colours.
“Celeste” is the first in a series of seven Mixing Colours visuals directed by Brian Eno and software designer Peter Chilvers that “marries the simplicity and contemplative qualities of its soundscapes with suitably uncomplicated, mesmerizing imagery of slowly changing, dreamlike panoramas,” Deutsche Grammophon said of the visuals.
“Nearly all of the work on this album was done on trains,” Brian Eno said in a statement.

Brian Eno strongly believes he saw the flight path overhead of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human to travel into space, when he was 12. “I was very excited by it,” he recalls now. But within a few years he lost his interest in space travel. By the time Neil Armstrong bested Gagarin by setting foot on the moon on July 20th, 1969, when Eno was 21, he didn’t expect to be impressed. “It just seemed to me like one of the many amazing things that was happening in the Sixties,” says the composer,...

It’s a privilege befitting an ambient icon who once soundtracked a moon landing documentary: On Tuesday, the science festival Starmus V presented Brian Eno with a certificate commemorating that Asteroid 81948 has been named in his honor.
Astronomer Marc Buie of the Southwest Research Institute, who discovered the asteroid, presented the certificate. He selected Eno for the honor in conjunction with the International Astronomical Union and the Minor Planet Centre.
Previously known as “81948 (2000 OM69),” the asteroid is now dubbed the equally long “Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno” (or,...

It's easy to forget how much of an accomplishment the Apollo moon missions were. Looking back on it now, it seems like the entire event is represented by the same over-saturated stock clips and sound bytes, robbing it of any sense of passion, adventure or danger. Let's just think about this for a second; these men were strapping themselves to the end of a 36 story rocket and being shot into space...in the 60's. The moon landing pre-dated the invention of the Vcr. If I have yet to blow your mind, Al Reinhert's For All Mankind might just do the trick. Although there's been a recent boom in space documentaries, For All Mankind was one of the first that took the steps to revisit the hundreds of hours of Nasa footage filmed by the astronauts throughout the moon missions. The result is a stunning collection of never-before-seen images that give...
