Germoglio began his career in 1977 at the 2B studio in Milan as photo assistant in the fashion and cinema newsreel spheres. A year later, he started
working with a real "maestro",
Mario Damicelli, Camera Operator in
Federico Fellini's Movie Amarcord, at
the Advision production company and in the 1979, and he worked as Film editing assistant at Milan-based post-production company Green Movie. From 1983 to 1992, Germoglio built a reputation as a freelance editor.
Additionally, Germoglio worked with advertising agencies, following creative projects from the initial idea to finalization, and started directing commercials. These experiences are followed by specialist courses and professional trips abroad. From 1989 to the end of 1992, Germoglio worked with Avid Technology on the development of Media Composer software, becoming the first Media Composer editor in Italy and one of the first users worldwide, and also obtained the status of authorized Media Composer trainer. In 1992, he collaborated with Discreet Logic on the development of the Flint and Flame compositing software. In 1994, Microsoft and then Softimage sought his cooperation in the development of Digital Studio software. In 1992, he inspired the creation of Interactive Group, with which he collaborated for two years. In 1992, he founded Rumblefish Srl to handle the post-production work of Interactive Group. Rumblefish then evolved from a simple off-line editing company into a company able to take on and finalize an entire project digitally, thanks to the acquisition of the first Discreet Logic Flint RT in Italy. In 1999, MTV Italy choose Rumblefish as its partner for the launch of "graphic department".
In 2000, Rumblefish and Germoglio as a film editor, post-production and special effects supervisor for M. Nichetti's Honolulu Baby (2001), did the first feature film in Europe and one of the first in the world to be fully post-produced digitally (DI) and finalized in 2K. Germoglio worked on the project as film editor (and was nominated for a Davide DI Donatello award for best editing), post-production and special effects supervisor. In the same year, he also worked on a multimedia project for AEM, the Milan energy company doing all the contents.
In 2001, Rumblefish is also tasked with sit-com and fiction productions for national private TV network Mediaset (Casa Vianello and Finalmente Soli, Real Fighters, Real TV etc.) plus a series of cartoons (Cocco Bill) transmitted by public broadcaster RAI.
In 2002, the first High Definition products, video clips, TV commercials and nationally-distributed feature films such as M. A. Avati's "Anime" and Alessandro Haber's Scacco pazzo (2003). In 2003, Sky chooses Rumblefish as its partner for the launch of the Sky Sport and Sky Cinema channels, and tasks it with the graphics, promos and some transmissions.
In 2006, All Music named Rumblefish operational partner for its launch, following acquisition by the Espresso media group. In 2007, Germoglio renewed Rumblefish, focusing its activities in more specific areas: special effects, character animation, motion graphics and color correction in 2K/HD. The main innovation is the introduction of a fully 2K "pipeline", thus making film-industry methods available to the advertising market. Three major projects bear witness to the significance of the 2007 changes: Reactine, which won the Bronze Lion in Cannes, ING Bank and Volkswagen Fox.
In 2008, continuing in this direction, Germoglio invested in a film scanner and in two digital color correction systems so as to complete its high-profile offering. An SAN is added to the existing infrastructure so as to enhance and optimize the work flow. To the aforementioned clients can be added the name of H3G, with which Rumblefish concluded an agreement for the creation of all the graphics for the launch of its mobile phone channel. Germoglio supervised all the work realized in Rumblefish, holding different rolls as needed: VFX & Post Production Supervisor, Senior Editor, Executive Producer or Executive Creative Director. Many prestigious award-winning commercials realized such as Ligabue and Giorgia's video clips which win Mediastar Award, then commercials for Skoda shot with Red camera, Isinisi by G. Muccino, Ruggero Gabbai's "Io ricordo" a movie against mafia and the documentary "L'uomo che aveva picchiato la testa" directed by Paolo Virzi'.
Rumblefish developed a proprietary pipeline to manage materials shot with digital cameras such as Red, Phantom, D21, etc., optimizing conversion time maintaining the original file format. In 2009 Germoglio edits Vivaldi "The Red Priest" an international production and Rumblefish manage DI process. That year the market confirmed Germoglio's work method, a pipeline completely in 2K based on files abandoning the old schemes connected to the videos.
Rumblefish managed the post production for commercials such as Jergermeister, Heineken, VW Golf, Toyota, Coca Cola, Telecom Azienda, Pomellato, just to mentioned the main and prestigious ones. Always in 2009 Danone decided to commit all its productions to Rumblefish with a biennial agreement. But movies remain the most important project for Rumblefish with prestigious productions such as "La partita lenta" directed by Paolo Sorrentino for the "PerFiducia" project supported by Intesa San Paolo Bank. Rumblefish manages DI and this film won the Raindance Festival. Again, "Male di miele" directed by Marco Pozzi and Wim Wenders' "Il volo" in 3D stereo.
In 2010 Rumblefish continued the exclusive contract with Danone creating all their TV campaigns. The most important confirmation is the growth of character animation with a very demanding 3D production for Forst, that was nominated at the most prestigious award organized by the HPA in Hollywood, and three 3D commercials for the steel factory Ilva. Just to mention a few: billposting in Times Square for Barilla, the Alitalia "Magnifica" adv, Armani "Galaxy", Ferrari, Mercedes, Ducati, MTV Vampire Weekend in 3D stereo and much more.
In 2011 there are many new technologies and projects that expand the horizons. Rumblefish has invested in a new color correction and 3D stereo system, Nucoda, able to work with native files with, integrated, a digital restoration software for feature film. The new system is included in a screening room with the new Barco 2K projector certified DCI with 3D option of the Xpand. Rumblefish has therefore a new restoration area that has already managed prestigious projects such as: Soap Thieves, Maurizio Nichetti's multi-award winning movie restored in 4K; Au nom de la loi, french film of the '30s, Cavalli premiered at the Venice Film Festival. For the 3D stereo, on the other hand, Rumblefish took care of the on-line and the alignment of the cameras in 3D stereo for the concert Isle of Mtv 2011 in Malta with Snoop Dogg and the film event in the theaters "Ligabue - Campovolo in 3D". Among the other important work: Asdomar, multi-subjects campaign all in 3D, Carpisa, Pupa, Ariel in 3D stereo for cinema, Barilla "Alphabet" a traveling multi-subjects campaign through Europe and Kukident Battle an international spot, with a CGI demo, said by Procter&Gamble to be innovative and historic for its quality and treatment.
