It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re looking back at a movie that is finally getting a sequel almost forty years after it was released. It’s the 1984 slasher The Mutilator (watch it Here), and you can find out all about it by watching the video embedded above!
And once you’ve watched The Mutilator get the Real Slashers treatment, you can watch the trailer for the upcoming sequel Mutilator 2 at This Link.
Written and directed by Buddy Cooper, The Mutilator has the following synopsis: When Ed receives a message from his father asking him to go and lock up the family’s beach condo for the winter, it seems like the perfect excuse for an alcohol-fuelled few days away with his friends. After all, his dad has forgiven him for accidentally blowing mom away with a shotgun several years ago…...

Thirty-eight years after gifting the world a really cool slasher called The Mutilator (pick up a copy Here), writer/director Buddy Cooper has finally gotten around to making a sequel to the film… and over the weekend, he took to social media to unveil the first official poster for Mutilator 2! You can take a look at the poster at the bottom of this article.
Cooper notes that “the woman bound to the nasty looking piling” on the Mutilator 2 poster is Olivia, played by Eva Hamilton of Death Kiss. Producer Jeff Seemann added that “the ocean water was in the 40s when Eva stepped into it for this scene.” So it definitely sounds like it’s a moment worth promoting on the poster.

"This city owes... justice." Vinegar Syndrome has unveiled the brand new trailer for a long lost 80s campy action film titled New York Ninja, which has been finished and is ready for release in 4K this year after a premiere at Beyond Fest. Originally directed by & starring martial arts actor John Liu in his only American production, New York Ninja was filmed entirely on 35mm in 1984, but the project was abandoned during production resulting in all original sound materials, scripts, and treatments going missing. 35 years later, Vinegar Syndrome acquired the original unedited negative and painstakingly completed the film. Now with the voices of Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Linnea Quigley, Michael Berryman, Vince Murdocco, Matt Mitler, Leon Isaac Kennedy, Ginger Lynn Allen, and Cynthia Rothrock. A sound technician for a news station becomes a vigilante ninja in NYC after his pregnant wife is murdered. Restored in 4K from the original camera elements,...

"You will not win." Lionsgate has released the first official trailer for an international spy thriller titled Legacy of Lies, from Dutch director Adrian Bol. This will be available to watch on VOD later this summer for those who want to watch it. Scott Adkins stars as Martin Baxter, an ex-MI6 agent who is thrown back into the world of espionage and high stakes to uncover the shocking truth about operations conducted by unknown secret services. Martin finds himself in the crosshairs of both UK and Russian intelligence, with a threat on his family putting even more pressure on him to deliver. Also starring Anna Butkevych, Honor Kneafsey, Andrea Vasiliou, Martin McDougall, Matt Mitler, Marco Robinson, Victor Solé, and Yuliia Sobol. This looks like every other spy action thriller, with all the same warehouses and underground bunkers and colorful bars where Kgb agents appear. And the "movie trailer guy" voiceover in this is so bad.

Some films are built from Wtf moments. Case in point: I have finally seen The Mutilator (1984), an unnaturally entertaining hack ‘em up from a period when the dirt had all but covered the coffin of the overworked subgenre. And this film has more than its share of Wtf – in fact, it acts as a Viking funeral for slashers of the era, an absurd catalogue of tropes transmitted with an ‘80s sitcom aesthetic and just as eager to please. What a sight to behold.
Aka Fall Break (a name that will be seared onto your brain pan within the first 15 minutes, trust me), The Mutilator was filmed in North Carolina by local boy Buddy Cooper, who came into some money and decided to either make a movie or buy a winery. And old Buddy boy sure made the right choice – no wine could be sweeter (or more fragrant) than this glorious display of splatter cinema.

If you are a fan of slasher films, the beauty is that there are plenty to see. Not just the recent ones, but a vast history of films that span decades, and some many of us haven’t had the chance to see yet. One of those for me was The Mutilator, which has recently had the Arrow Video Blu-ray treatment…
Years after accidentally killing his mother while cleaning his father’s guns, Ed Jr. (Matt Miller) and his friends take a vacation at his father’s beach house. With signs that Big Ed (Jack Chatham) has been around they give it little though, but at the teenagers start to disappear, the teenagers soon work out that everything is not all as it seems.

Genre fans have a quiet week of home entertainment releases ahead of them as February 16th features only a handful of horror and sci-fi Blu-ray and DVD offerings. That being said, cult and classic horror film fanatics should be ecstatic with several of the Blus coming out on Tuesday, including The Vincent Price Collection III, The Mutilator, Curse of the Faceless Man and My Science Project, featuring none other than the legendary Dennis Hopper.
Other releases this week include Estranged and Riddle Room.
Curse of the Faceless Man (Kino Lorber, Blu-ray)
Entombed for eons and turned to stone... the Volcano Man of 2,000 years ago stalks the earth to claim his woman! A team of archeologists, led by Dr. Paul Mallon (Richard Anderson, TV’s The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman) excavates a perfectly preserved faceless man of stone encased in lava from a site at ancient Pompeii.

★★☆☆☆ 'By sword, By pick, By axe, Bye bye'. So goes the tagline of Buddy Cooper's all-but-forgotten slasher, The Mutilator, an effective subtitle for a film that can't decide whether it's a black comedy or straight horror, and ends up being little of either. Originally titled Fall Break, The Mutilator is framed with a prologue that sees a young boy accidentally kill his mother while playing with his father's shotgun. The story then jumps forward in time, and while the incident drove the boy's father to alcoholism, it has had apparently no ill effects on his son, Ed (Matt Mitler), who seems content to rack up high scores on 'Video Machine' with his friends. A trip to his beach house is instigated by an unexpected call from his father, who is mysteriously absent when they arrive.

Virginia Obscura is a slasher film from first time director Toby Osborne. This title has recently completed production and some promotional material for the film has been released: a movie poster and still. The graphic hints at the film's premise. The tagline states: "a pinhole of light can expose the darkest secrets." That pinhole allows a minor character to see the tortuous deeds of a hurt young woman. Her mother was raped by four men and one of these men is her father. A DNA test will provide some truth and put these dark secrets to rest, forever. As well, four move stills have been released for the film. The most interesting photo is hosted below. In the still, a killer is shown, a henchman of the young woman. View both graphics here, with Virginia Obscura set for release in the Summer of 2013. Release Date: Summer 2013. Director/writer: Toby Osborne.

If the writer’s goal was to form a near pointless illogical plot just for the sake of slasher filler, they certainly accomplished their goal! I viewed this for a second time after only seeing a cut version. The uncut version is slightly better but did not redeem how ridiculous this was. This was released through popular 1980s distributor Vestron in 1985. They had a tendency to release anything and everything regardless of quality. I kept sitting through this movie anxious for it to be over! The original title for this movie was “Fall Break.”
The plot starts multiple years prior to the present day. Ed, Jr. (Trace Cooper) accidentally killed his mother with a shot gun. The Dad comes and acts truly bizarre trying to murder his son. He also has a drink and tries to give it to his dead wife. This is one...

Almost one year ago, when we launched at Big Daddy, one of our first posts was about 10 horror films in need of a DVD or Blu-Ray release. The Nesting and Twice Dead which both made the list are now either out on DVD or about to be released. Other titles that made the list included The Pack, Night Warning, Massacre at Central High, Dance of the Damned, Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, Deadly Blessing, The Kindred and Killer Party. With this second annual edition, we hope to spotlight more horror films that have fallen through the cracks. Titles that haven't been released beyond VHS (with the exception of one, that has only been released to VOD) that need the attention of us horror fans and distributors to make these titles readily available for our horror movie watching enjoyment.

I’ve remarked a couple of times on the site in the past that there’s little to no reference sources online for the first two New York Underground Film Festivals, held in 1994 and 1995. The official Nyuff website has had its archives offline for, I think, over a year now. If you go to their site, they simply direct you to what’s available on the site Archive.org. (And, from my own experience, it’s a safe bet not to assume your stuff will be on Archive.org forever — it can really vanish at any minute.)
At Archive.org, the Nyuff archives only go back to 1996. I don’t know if the fest had a web presence those first two years or not, but whether they were ever there, the optimum point is that they’re not there now and probably never will be. And my own personal assumption...

With such titles as Trick or Eat or Scream Queen Campfire, Moody is tapping into the nostalgic side of horror, but presenting it in a very modern format.
