In June 1970, Elvis Presley made the trip east from his Graceland home in Memphis to Nashville, where he holed up in RCA Studio B on Music Row for five days of recording. Presley, who was in the midst of his Las Vegas comeback at the International Hotel, was joined by Music City sessions players like Charlie McCoy and Norbert Putnam — the legendary “Nashville Cats.” The result came to be known among fans as the “marathon sessions.”
Now, a new four-disc compilation assembles the masters from those halcyon days and captures Presley at his energetic best.

Katy Perry thinks pop stars are too sexy these days, bemoaning the strange world in which established pop stars think they have to be “naked to be noticed.” The pop tart, lacking any sort of self awareness, says “I’m not talking about anyone in particular. I’m talking about all of them. I mean, it’s like everybody’s so naked. It’s like put it away. We know you’ve got it. I got it, too. I’ve taken it out here and there. And I’m not necessarily judging. I’m just saying sometimes it’s nice to play that card, but also it’s nice to play other cards.”

Enver Gjokaj was my favorite part of Dollhouse. The scene where his personality gets flipped for a slutty teenage girl in the nightclub is one of the greatest scenes in television. So I’m thrilled that he’s taken on a recurring role on Witches of East End as a novelist.
This is why you never eat random “food” you find on the floor of a television studio.
Do we have to all be coupled up? Why do people think we need a partner to be complete, because I’m with this guy.
Congratulations to two time gold medalist soccer stars Abby Wambach and Sarah Huffman, who got married this weekend in Hawaii.
Billy Magnussen is coming back to television as the wealthy, driven middle son on HBO’s pilot Money.

"Glee" star Jane Lynch has joined the ongoing boycott against Amway after the Michigan-based direct selling company's president was revealed to have made a personal donation to an anti-gay marriage group.
Lynch, who is openly gay and married to clinical psychologist Lara Embry, "grabbed the pen out of my hand and signed away," according to former Republican presidential candidate and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) rights advocate Fred Karger, who asked for the actress's support of the boycott he launched in August, according to Michigan Live.
The postcard bearing Lynch's signature has reportedly since been sent to Amway president and owner Doug DeVos. Other high-profile names attached to the boycott include reality TV star Reichen Lehmkuhl, who is also openly gay.
Karger, who serves as president of the Lgbt advocacy group Rights Equal Rights foundation, says his boycott extends to Amway's parent company and all all other businesses affiliated with DeVos' family business,...

We don't hear too much about Gop hopeful Fred Karger until he makes the news for not doing something -- particularly for not having participated in the recent Iowa debates -- and so he's taking steps to ensure that won't happen again. Karger, you'll recall, filed a complaint against Fox News earlier this month after he says the network altered its eligibility requirements in order to keep him out of the debate, adding that this "blatant affront by Fox News executives smacks of discrimination." Karger is an openly gay Republican who has long been a very vocal advocate of gay rights. This time around, Karger is taking precautions.

Fred Karger, a political consultant and gay rights activist seeking the Republican nomination, has filed a complaint against Fox News after the network allegedly did not allow him to participate in last week's Ames, Iowa caucus debates. The first person to announce his candidacy, Karger says he met with the network's criteria to participate, but was nonetheless shut out. And he'd like the Federal Election Commission to figure out just why that was. In a press release, he hints that discrimination might be at play.

Every presidential campaign is a made-for-tv special. Some years it’s a romantic comedy, filled with “bimbo eruptions” (like Bill Clinton’s in 1992) or yachts named “Monkey Business” (Gary Hart’s in 1988). Other years, it plays out more like a crime drama, with hotel break-ins and slush funds and other dirty tricks (Nixon in 1972). Still others (say, Obama’s in 2008) unfold like a thrilling superhero adventure.
And the 2012 campaign? So far, like everything else on TV these days, it’s a reality show.

A new study in California finds that older (50-70) gay men are more likely to suffer depression, live alone and suffer from issues like high blood pressure than their straight counterparts. Of course that could be because they can’t get married and take care of each other, just a thought.
Hop looks to have finished with a respectable $38.1 million for the weekend, higher than expected. Jake Gyllenhaal may still have a career after Source Code (aka Groundhog Day meets Déjà vu) had a decent $15.1 million opening.

ABC is working on rebooting Charlie’s Angels for the fall season, and while the Angels have always been smokin’ hot, Bosley hasn’t been much to look at. But that may be changing. 8: The Mormon Proposition is a stirring, tragically depressing documentary about the Mormon Church's massive efforts to support and pass California's Proposition 8 ballot initiative (also called the California Marriage Protection Act), which in 2008 redefined marriage in the state of California as being only between a man and a woman, effectively making marriage between same-sex couples illegal and unrecognized. Depending on which side of the debate you stand on, you will find it either silly and pointless, or obscenely infuriating and find yourself filled with a sense of righteous fury.
I found myself in the latter category. If you're looking for an impartial review, I confess that you won't find it here.

Actress Jane Wyman, who won an Oscar for her performance in Johnny Belinda and who was known offscreen as the first wife of Ronald Reagan, died Monday morning at her home in Palm Springs; she was 93. An actress who started out as a contract player at Warner Bros., Wyman worked in a number of B movies (with most of her early parts uncredited) and was rarely cast in a lead role. In fact, her most notable part during the early '40s was as the wife of fellow contract player Ronald Reagan, whom she married in 1940 and with whom she had two children, Maureen and Michael. Reagan and Wyman would divorce in 1948, as her career was taking off. In 1945, Wyman was able to persuade Jack Warner to loan her out for the Paramount film The Lost Weekend opposite Ray Milland. The film was a box office hit and a critical smash, winning four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The role finally put her on the Hollywood map, and the following year she starred in the adaptation of The Yearling, for which she received her first Oscar nomination. In 1948, she starred in the melodrama Johnny Belinda, playing a deaf-mute woman living in the backwoods of Canada who falls in love with a kindly doctor (Lew Ayers). The film, in which the deglamorized Wyman was a victim of rape, a single mother, town outcast and put on trial for murder -- all during which she never spoke a line of dialogue -- earned her a Best Actress Oscar and the freedom to choose roles she wished to play.
Wyman also starred in The Glass Menagerie, The Blue Veil (her third Academy Award nomination), So Big, and two Douglas Sirk dramas, Magnificent Obsession and All That Heaven Allows, both of which paired her with an up-and-coming actor by the name of Rock Hudson; she received her fourth and final Oscar nomination for Obsession. In the late '50s she moved to television with her own show, Jane Wyman Presents the Fireside Theater, and worked steadily in the medium throughout the '60s and '70s, occasionally appearing in feature films. In the early '80s Wyman enjoyed a career renaissance of sorts with the primetime soap opera Falcon Crest, in which she played the wealthy and ruthless matriarch of a Napa Valley wine family. During the show's run, her former husband became president of the United States and despite her high profile, Wyman remained quiet and respectful about their marriage, never giving interviews about him. Falcon Crest, which ran from 1981-1990, was essentially Wyman's last role; she made one last television appearance in 1993 in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Wyman was married five times, twice to her last husband, studio music director Fred Karger, whom she divorced in 1965. She is survived by her son Michael; her daughter, Maureen Reagan, died of cancer in 2001. --Mark Englehart, IMDb staff...
