Powerhouse Indicator moves forward to their fourth fancy box of noirs from the studio of Harry Cohn, six pictures stretching from the postwar boom to the end of the original classic noir era. This time around we have some notable directors, and a nice selection of stars — Dennis O’Keefe, George Murphy, Fred MacMurray, Kim Novak, Jean Simmons, Rory Calhoun and Richard Conte. Kim Novak makes her starring debut as a femme fatale; noir icon Richard Conte shines in a movie that marks a turn into a new kind of existential, paranoid thriller. And speaking of paranoid, we again get to lighten up with another selection of theme-appropriate Three Stooges shorts.

It always comes back to this. As far as I can remember watching horror, there was always this kind of film showing on TV: ordinary folk, exposure to something awful (usually nuclear in nature), and then ensuing chaos. Of course I’m talking about the ‘50s and the Atomic Age of Horror, and starting with the title, 1977’s The Incredible Melting Man is intent on paying homage to them. Intent is a helluva word; full of optimism and purpose, it suggests a clear vision to be followed through. However, if it had been, we wouldn’t be left with this hilarious and heartfelt curiosity.
Released by American International stateside in December, Timm didn’t do great business nor were critics lining up to ladle praise upon it. Every review however did laud Rick Baker’s gooey makeup, and it has been considered the lone shining star in a vacant sky...

Did Republic’s serial-makers lose their marbles? This is an endurance test of a thriller, with 12 chapters that refuse to advance a story beyond the same repetitive ambushes and fistfights. It’s got monsters in the form of giant crawfish bred to… well, bred for almost no reason at all. With Phyllis Coates and Myron Healey. I tell you, watching this feels like watching an endless loop. But hey, it’s quite handsomely filmed!

The just-concluded 2015 official ratings period has given all three commercial networks something to crow about, despite the continued shrinkage of free-to-air audiences.
New and returning Australian dramas performed strongly for the Seven and Nine Networks while Network Ten had just one fresh drama, the FremantleMedia Australia telemovie Mary: The Making of a Princess.
The Seven Network was No. 1 in primetime for the ninth year running, Seven was the most watched primary channel and 7Two the most popular digital channel.
My Kitchen Rules (2.473 million) was the top-rating regular program and 800 Words (2.103 million) the most successful new series and new drama.
Seven also scored handsomely with Catching Milat (2.55 million). Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door (2.36 million), The X Factor (1.95 million). House Rules (1.86 million) and Winter (1.57 million).
The Nine Network claimed the crown as No. 1 in the key demographics of 25-54, 18-49 and 16-39 for the fourth successive year.

The Nine Network is to produce a studio-based entertainment series which challenges everyday people to transform their lives.
This Time Next Year will follow participants as they try to change their lives over the course of 12 months by, for example, losing weight, finding love or having a child.
The broadcaster acquired the Australian format rights from Britain.s Twofour, which is producing the UK version hosted by Davina McCall for ITV. Nine will produce six 60 minute episodes.
In the UK show, once each person makes his or her pledge, he or she leaves the studio to begin the task. Moments later he or she reappears in the studio, transformed one year later, as McCall reveals how each feat was accomplished.
The deal was announced at Mipcom. In a media release Nine Network director of television Michael Healy said: .This Time Next Year stands out as something we believe will resonate with Australian audiences.

If any movie deserved to be seen as one of the best worst movies of all time it would probably be The Incredible Melting Man, and no that is not an insult. The acting leaves much to be desired, most of the film is about a guy in make-up walking around the countryside and the story never really finds a right direction, but you know what? I like it, and more importantly this is a movie that shows that sometimes the makeup department (and more importantly, Rick Baker) can cement the movie into the memories of those who have seen it as something a little special.

Sarah Lambert wasn.t around in the 1960s but Love Child, the drama series she created for the Nine Network, sets to capture that era of revolution, bohemia, youthful innocence and exuberance.

Creating the next Disney movie phenomenon feels a bit like baking a cake from a mix. If the formula is followed, the outcome will be airy and sweet.
"Teen Beach Movie," premiering Friday, July 19, on Disney Channel, is a mash-up of 1950s surfers and bikers. It has chaste romances, energetic choreography and peppy songs. It also has time travel and a cartoonish villain.
Seventeen months ago on Governor's Beach in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, the cast rehearsed as iguanas scuttled under trailers, and flocks of blackbirds screeched. The plot has the plucky heroine, Mack (Maia Mitchell, "The Fosters"), happily living with her grandfather. She loves to surf with her boyfriend, Brady (Ross Lynch, "Austin & Ally").
Her aunt arrives to whisk her away to a preppy school. Mack feels obligated to live up to expectations. In her diary, Mack's late mother wrote: "I dream my daughter becomes a great success, that she...

Peter Gunn – created and produced by Blake Edwards – ran for three seasons – from 1958 to 1961. This classic detective show was a delightful blend of film noir and fifties cool, featuring a modern jazz score by Henry Mancini (a bonus CD of the soundtrack is included in the set), outbreaks of the old ultra-violence, a gallery of eccentric and sleazy characters (usually informants, gangsters and Beat Generation bohemians), and great acting by series leads Craig Stevens (as Gunn), Lola Albright (as his squeeze, sultry nightclub singer Edie Hart) and Herschel Bernardi (as Gunn’s friend and competitor Lieutenant Jacoby, who seems to work all by himself 24 hours a day...

Nine Network has announced that it has picked up Australia’s Got Talent after the talent show franchise was dropped by Seven.
Although the show was included in Seven’s highlights reel for 2013, the network has now indicated it does not have a place for it in its schedule. Seven also airs The X Factor, which has been rating far more strongly than the last series of Agt.
Agt, produced by Fremantle Media, was hurt by running in the same period of Nine’s The Voice, which is produced by Shine.
Yesterday’s news that Seven was dropping Agt briefly increased the likelihood that Ten would bring Australian Idol back. Ten has already said it will air American Idol next year, increasing speculation that it was considering a return for Australian Idol if audiences take to the Us version which features Keith Urban among the judges. Urban was previously on The Voice.

Top Gear Australia: scrapped?
BBC Worldwide’s Top Gear format is returning to Channel Nine – but the future of the Australian spin-off show is up in the air.
Top Gear Australia failed to win a big audience when it returned to Nine for its second season a year ago, pulling in less than half of the ratings of its debut audience in 2010.
Nine told Mumbrella that the network would run the remaining episodes of last year’s series, which ended early due to poor ratings, to see how the show fared this year. The network added that it had “not yet made a decision” on whether to run another series of Top Gear Australia.
However, a BBC Worldwide spokesperson told Mumbrella that there were “no plans” to bring the Freehand-produced show back.

Hamish and Andy return for Hamish and Andy’s Euro Gap Year with the duo travelling around Europe and shooting out of a disused London pub.
The announcement:
After immersing themselves in American culture last year, Hamish and Andy have decided you can never stop learning and it would therefore be irresponsible not to take another gap year in 2012.
The Nine Network’s new series, Hamish and Andy’s Euro Gap Year, will feature the boys’ travels and adventures throughout Europe and be broadcast weekly from a disused pub in London.
“There’s so much to see and do in Europe, which will no doubt make us thirsty, so returning to the pub each week to air the show just makes sense”, said Hamish.
Whether it’s bus pulling, ice swimming or dropping in to a festival of snails, Hamish and Andy will be there to revel in Europe’s weird and wonderful pastimes.

hollywoodnews.com: It was unclear as to why Justin Timberlake, whose ethnic origins are believed to be European, was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. The 42nd annual event aired on March 4th, and with the results of the contest announced, it seems that Timberlake did not win in his nominated category.
Timberlake’s performance in “The Social Network” won him the nod for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, a nomination he shared with Samuel L. Jackson (“Mother and Child), Don Cheadle (“Brooklyn’s Finest”), Idris Elba (“Takers”), and Michael Healey (“For Colored Girls”). In the end, Jackson won.
The nomination was puzzling given the stated purpose of the awards: “to celebrate the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.

According to the Nine’s head of drama Jo Horsburgh, the network’s slate is one of its busiest ever, even in the face of increasing production costs.
“The question from both [CEO] David Gyngell and [director of programming] Michael Healy has been ‘Can we make more and more Australian drama?’ Certainly the sense within Nine is the more, the merrier, but the reality is how long it takes to get it on to the screen, to find the projects, to get the finance together,” Horsburgh told Encore.
“We’d love to be like Hollywood but we’re not quite there yet. Ideally, we’d like to make more because Australian audiences are interested in Australian drama, and that’s been demonstrated,” she said. “Generally speaking, there have been increases in salaries and equipment, and rightly so, in the cost of scripts, which was long overdue.”
