Exclusive: Synchronicity Films is adapting Hanif Kureishi’s The Body as a series with the novelist and screenwriter on board as an exec producer and Emmy-nominated director Paul McGuigan attached. There are scripts from crime writer Robert Murphy and the producers will relocate the action from the UK to the U.S. for the series.
Scottish-based drama producer Synchronicity is working on the Kureishi project in the wake of making The Tattooist of Auschwitz, which has launched strongly in the UK, the U.S. and internationally
The book and series were inspired by the memories of Jewish Slovakian Holocaust survivor Lali Sokolov, and follow a love story between him and Gita. The couple met while they were prisoners in Auschwitz. The TV drama is based on Heather Morris’ novel, which has returned to the New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller lists since the launch of the series.

WARNING: Season 4, Episode 4 spoilers ahead
The fourth episode of “The Boys” Season 4 has landed, and it's already being regarded as the best of the season so far. With a stellar 9.1 star rating on IMDb, the episode titled “Wisdom of the Ages” has fans buzzing about its shocking twists and turns. The episode centers around Vought's new show "Truth Bomb" hosted by the supe Firecracker (Valorie Curry). While the Boys attempt to blackmail Firecracker, she outmaneuvers them by leaking the details herself. Having turned the tables, she then calls out Starlight (Erin Moriarty) with another shocking allegation.
Meanwhile, A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) goes snooping around Homelander’s apartment, snatching a vial of Compound V and coming face-to-face with Ashley (Colby Minifie), who’s also doing some creeping of her own. Both are putting themselves at considerable risk, as Homelander (Antony Starr) has been on a rampage killing Vought employees.
One of the more gripping storylines involves Butcher's (Karl Urban) deteriorating health condition. With a mysterious worm-like creature burrowing into his brain, speculation is rife that his previous use of Compound V has given rise to a sentient illness. The parallels to the animated "Diabolical" spin-off series could hint at darker consequences ahead.
Meanwhile, the supe-killing virus fans first saw in “Gen V” raises concerns about its potential impact on newly powered characters like Hughie's father (Simon Pegg). If released, the virus may strip their abilities or lead to fatal outcomes. The episode's closing moments suggest Hughie's mother slips his father Compound V after Hughie gets cold feet.
As of this writing, “Wisdom of the Ages” is the third-highest rated episode of the series on IMDb. The top-rated episode is Season 3’s “Herogasm” at 9.6/10, followed by the Season 2 finale “What I Know” at 9.4. The high rating for the mid-season episode is a good sign for the season’s progression, as the first three episodes’ average of 7.6 was well below the overall series average of 8.7.

Spoilers for "The Boys" season 4 follow.
Homelander (Antony Starr) is the face of evil supes on "The Boys," but this bloody journey started with Reggie Franklin, a.k.a A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). The Seven is an overt parody of the Justice League, and A-Train is a proxy for The Flash, a "speedster" who can run faster than time itself.
Episode 1 of "The Boys" — "The Name of the Game" — shows how dangerous that power would be. A-Train, running through the streets of Manhattan, collides with Robin (Jess Salgueiro) and reduces her to a mist of blood and gore. Her grieving boyfriend, Hughie (Jack Quaid), signs up with Billy Butcher's (Karl Urban) anti-supe crusade because of A-Train's actions and the paltry recompense (including a phoned-in "apology") he offers.
Since then, though, A-Train has become one of the more humanized supes on the show. He's definitely not as good as Starlight...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers from episode 4 of “The Boys” Season 4, currently streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
This season of “The Boys” continues to outdo itself in gross-out moments, and episode 4 has plenty of them — like an ice-pick lobotomy, a lasered-off penis and flame-broiled scientist.
The episode begins with Homelander (Antony Starr) returning to his roots and revisiting the underground laboratory where he was violently tested on as a super-powered child. He gets revenge on the Vought scientists by putting them through the same torture he endured. One unlucky person gets trapped in an oven and burnt to a crisp; another is forced to masturbate in front of his colleagues before Homelander shoots an eye-laser through his penis and kills him. The psychotic supe learns more about the torment Vought performed on him as a kid, and he ends the episode covered in blood and surrounded by the scientists’ mutilated bodies.

More than a decade after the 2011 release of Steven Spielberg’s criminally underrated The Adventures of Tintin hit theaters, fans of Hergé’s beloved characters continue to wonder if we’ll ever see a sequel. Andy Serkis, who voices Captain Archibald Haddock and Sir Francis Haddock in the 2011 original, says Tintin producer Peter Jackson is still working on another film featuring the dynamic duo of Captain Haddock and Tintin. In October 2011, Peter Jackson said he would direct The Adventures of Tintin 2. However, the silence on the project has been deafening ever since.
Originally, Steven Spielberg wanted to release The Adventures of Tintin 2 in 2015, but the legendary filmmaker’s schedule had other plans. At the time, Spielberg said a follow-up to the 2011 animated film would adapt two books in the Tintin saga. Screenwriter Anthony Horowitz was reportedly working on a screenplay but left the project in 2018. Jackson and Spielberg have yet...

Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 and since the Star Wars Universe as a whole has consistently gone on to disappoint fans. While there have been some brilliant entries, the majority of them have been a massive disappointment, given how all of them have treated George Lucas’ legacy. But the cherry on top has been The Acolyte, Disney’s latest series in the franchise, which is being deemed by many as the worst thing that ever happened to the Star Wars universe.

Seeing the series’ reception, certain critics, like before, have been blaming the toxic fandom and anti-feminists for The Acolyte‘s failure. However, fans have had enough and declared that their problem isn’t with female-led stories but with Disney!

Being recognized as one of the best comedy performers of the 21st century, Simon Pegg made his name known worldwide with his collaboration with Edgar Wright. It brought us such gems as Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World's End (2013).
However, the comedian is also very much of a thriller actor. The 2020 controversial movie that is now conquering Netflix’s global top is no exception, as Pegg plays a much darker and complex character here.
The thriller starts by introducing us to a powerful family whose loving husband and father Archer passes away all of a sudden. His wife and two children are left not only with his money, but also with a bunch of his secrets that he took to the grave.
Surprisingly, Lauren, the elder daughter, finds out that Archer left a special message for her. That’s why she finds a secret underground bunker on...

In the era of streaming wars and AI challenges, very little can surprise the audience when the dystopian vision of humanity being overtaken by artificial intelligence is already prevalent in the atmosphere. In such a dark world, The Boys shines more brilliantly than ever due to its bloody, gore-filled, gross, and obnoxiously salacious content – because such a creation could only be born from the unbridled morbid imaginations of a human mind.
The Boys [Credit: Prime Video]However, every brilliant creation has a time of its own – too early for the public eye, and it’s censored into the darkest pits of Hollywood; too late and it becomes redundant for the moviegoing audience. The Boys, on the other hand, arrived just in time as Superhero fatigue was rampant in the industry and a satirical critique of that particular genre worked like a perfect salve for the masses.
But, the situation could have gone awfully...

Starring as the premier action hero who commands a global reputation, Tom Cruise built upon an undeniable chunk of it from his role as Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible series. The spy-thriller regularly increased its stakes as it went from one installment to the next with an overarching plots that only dialed up its intensity and tone, coming a long way from its start back in 1996.

A notable trend that happened with almost every next movie in the series was an expanding runtime. The need to fit a large narrative within a stipulated duration is a daunting task. For the franchise to meet its goal of delivering high-quality action and thrill without unnecessarily keeping the audiences waiting, took an occasional toll. One such time was its seventh iteration, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, starring Henry Cavill.

Prime Video’s bloody, diabolical superhero series is back for its penultimate season and it’s going to be one of unrest. Here’s our review of the first three episodes of The Boys season 4.
Spoiler warning! These reviews are spoiler-free for the week in question, but will discuss previous seasons and episodes in detail.
The Boys season 4, which debuts on Prime Video today, is somewhat overshadowed by the announcement that Eric Kripke’s popular superhero series is coming to an end with season 5. It’s almost impossible to look at the new episodes without focusing on how they contribute to the finale, the swan song of the entire series.
Season 3 ended on an explosive note as Homelander (a never-better Anthony Starr) blasted one of Starlight’s followers with his laser eyes, killing them. To his – and our – surprise, the crowd didn’t fear him, there was no panic. Instead,...

British filmmaker Peter Chelsom became obsessed with photography at the age of 13 after his father gifted him a Kodak Retinette 1B camera for his birthday. “Suddenly everything became photography,” says the veteran director of films like 2001’s Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale and the 2004 Jennifer Lopez-starrer Shall We Dance. “I was obsessed with it. And that’s why I became a filmmaker.”

In 2022, Paramount announced that filming on the new Star Trek movie would begin at the end of that year, with all of the main actors expected to return to work. The last film in the series was released in 2016, and due to its poor box office performance, the franchise went on hiatus.
All the while, Paramount was trying to figure out what to do next. Among other things, the studio wanted to give Quentin Tarantino a chance to make his own R-rated Star Trek film. It never went into production, but details about the movie are still emerging.
Tarantino Expressed His Desire to Make a Star Trek Movie in 2015
In late 2015, Quentin Tarantino was asked if he would make a Star Wars movie. The director said that Star Trek was closer to his heart. In his opinion, many episodes of the classic TV series can easily be expanded to fit the length of the movie.

June 6, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France. Code-named Operation Overlord, it marked the largest amphibious invasion in military history and resulted in the defeat of German Nazi forces at Reims.
Some films portray the soldiers who set foot on the shores of Normandy, portrayed by actors including John Wayne, Tom Hanks, Mark Hamill, Lee Marvin, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, Tom Sizemore, Ted Danson, Paul Giamatti and more. Others focus on Winston Churchill, who made the call for Britain to join the invasion. Two Churchill biopics, starring Brian Cox and Gary Oldman, came out in 2017 and depict the strenuous decision the prime minister made.
For those looking for TV shows about the operation, Band of Brothers starring Scott Grimes, Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston is a must-watch. HBO’s miniseries about Easy Company also features Andrew Scott, James McAvoy, Colin Hanks, Simon Pegg,...

When Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg first showed up on our screens back in the day, he earned a lot of fans through the fact that he was a celebrity-on-the-rise who had “geeky” interests and embraced “geek culture.” There’s a quote from him bouncing around where he said, “Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.” He even titled his memoir Nerd Do Well… But last year, he distanced himself from his past self, writing off nostalgia as a neurological disorder and telling The Guardian, “I’ve aged out of a lot of what people assume I’m about.

2023 saw quite a few masterpieces (even though the box office disasters were more), and Godzilla Minus One was one of them.
Besides the tremendous critical praise it has earned from global audiences and critics, the movie seems to have gotten on the good side of quite a few celebrities in Hollywood as well. One of these is the Star Trek actor, Simon Pegg.

However, as compared to other notable reviewers, Pegg seemed to have a mixed opinion on the movie and the MonsterVerse.
This is because, on the one hand, while he greatly acknowledged the gem of a work that the film was, bringing about a new take on the Kaiju and its relationship with humans, he simultaneously also hinted that the MonsterVerse is “f—ing cultural appropriation.”

Tom Cruise has been known to do his own stunts even well into his older years. But his physical work is so impressive that it’s even gotten praise from some veteran stuntmen.

Cruise has been interested in doing physical stunts even long before he was a movie star. Speaking at the premiere of Top Gun Maverick, Cruise explained how he used to orchestrate his own stunts when he was a kid.
“I think I was about 4½ years old, and I had this doll, and you throw it up in the air and a parachute comes down. I played with this thing, and I’d throw it off a tree, and I was like, ‘I really want to do this.’ I remember taking the sheets off my bed, and I would tie a rope … and...

In Simon Pegg’s immortal comedy series Spaced, his character Tim declares: “Every odd-numbered Star Trek movie is shit.” This is, of course, hilarious today, because Pegg was in two odd-numbered Trek films, and even co-wrote the 13th movie, 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. But, the fandom myth of the odd-numbered Star Trek “curse” almost certainly begins with 1984’s Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Released in movie theaters on June 1, 1984, the third Star Trek feature film was really the second part of what would become a trilogy of films, concluding with The Voyage Home in 1986. But, more than that, The Search for Spock was a pivotal moment in which the more mature aesthetic of Star Trek truly came into its own. Despite the unkind things said about The Search for Spock over the years, the truth is, the movie is perhaps more representative of the franchise as a whole...

Back in 2004, the world saw Simon Pegg-starring hit movie that paved the way for all modern zombie comedies. Indeed, Shaun of the Dead was so influential for the genre that the tropes used in it can be found in a number of other zom-coms, such as Jesse Eisenberg’s Zombieland (2009) and Nicholas Hoult’s Warm Bodies (2013).
Pegg’s comedy managed to become classics of the 21st century, and it’s proved by its 92% Tomatometer. The 2019 comedy that is now holding the seventh place in HBO’s global top was not so successful, even though it seems to stick to the same formula.
The film is set in a small peaceful town, where something obscure starts happening one seemingly usual night. The dead are about to rise from their graves and terrorize the locals, who don’t know how to confront the danger of numerous zombie attacks.

For those lucky enough to have experienced this, think back to how you first managed to get your dream job. The painstaking process of gathering enough relevant experience over the years, looking for open positions, and sending out résumés to whomever will take them -- not to mention all the rejections along the way -- can turn even the best and most optimistic of us into cynical grumps. Actors, for all the glitz and glamor we see from the outside looking in, oftentimes have to suffer through similar moments of heartbreak over and over again. Not all actors, however, are Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

We were first introduced to William Brandt in 2011's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Played by Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner, it was widely reported when he was cast that the actor was being eyed to take over the franchise from Tom Cruise.
The Bourne Legacy's poor performance the following year is rumoured to have led to those plans being scrapped, as did Cruise deciding he wanted to stick around as Ethan Hunt after all.
Renner did, however, return for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, only to have disappeared by the time Fallout rolled around (it was briefly mentioned that the character "retired").
Talking to Collider (via ActioNewz.com) about Mayor of Kingstown season 3, Renner elaborated on his departure from the Mission: Impossible franchise, and it sounds like he was the one who chose to walk away from the popular action franchise.

Update: We've since heard that the report from The Mirror may be incorrect. Original story follows:
Plans once called for Mission: Impossible 8 to be shot back-to-back with Dead Reckoning - Part 1; however, the eighth instalment was also originally titled Dead Reckoning - Part 2, only for that to change when the first half underperformed at the box office.
The sequel has since suffered a series of setbacks. Shooting began in March 2022 and was halted last July as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Work resumed this March and, right now, the idea is for Mission: Impossible 8 to be released next May.
However, according to a new report from The Mirror (via ActioNewz.com), the movie has been hit by further delays courtesy of...a malfunction with a submarine set that's cost the production a whopping $23 million.
According to the site, "Sources say the gimbal, which is used to lower the 120ft-high structure,...

In the world of blockbuster entertainment and critical success, no one rivals the mastery of Steven Spielberg. Notwithstanding the technical ingenuity of James Cameron and the interstellar scientific imagination of George Lucas, Spielberg stands – to this day – as the only Hollywood director to spread out his wings across (almost) every genre and master it without leaving any room for doubts.

‘If you see one movie this summer, see Star Wars. If you see a second, see Austin Powers.’ Thus spake trailer-man, in the teaser for Mike Myers’s upcoming comedy sequel, and to a great extent, that’s exactly what happened in the summer of 1999. Well, almost.
The 20th century was running out of time and that summer was impatiently filled with as many tantalising prospects as any big movie season in recent memory. It appeared to be the summer of comebacks. Following Terrence Malick’s long-awaited return to directing in the recently-released The Thin Red Line, Summer ’99 would see not only George Lucas but Stanley Kubrick making their much-delayed encores – though we knew by then that this was actually Kubrick’s swan song.
An exercise in peak-nostalgia seemed inevitable, but the season proved to be full of surprises. None more so than the success of that second Austin Powers film,...

Zombies are among the most favorite horror creatures ever shown in movies. It’s something about those undead creatures that just continues inspiring the filmmakers and attracting fans. And it doesn’t matter how scary or unpleasant they look.
The zombie genre lives on its own, and it doesn’t lie within specific characteristics. It can be a horror movie, a thriller fantasy, but what's more interesting is when a zombie feature is actually a comedy.
There are many movies that make use of this combo, like Army of the Dead or Warm Bodies, but there’s one specific movie that, despite being released 20 years ago, still holds tha title of the best zombie comedy.

Before we start, we inform you that this is just a rumor from an insider source and there is no proof for the same. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s start with the Geisha facial. The facial cream is made from bird droppings from a nightingale and other natural ingredients,...

Katherine Waterston, Simon Pegg, Minnie Driver, Cush Jumbo, Rose Williams and Miriam Margolyes are to star in UK filmmaker Rob Sorrenti’s debut feature Angels In The Asylum.
Parkland Pictures is representing sales on the film, which was inspired by a BBC Newsnight exposé on 50 women who were incarcerated in isolation at Surrey’s Long Grove Asylum, a former hospital for the mentally ill, because they were typhoid carriers, starting in 1907.
The UK shoot is set to begin in early 2025 around the Kent area, with Heather Greenwood, Marie-Elena Dyche and Charlotte Carey producing.
James Friend will be the film’s cinematographer.

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise has given fans many remarkable and unforgettable characters over the years, whether they are the protagonists or the antagonists. While each character has made their mark on the franchise, fans obviously have their favorites picked out and Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust has a long list of admirers behind her.
Tom Cruise in a still from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023)
Unfortunately, Ilsa met her demise in the latest installment in the franchise, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Needless to say, fans were absolutely heartbroken including the writer of The Fall Guy, Drew Pearce, who also worked on Rogue Nation’s story. Ilsa’s death took the writer back to his time on Rogue Nation where for a brief moment he contemplated killing off an important character whose death would’ve sent fans into a frenzy.

The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont opened up about meeting fantastic people in a callous industry like the film industry during a 2014 interview. He hated that the tabloids painted a bad picture of an actor like Tom Cruise without getting the full picture of how he is in real life. Darabont shared that people should ask his good friend Simon Pegg about the kind of human the Mission: Impossible actor was.

Darabont’s positive comments about the actor suggested that he had no bad blood against Cruise for rejecting The Shawshank Redemption. Cruise was one of the frontrunners for the role of Andy Dufresne before Tim Robbins was cast in the film.

[This story contains spoilers for The Fall Guy.]
After the many industry-wide challenges of the last four years, The Fall Guy screenwriter Drew Pearce just wanted to make a feel-good Friday night movie, and based on various metrics, the consensus among critics and audiences is that he and the rest of his collaborators succeeded. In ten years, the social framing around the David Leitch-directed movie won’t be that it opened to $27.7 million instead of a projected $30 million. Rather, the impression of a good action romcom will remain above all.
Pearce is no stranger to IP-driven films, as he’s officially written for Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3, the fifth Mission: Impossible film, Rogue Nation, as well as the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw. That also doesn’t include all the cups of coffee he’s had with other franchises in an uncredited capacity. So, compared to the aforementioned IP, the assumption is that The Fall Guy,...

Chris Pine was taken by surprise when news hit that Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” had signed on to write the script for “Star Trek 4.” Why? “I thought there was already a script,” the actor recently told Business Insider during an interview on his “Poolman” press tour.
Pine’s not wrong, as a potential “Star Trek 4” has gone through multiple iterations in the years since the 2016 release of “Star Trek Beyond.” Pine took on the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 franchise reboot “Star Trek,” and reprised the character in 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” and 2016’s “Beyond.” Variety exclusively reported in March that Paramount Pictures remained committed to making a fourth “Star Trek” film to be headlined by Pine and his co-stars.
The actor’s fellow “Star Trek” cast members include Zachary Quinto (as Cmdr. Spock), Zoe Saldaña (as Lt.

The Boys Season 4: Meet the New Characters and Supes - Main Image
The Boys season 4 is returning to Prime Video in June! Considering that new characters are joining the official cast, here are all the new The Boys season 4 characters and supes coming in.
Content Spoilers: This article contains spoilers for Prime Video's The Boys season 4, proceed with caution.
Two of the newest and hottest supes coming in The Boys season 4 are Firecracker and Sister Sage, as previously teased with their costume designs:
Valorie Curry as Firecracker
Valorie Curry plays the redheaded Firecracker who joined Homelander on stage in the official The Boys season 4 trailer.
Based on what's been teased, Firecracker is likely replacing Starlight in The Seven to be used as a younger and sweeter kind of hero than Starlight was.
Firecracker, as her supes' name suggests, can use pyrokinesis in some form, which could explain the weapons on her sash.

In today’s cinematic world Jonah Hill is presumably the main young comedy actor of the 21th century, with his iconic roles in such comedies, as The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) and Superbad (2007) and the notorious 21 Jump Street dilogy.
What if we take his comedic talent, give his character a funny companion, just like in 21 Jump Street, and let them do unbelievably crazy things in a heated setting? We’ll receive the 2016 comedy, which is also based on real-life events.
The movie’s plot revolves around two troublesome arms dealers, Efraim Diveroli (played by Hill) and David Packouz (Miles Teller), who are sent to the Middle East to supply ammunition for the Afghan National Army during the Iraq War by a U.S. Army contract.
It may sound boring, however, be sure there are lots of high-class jokes impeccably delivered through Hill’s and Teller’s performances. Their buddy chemistry is obvious,...

William Shatner recently told Canadian Press that he wouldn’t rule out returning as Captain Kirk in a new “Star Trek” project if the script impressed him. While the actor’s age might pose an issue as Shatner turned 93 years old in March, that’s nothing a bit of de-aging technology couldn’t fix.
“It’s an intriguing idea,” Shatner said about returning as Kirk. “It’s almost impossible. But if was a great role and so well-written and if there were a reason to be there not just to make a cameo appearance, but if there were a genuine reason for the character appearing, I might consider it.”
Shatner suggested that he could play a younger version of the Starship Enterprise captain through de-aging technology, similar to how 80-year-old Harrison Ford turned up as a much younger Indiana Jones (circa the character’s age in “Raiders of the Lost Ark...

The most famous Pennywise actor, Bill Skarsgård, has already made his name as a brilliant horror performer while starring not only in the two It movies, but also in the chilling series Hemlock Grove (2013–2015) and Castle Rock (2018–2019).
Continuing his major career trend, he also took part in a smaller-scale project, which didn’t suffer from its modest budget at all. On the contrary, it received lots of hype and even now, two years after its release, it is holding the second place in Netflix’s chart.
The movie’s plot revolves around the haunted house, and this trope is obviously used in an enormous number of horrors. However, here the monster, typically hiding in the basement, doesn’t turn out to be the main evil, damaging the characters the most.
It starts by showing Tess (played by Georgina Campbell), who arrives at a rental house in Detroit to find it...

Tramell Tillman — the actor who broke out in popular Apple series Severance — has landed a role in the eighth Mission: Impossible film.
Tillman will join fellow franchise newcomers like Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham, along with Mission vets that include Henry Czerny, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff and Vanessa Kirby. Plot details (including what character Tillman will be playing) are being kept under wraps.
Star Tom Cruise is producing the Paramount and Skydance film with director Christopher McQuarrie. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Chris Brock are executive producing.
In Dead Reckoning Part One, the last Mission film to hit theaters, Cruise returned as Imf agent Ethan Hunt, a role he originated in the 1996 film based on the popular television series and he has carried over films that have collectively crossed some multiple billions at the global box office. With "Avengers: Endgame" behind us and Chris Evans having retired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe until further notice, we can all agree that "Captain America: The First Avenger" is the best Steve Rogers solo film, right? From its character work to its action sequences and a rousing score by the legendary Alan Silvestri, director Joe Johnston's WWII adventure is a top-tier MCU movie. While it may lack the visceral melees that the Russo Brothers brought to its sequels, "The First Avenger" delivers more than enough whiz-bang thrills and Brooklyn attitude to make up the difference (that and its politics are much less confused than those of "The Winter Soldier").
Johnston's superhero picture also boasts what is still one of the McU's most distinguished casts, pairing Evans with Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, and Dominic Cooper. Even Natalie Dormer, David Bradley,...

"Star Trek Beyond" might be the best "Mass Effect" movie we ever get. The shiny Yorktown station, with city sprawls built along the surface of spinning, gravity-manipulating rings, is a dead ringer for the Citadel. The film's villain — Krall (Idris Elba) — leads an army of robots, "The Swarm," much like Saren Arterius employing the cyclopean robot Geth in the first "Mass Effect."
Krall's army destroys the Enterprise in the first act of "Beyond," leaving the crew stranded on planet Altamid. Though Krall made his home on this world, he isn't a native. No, he's really Balthazar Edison, once the (human) captain of the Starfleet ship the U.S.S. Franklin. After the Franklin crashed on Altamid in the 22nd century, rescue from the Federation never came and Edison became disillusioned.
He and his surviving crew found abandoned technology, including his Swarm army and the life-draining devices they've sustained himself with.

Hey, Edgar, you’ve got red on you. Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright had quite a task ahead of him in making his breakout hit, but he probably didn’t bank on a horde of zombie extras going full Romero on him. But that’s just what happened during production of the classic zom-com, something he may have inadvertently prompted himself.
In a new oral history via IndieWire, Edgar Wright recalled that he had some additional sound work to get done to add to the zombification of the citizens of London, with one extra going a bit too far with his contributions. “We were taking a sound recording because we needed zombie noise, just audio only. I was sort of conducting them, and in one take, I said, “Ok, come in and attack me!” And of course, they all did and maybe because they felt so cooped up...

It lasts roughly a minute and consists of only a handful of shots (and none of Edgar Wright’s trademark visual wizardry), yet the moment in Shaun Of The Dead when Simon Pegg’s hapless hero and his group of survivors round the corner and bump into another group is possibly the film’s most ambitious gag. Mainly because the other gang is played by a who’s who (then and now) of British comedy: Martin Freeman, Reece Shearsmith, Tamsin Greig, Spaced mainstay Julia Deakin, Matt Lucas and, at the vanguard, Pegg’s Spaced co-creator, Jessica Hynes. A finer cavalcade of cameos, you’ll never see.

Zoe Saldaña was asked on an upcoming episode of The Playlist’s “Discourse” podcast if she was “done” playing Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy has ended. Gunn has moved on to DC, and some of Saldaña’s co-stars like Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) have vowed that “Vol. 3” was their last “Guardians” movie.
“I mean, so far, I think that she is [gone for good] for me, but I don’t think Gamora has gone for good,” Saldaña answered, suggesting she is not interested in playing Gamora again at this time but certainly the character still exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its sprawling multiverse.
“I would think it would be a huge loss for Marvel if they didn’t find a way to bring back the Guardians of the Galaxy,” Saldaña said. “It’s just such a fan-favorite group of misfits,...

Tom Cruise’s new movie, Mission: Impossible 8, is in the process of being filmed, and the sequel to last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One promises to deliver us yet another action-packed installment. And while the release date has been pushed back a whole year, updates are coming in quickly, and we have learned that Katy O’Brian has joined the movie cast in an unspecified role, as of the time of writing.
This piece of information is definitely welcome, as O’Brian has recently received praise for playing Jackie in the romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding alongside Kristen Stewart, with Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, Dave Franco, and Ed Harris also starring. Disney and MCU fans might know O’Brian from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, appearing as Jetorra, but also from The Mandalorian, where O’Brien played the treacherous Elia Kane.
