According to executive producer Dean English, Warrior Nun is getting a second chance in the form of a trilogy of movies.
Starring Alba Baptista, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Toya Turner, Tristán Ulloa, Thekla Reuten, Sylvia De Fanti, and William Miller, Warrior Nun is based on the graphic novel by Ben Dunn. The supernatural series follows a young woman who wakes up to find herself fighting demons as part of a secret organization.
The drama series was cancelled last December after a two-season run on Netflix. In June, series creator and showrunner Simon Barry revealed that the series was being revived, but he didn’t release any details.

Back in December, it was announced that Warrior Nun, a live-action series loosely based on Ben Dunn’s manga-style comic book Warrior Nun Areala, had been cancelled after a two season run on the Netflix streaming service. Then a couple months ago, series creator Simon Barry revealed that fans’ #SaveWarriorNun campaign was resulting in the show getting an epic revival. We assumed that meant Warrior Nun season 3, possibly on Netflix, possibly at a different network or streaming service. But now executive producer Dean English has taken to the WarriorNunSaved website to clarify that Warrior Nun is actually being revived with a trilogy of feature films!
English wrote, “I’m the person who found the graphic novel and asked the dangerous question of, “What if?” First of all, I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep...

Warrior Nun will rise again.
Executive producer Dean English shared that the canceled Netflix drama will return as a trilogy of movies.
"I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures," he shared in a statement.
"Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three."
English couldn't delve into the finer details of the deal due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
"Some may ask, 'Does this perhaps infer that there's going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?'"
"The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future."
News of a revival was teased in June when series creator Simon Barry revealed the show will return.

When shows are canceled, they rarely return, but series creator Simon Barry took to social media with a wild announcement:
A comeback for the show is officially in the works.
How? We're not quite sure, ad it might be the case that we won't hear more until a deal is reached.

When shows get cancelled by one network, they often have a chance to find a new home. Sometimes it doesn’t work out (I was surprised The Winchesters wasn’t able to find a new home after being cancelled by The CW), sometimes it does… And apparently Warrior Nun, a live-action series loosely based on Ben Dunn’s manga-style comic book Warrior Nun Areala, is one of the success stories. It was announced back in December that Warrior Nun had been cancelled after two seasons on the Netflix streaming service, but now series creator Simon Barry has revealed that season 3 is going to happen – and he says it’s going to be an epic revival!
Barry shared the news on Twitter, saying, “Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts – #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more Epic than you could imagine.

Amazon Prime Video is expanding its big, global spy franchise "Citadel" with the conclusion of the show's first season. Not only is the main series — which hails from "Avengers: Endgame" directors Joe and Anthony Russo — getting a second season, but the first spin-off has officially been revealed in the form of "Citadel: Diana." What's more, the spin-off has already been filmed and is due to arrive next year.
While we won't get into spoilers here, those who watched the "Citadel" season 1 finale on Prime Video were treated to a post-credits teaser that teed up the ball for the new show, offering a look at the next chapter in the company's so-called "Spyverse." A universe that they spent an absolutely absurd amount of money on, it should be noted. Though it's also supposedly quite popular, according to the company's own calculations.

For quite a few years, a belief held sway that bereavement consisted of a series of five – or was it seven? – stages, starting with shock and moving through to acceptance, after which you were more or less home free. Of course, no human emotion runs so smoothly, grief least of all. The various members of the family in Martijn de Jong’s Narcosis feel anger, anguish and denial by turns and sometimes simultaneously, each of them cocooned in their own sac of misery, unable to say what they feel, even to themselves. Grief here is as messy and resistant to resolution as it is in real life.

“Warrior Nun,” a scrappy action-fantasy series that last month debuted its second season, has been canceled by Netflix, an individual with knowledge of the decision told IndieWire.
The series starring Portuguese actress Alba Baptista had in its short run developed a passionate fanbase online, and the show’s second season even spent three weeks on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list for English-language TV, topping out at No. 5. “Warrior Nun” creator and showrunner Simon Barry tweeted Tuesday that the show would not return on Netflix, sparking the hashtag #SaveWarriorNun to trend on Twitter.

Netflix is parting ways with Warrior Nun.
Deadline reported Tuesday afternoon that the cult favorite has been canceled after two seasons.
The second season of the series launched on November 10, but there was a lack of promotion for the series, likely contributing to the lower-than-expected performance.
Netflix had several opportunities to promote the show, including at its Tudum Global Fan Event, but the streaming service elected to let the show slip under the radar.
As a result, Warrior Nun Season 2 spent just three weeks in the streamer's weekly Top 10 for English-language series, with #5 being the peak.
The series also showed up on the Nielsen Streaming Chart for the week of November 7, with 595 million minutes viewed, coming in ahead of The Handmaid's Tale, Andor, and The Watcher for that week.

Netflix announced there was going to be a second season of their show Warrior Nun in a fun way, letting series creator / executive producer / showrunner Simon Barry break the news to cast members Alba Baptista, Toya Turner, Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young, and Olivia Delcan in a video that was shared on Twitter. Sadly, they won’t be replicating that scenario for a season 3 announcement. One month after Warrior Nun season 2 reached the streaming service, Netflix has confirmed that they will not be ordering another season of the show. Warrior Nun has been cancelled.

Warrior Nun‘s fight is over. Netflix has canceled the fantasy series after just two seasons, our sister site Deadline reports.
The cancellation news comes less than a week after Warrior Nun — with the release of its second season — landed on Nielsen’s latest U.S. streaming ranking of streaming originals. With just four days of eligibility for Season 2, Warrior Nun made its chart debut at No. 4, (distantly) trailing Manifest, The Crown and Love Is Blind.

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to order a third season of Warrior Nun. The decision was made a month after the Nov. 10 release of the fantasy drama’s second season.
Warrior Nun‘s second season ratings performance follows the pattern of other scripted series which have been canceled by Netflix as the streamer evaluates viewing vs. cost for their renewal decisions. Season 2 spent just three weeks in Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at #5. Warrior Nun has built a small yet passionate fan base, which helped it secure a second season renewal but was not enough to sustain the series in the long run.

Italy’s Coccinelle Film Sales has sealed two important European deals on Dutch Oscar bid “Narcosis,” directed by Martijn de Jong.
Coccinelle Film Sales’ CEO Francesca Breccia negotiated the agreements, with HBO Europe picking up the movie’s rights in 14 countries in Eastern Europe and Fabula Film acquiring them for Turkey.
Labelled as “a haunting and hopeful story about life, love and loss,” the movie follows a close-knit family disrupted when the father does not resurface during a professional dive. No funeral, no farewell, just a house full of memories. Burdened by the loss, Merel (Thekla Reuten) evades her husband’s death and everything related to it as her young children become entangled in a supernatural search for answers, with the family eventually confronting their grief in their own unique ways.

Narcosis, The Netherlands’ entry for the Best International Feature Oscar, mixes a cocktail of themes perhaps for the first time ever: clairvoyance, deep sea diving and grief.
Directed by Martijn de Jong and co-written with his life partner Laura van Dijk, Narcosis is about a young family that is hit by a tragedy and deals with it in a unique way. It won the Audience Award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival as well as Best Film at the Nederlands Film Festival.
Related: The Contenders International – Deadline’s Full Coverage
De Jong calls Narcosis “kind of a mirror” to his own family, “but not at all biographical.” During Deadline’s Contenders Film: International awards-season event, he told us he and van Dijk “treasure hunted” stories that were part of their lives.
“One of them is the clairvoyance which is something that my mother does. She has this ability in real life.

Martijn de Jong’s feature directorial debut, Narcosis, is off to a dream-like start as The Netherlands recently selected the Dutch drama to compete on its behalf for a Best International Feature Film nomination at the 95th Academy Awards.
Narcosis, which de Jong co-wrote with his partner Laura van Dijk, chronicles a young family that’s become rudderless after losing their patriarch (Fedja van Huêt’s John) a year earlier during a deep-sea diving expedition. While it’s not an autobiographical story, de Jong and van Dijk infused the story with plenty of personal details from their own lives. Perhaps the most notable example is that the family matriarch, Merel, portrayed by Dutch actor Thekla Reuten, is a medium, which de Jong’s own mother happens to be. Ultimately, de Jong was relieved when Reuten embraced this particular character detail since clairvoyance is often stigmatized by the Dutch.

The particular limbo of grief, perennial fertile ground for drama, receives straightforward treatment in Narcosis, but with a poetic twist. Tracing the effect of a deep-sea diver’s death on his wife and children, writer-helmer Martijn de Jong infuses a standard template of family loss with a sense of mystery. Ocean exploration and the psychic abilities of the explorer’s widow are the story’s most unusual angles, and the restraint with which de Jong treats them is one of the film’s most effective qualities. The day-to-day takes on an understated eeriness that matches the unarticulated ache of the bereaved.

Martin McDonagh’s cult hit man feature comes to 4K looking extremely good: fans of low-key black humor and droll sentimentality, kinda-like-the-Coens, kinda-like-Tarantino, love this picture. Cute characterizations from Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson & Ralph Fiennes bring light to a ‘killers with a heart’ story. It keeps us watching to see what happens next, that’s for sure. And when’s the last time that 13th century European art and architecture figured so heavily in a mob saga?

Paraguayan filmmaker Paz Encina’s “Eami” – being sold by MPM Premium – has won the top Tiger Award and a €40,000 cash prize at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), the festival announced Wednesday. The 51st edition of the Dutch event, forced online due to the Omicron wave, will wrap on Sunday.
The jury, made up of Zsuzsi Bankuti, Gust Van den Berghe, Tatiana Leite, Thekla Reuten and Farid Tabarki, was impressed with her complex, magical realist take on the suffering of the indigenous tribes, calling it a “powerful film.” “It gave us the opportunity to dream and, at the same time, a chance to wake up,” they stated.
Inspired by the stories of the Ayoreo-Totobiegosode people, as well as their mythology, Encina created a tale about a young girl who embarks on a journey after her village is destroyed.
“All my films deal with an issue of exile, of the diaspora,...
