Patricia Louisiana Knop, a film screenwriter and television producer known for 9 1/2 Weeks, Wild Orchid and the Showtime series Red Shoe Diaries, died at age 78 on Aug. 7 in Santa Monica, Calif. from what her publicist said was a lengthy illness.
She was married for 46 years to producer/director Zalman King, who collaborated with her on many projects, including the scripts for Wild Orchid and 9 1/2 Weeks. He died in 2012.
Knop was born on Oct. 23, 1940 in Muskegon, Michigan. As a teenager longing for adventure, she wrote to the captain of a boat docked in Florida, and asked if she might join his crew. He said yes, so she boarded a train and made the long journey alone, only to discover that the captain had no idea who she was and what he had agreed to. However, he took her on.
At sea, she met and fell in love with fellow crewman Zalman King Lefkowitz.

Screenwriter Patricia Louisianna Knop, who collaborated with her producer-director husband Zalman King on erotically-charged films of the late 1980s and 1990s including “Siesta” and “9 1/2 Weeks,” died Aug. 7 in Santa Monica after a lengthy illness.
“9 1/2 Weeks,” starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger, was directed by Adrian Lyne, co-produced by King and co-written by Knop. The film proved controversial for its explicit S&m-theme and was heavily cut before its U.S. release.
Her writing credits also include “Delta of Venus,” “Wild Orchid” and “Red Shoe Diaries.” King directed “Wild Orchid” and the pair collaborated on the screenplay for the film starring Rourke and Jacqueline Bisset, which also had to be cut in order to obtain an R-rating.
Knop’s other screenplays included “Lady Oscar” and “Silence of the North.”
Knop met King on a Caribbean-bound schooner in 1961, and King began acting on TV shows. Knop also co-wrote the book for Broadway...

Some sad news has come in: Producer, director, and screenwriter Zalman King, age 69, died this morning at his Santa Monica, California, home following a six-year battle with cancer. While best known for his erotically-charged projects like 9 1/2 Weeks, "Red Shoe Diaries," and Wild Orchid, King did dip his toes into the horror genre on more than one occasion.
He got his start as an actor in the 60's and 70's (this writer being a big fan of his back in those days) but gained the most notoriety for writing, producing, and directing the aforementioned titles. His genre-related performances included appearances on the small screen in "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" back in 1964 and "The Munsters" in 1965 as well as the feature films Saint Francis, Galaxy of Terror, Blue Sunshine, and Trip with the Teacher.

Well it didn’t take long for Skyler Samuels to be snatched up for another television show. Samuels, who played succubus Andie Bates on ABC’s canceled supernatural Buffy-meets-Desperate-Housewives show, The Gates, will star in a new ABC Family pilot. The pilot is based on Celia Thomson’s young adult series The Nine Lives of Chloe King in which a young girl “discovers that she has feline abilities.”
The pilot is produced by Dan Berendsen (Wizards of Waverly Place, Sabrina, The Teenaged Witch). Check out what this book series is about:
“She did her homework and got good grades, but she wasn’t afraid to ditch class sometimes to hang out with her best friends. She slept at home, but otherwise avoided all human contact with her mom. The usual stuff. Then she fell from San Francisco’s highest tower, and her life changed. For starters, she died. And then,...

Wood's character sees Wilfred as a man in a dog suit, but the rest of the world sees him as a dog. Jason Gann is the co-creator of the series and he played the title character in the Australian version.

Ryan Murphy is in negotiations to rewrite and direct Need for Escape Artists and Paramount Pictures. Need is based on Lawrence David's novel that centers on a psychiatrist who discovers that her new patient, a maniacally depressed woman, is having an affair with her husband. The project is a long-gestating one, and Murphy is being looked at as a reboot. Chloe King and Jon Bokenkamp were previous adapters of the book, and at one point Marcus Nispel was attached to direct. Diane Lane, who was going to star, no longer is attached.
Going from psychos to psychotherapists, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Marcus Nispel has signed to helm Need for Escape Artists and Paramount Pictures. Production is slated to start Feb. 1 in Los Angeles. In Need, a successful New York therapist discovers that one of her patients -- a suicidal woman named Beth -- is having an affair with her husband. Diane Lane is in final negotiations to star as the therapist. The co-starring roles have yet to be cast. Chloe King wrote the script, which is loosely based on David Lawrence's novel of the same name. Jon Bokenkamp rewrote the material. Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and David Alper are producing. Marc and Peter Samuelson are also producing through their Samuelson Prods., as is Jonathan Prince. Nispel became a wanted man around town when his feature directorial debut, the $9 million-budgeted Chainsaw, opened to $28.1 million. Its gross stands at $66.1 million. The Monday after the film's opening weekend, Nispel was deluged with offers, sources said. Before turning his attention to movies, the German-born director worked in the music video world. He is repped by Endeavor.
