As we await the long-gestating “Community” movie, co-stars Joel McHale and Ken Jeong are back together again on Wednesday’s new episode of McHale’s Fox comedy “Animal Control.” It also marks the return of “Kensday,” as “Animal Control” airs right after “The Masked Singer,” in which Jeong is a panelist (and McHale has been a frequent guest over the seasons).
Variety has a first look at the duo in action from tonight’s episode, as Ken Jeong guest stars as Roman Park, “a reputable (and unhinged) dog trainer.” In the story, Emily (played by Vella Lovell) hires Park to help with the kennel dogs at the precinct, but he disrupts the office dynamics and competes with McHale’s character, Frank, for the role of “Alpha.”

Fox is preparing to handle more animals. The network has renewed Joel McHale-fronted comedy Animal Control for a second season.
The move is a boon for the company’s first wholly owned live-action company, which it said was its most-streamed scripted debut of all time.
It comes after Call Me Kat was canceled after three seasons. No word on the future of Welcome To Flatch and a decision is not expected before the Upfronts next week.
The series is a workplace comedy following a group of animal control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not.
It stars McHale, who hosted Fox reality series Crime Scene Kitchen, as Frank Shaw, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department,...

Fox wants in on the broadcast comedy renaissance and is hoping that Animal Control, a single-camera comedy starring Joel McHale, will provide that bite.
As Abbott Elementary soars on ABC, NBC has a multi-camera hit in Night Court and CBS continues to scare up viewers with Ghosts, Fox is looking for its own comedy pet project, which premieres tonight.
“We believe that Animal Control is going to be the comedy that propels Fox back to the forefront of this comedy renaissance that’s currently underway. That’s why we’re going all in and giving it this huge launch because we really believe in it,” Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox told Deadline.
“I think it’s great for broadcast TV to have several comedies that people are watching and engaging in and I really believe that the majority of the audience wants to laugh right now and the more comedies are working,...

The poster suggests Frank isn’t so good at keeping the critters from attacking. As a former cop whose effort to expose corruption led to his firing from the force, Frank now leads the charge as an Animal Control officer with a cynical and curmudgeonly outlook.
