Esposito, himself a gearhead, stars as Gracian “Gray” Parish, a family man and proud owner of a luxury car service in The Big Easy.
Speaking at AMC’s TCA press tour, Esposito said New Orleans is a “city of demons”.
“It’s a city that has a majority of churches, more than any other city in America. It’s a city with bars on every corner, where you can party until four in the morning. It seems like a place where you have to make a choice and our show’s a lot about the choices that Gracian Parish makes, whether they be good choices or bad choices and how they affect his family,” he said. “It was so much about the family and community, not only the city,...

Variety’s annual Showrunners Dinner presented by A+E Studios on Thursday night gathered writers recognized on the publication’s annual TV Producers Impact List, as well as several of this year’s Emmy nominees. In addition, megaproducer Chuck Lorre was honored with Variety’s first Norman Lear Award.
Held at Merois, on the rooftop of the Pendry West Hollywood, the Variety Showrunners Dinner included a very funny acceptance speech by Lorre, who pointed out some of the similarities — but more humorously, the differences — between the two icons.
“I think everyone here understands the enormity and significance of Norman Lear’s body of work,” Lorre began. “So in accepting this award, I don’t think it’s false modesty to take a moment and focus on the very large differences between his career and my own. For starters, Norman Lear began his career writing for Hollywood legends like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” has unveiled first look images.
The series is a reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie as Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith, respectively. In this iteration, Donald Glover (“The Martian”) stars as John Smith, while Maya Erskine (“PEN15”) stars as Jane Smith.
This new version features John and Jane both landing jobs working for an international spy agency where they must pose as spouses Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith. As they navigate a new mission each week, they find themselves falling in love with one another, complicating — and compromising — their “strictly business” relationship. Notably, this version features an intentional sham marriage between two strangers, as compared to the 2005 original, in which Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith were married without being aware of each other’s identity as an assassin.
Glover serves as co-creator and executive producer, along with Francesca Sloane...

‘Avalon’ Not Going Forward At ABC; David E. Kelley’s Neve Campbell-Led Drama Being Shopped Elsewhere
ABC has passed on David E. Kelley’s crime drama series Avalon, starring Neve Campbell, after it was handed a straight-to-series order in February.
The Disney-owned network is not moving forward with the project, which is based on a Michael Connelly short story, after it saw the pilot episode.
While unusual for a straight-to-series order, ABC does have an option not to take such shows forward after receiving the first cut, and obviously Disney is a part owner in A+E Studios, which was producing with 20th Television.
The move echoes ABC’s pass on the Alec Baldwin/Kelsey Grammer-fronted multi-cam comedy last year.
Deadline understands that A+E Networks will explore its options and attempt to sell it to another network or streamer. A+E Networks was successful in shopping one of its other Kelley projects, The Lincoln Lawyer, to Netflix after CBS passed, though that one ended in a lawsuit.

ABC has reversed course on the drama series “Avalon,” opting not to move forward with the show despite giving it a straight-to-series order in February.
“Avalon” hailed from David E. Kelley and executive producer Michael Connelly, with the show based on a short story that Connelly wrote. Neve Campbell was set to star in the lead role. Other cast members included Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff.
Per the official logline, the show “takes place in the main city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where LA Sheriff Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell) heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than 1 million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island. Detective Searcy is pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island.”

ABC is scuttling its series Avalon, taking the series from David E. Kelley off its 2022-23 slate.
The drama, produced by A+E Studios and Disney’s 20th Television, was to have starred Neve Campbell as the L.A. Sheriff’s detective who leads a small office on Catalina Island off the Southern California coast. The show, based on a short story by Michael Connelly and created for television by the prolific Kelley, scored a straight to series order in February.
Dana Calvo (Good Girls Revolt, Narcos) came aboard as showrunner in April. Campbell heads a cast that also includes Steven Pasquale, Alexa Mansour, Demetrius Grosse and Roslyn Ruff.
Sources say that the show’s first episode had finished filming, but nothing beyond that. A+E Studios is said to believe in the show’s auspices and will explore options to find Avalon another home.

ABC has opted not to pick up the drama pilot “Criminal Nature” to series.
