Casey Wasserman’s eponymous sports and music management company has closed a deal to acquire the longstanding talent representation and production shop Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Wasserman formally announced the transaction on Monday alongside Brillstein Co-CEOs Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman. The acquisition bolsters Wasserman verticals like marketing and content creation (Brillstein produced “The Sopranos”), and also formally puts the grandson of legendary movie mogul Lew Wasserman in the Hollywood talent fold — welcoming star clients like Brad Pitt, Florence Pugh, Adam Sandler, Tiffany Haddish, Elizabeth Olsen and the newly named Lois Lane: Rachel Brosnahan.
Brillstein leaders Pett, Liebman, Marc Gurvitz and Sandy Wernick will continue to lead their company and join Wasserman’s executive leadership team. Same for partners including George Freeman, Missy Malkin, David McIlvain, Alex Murray, Andrea Pett and Tim Sarkes, as well as 30-plus managers in New York and Los Angeles. Wasserman has finalized plans to acquire Brillstein Entertainment Partners. The entertainment management and production company run by Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman will now be under the umbrella of Wasserman’s sports marketing and talent management.
The current Wasserman clients, including but not limited to athletes and musicians, will now be able to potentially more closely participate in films, shows or related content created by Brillstein and using the IP already existing within Brillstein. The pitch to current and future clients is an exchange of services and ideas across marketing, representation, content creation and talent management arms all under one proverbial roof.
“Cynthia [Pett] and I will continue to be co-ceos and will continue to run our production company/talent management company,” co-ceo Jon Leibman told TheWrap. “We will retain our identity.”

Just over a year ago, the leadership of Brillstein Entertainment Partners — a pioneering Hollywood company founded in 1969 by talent broker icon Bernie Brillstein, who managed names like Lorne Michaels, Garry Shandling, Brad Pitt, Nicolas Cage and Mike Myers — started thinking about strategic options for their business, including a sale.
The management and production firm had been led by co-CEOs Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman since 2005, when the duo bought out the stake of executive Brad Grey and Brillstein-Grey dropped the latter name from the shingle. (Notably, the late Grey, who went on to become CEO of Paramount Pictures, took the backend interest in HBO’s The Sopranos, which had been produced by Brillstein, with him.)
Liebman, a New York entertainment attorney who joined Brillstein in 1998, says informal conversations were held in 2022 with Casey Wasserman, whose namesake company — which includes sports talent agents and a booking agency — has been on the acquisition hunt,...

Sports and music representation powerhouse Wasserman has finalized its acquisition of Brillstein Entertainment Partners, the venerable Hollywood management and production company. Terms were not disclosed. Deadline exclusively revealed the acquisition talks back in February.
Wasserman chairman and CEO Casey Wasserman and Brillstein co-CEOs Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman made the announcement. It puts Wasserman, grandson of the iconic Hollywood representative and studio chief Lew Wasserman, directly into the film and TV representation and production game for the first time. It is the second strategic alignment for Wasserman, who took over the lucrative music touring business that was once the most profitable part of the Paradigm agency, at a time when the pandemic grounded live touring revenues.
It would be the latest move in management after 3Arts made a deal with Lionsgate, and Range Media Partners linked with Automatik.
Wasserman, Pett and Liebman believe their cultures will mesh in their compatible business and staffs.

Exclusive: Actor-comedian Pete Davidson has parted ways with Brillstein Entertainment Partners, sources tell Deadline. The Saturday Night Live star, who remains repped by ICM Partners, had been at Brillstein for awhile, and his manager there, Tim Sarkes, executive produced Pete Davidson’s standup specials, Pete Davidson: Smd (2016), and Pete Davidson: Alive from New York (2020).
I hear Davidson is not taking manager meetings right now; it is unclear whether he will sign with a new management company soon.
Davidson, who started off as one of the youngest ever SNL cast members, initially only making sporadic appearances on Weekend Update, has become one of the sketch comedy’s most recognizable stars who has been making headlines with his work as well as his high-profile relationships, most recently with Kim Kardashian. It will be directed by Jason Woliner, who directed Borat 2.

Paramount Plus revealed Tuesday it is moving forward on developing TV series remakes of classic ’80s movies “Urban Cowboy” and “Flashdance,” bringing on “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien to write and direct the latter project.
Additionally, the ViacomCBS-owned streamer said during its virtual session at the Television Critics Association press tour it has put a docu-comedy series from “Mr. Show” duo Bob Odenkirk and David Cross in the works.
The “Urban Cowboy” project comes after Paramount Television Studios first set up development on a TV series based on the film of the same name at Fox in 2015, which was later scrapped. The Paramount Plus version of the show, based on the John Travolta-Debra Winger movie, goes deeper into Bud’s journey from farm to the big city in 1980s Houston and will feature iconic music from that era. James Pondsolt is directing and co-writing with Benjamin Percy.

NBC has given pilot green light to two comedies, multi-camera Jefferies, starring Jim Jefferies, from the stand-up comedian, writer-producer Suzanne Martin and Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills; and single-camera American Auto, from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Both projects hail from Universal Television where Hazy Mills and Spitzer are under overall deals.
Jefferies and American Auto both had a put pilot commitment at NBC — six years apart. Jefferies was pitched this past fall, while Spitzer and Kaplan originally teamed up and sold American Auto to NBC in 2013. The script did not go to pilot back then, and Spitzer went on to create another single-camera blue-color workplace comedy series for the network, hit Superstore, now in its fifth season. With Spitzer stepping down as Superstore showrunner last summer to focus on development under his Universal TV overall deal, he and Kaplan took a new stab at American Auto,...

Drew Goddard directed the pilot, produced by 20th Century Fox TV in association with Brillstein Entertainment Partners, which received an off-cycle pilot order in late May.
While ABC has opted not to go forward with the Nate Bargatze project, the network recently reaffirmed its commitment to moving its development process off-cycle, which the network has rebranded “second cycle.”
The Nate Bargatze comedy, penned by Bargatze, Carmichael, Katcher and Bargatze’s writing partner Dan Shaki, was originally set up at Fox during the 2017-18 development season with a put pilot commitment. It’s the end of the line for two more shows at Amazon; horror anthology series Lore and Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph-fronted comedy Forever have both been cancelled.
Neither is a huge surprise given that both shows aired back at the end 2018, but both are now officially dead, with the news emerging at TCA, where Amazon was promoting titles such as Modern Love and Carnival Row.
Lore ran for two seasons; the Valhalla Entertainment and Propagate Content series is based on Aaron Mahnke’s popular 2015-launched podcast. Falling under Amazon Originals’ unscripted division, Lore included a mix of reenactment animation, narration, and historical documents and footage to shine a light on the true story of the modern vampire legend and more.
It premiered on October 13 2017 with its second season premiering on October 19 2018.
Forever, meanwhile, ran for one season, premiering in September 2018. The show, from SNL alums Armisen and Rudolph.

Married couple June (Maya Rudolph) and Oscar (Fred Armisen) live a comfortable but predictable life in suburban Riverside, California.
For 12 years they’ve had the same conversations, eaten the same meals and taken pleasant vacations at the same rented lake house.
But after June talks Oscar into shaking things up with a ski trip, the pair find themselves in completely unfamiliar territory.
Forever is an utterly original, insightful and poignant comedy about love, commitment, and marriage, created by Emmy Award-winning writers Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard.
The trailer shows what happens to a lot of married couples: they're excited and thrilled with each other through dating and the early stages of married life and after settling into a routine, find themselves bored by the repetition.
Related: Enjoy Unlimited access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video.

Everything starts off so well for Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph in the new “Forever” trailer until things take a turn.
The new Amazon comedy series, previously simply known as the “Untitled Fred Armisen/Maya Rudolph comedy series,” follows the comedians as Oscar and June, a married couple who are in a bit of a rut. They’ve been living the suburban dream in Riverside, California, for 12 years, but June feels like there’s more to life and convinces Oscar to take a ski trip — and that’s when things change.
In the trailer above, we get a glimpse into how the couple met and their day-to-day routine. But things quickly go south as we see Rudolph running on a beach, Armisen grabbing a knife, and some sort of crazy bonfire. Let’s just say Rudolph’s June is tired of talking about butterflies.
