It was a senseless murder at the heart of the video footage that put away a killer on "The First 48." Melfred Elkins stumbled out into the street after getting stabbed and collapsed. Thanks to the video footage that caught that moment, along with footage from other nearby businesses, detectives were able to track down and charge Russell Green.
The story is that Green went with a female friend to protect her. She was going to be meeting someone, but that someone wasn't Elkins. Nevertheless, Green and Elkins exchanged words, and then Elkins wound up murdered. According to the woman Green was supposed to be protecting, Elkins was just an innocent bystander.
Thankfully, the video cameras caught everything on tape, so perhaps the killer can be found guilty and sentenced accordingly. According to the show, Green is currently awaiting trial.
