In the "Star Trek: The Original Series" season 3 episode "Requiem for Methuselah," the Enterprise crew has become infected with a deadly disease. They travel to a remote and presumed-uninhabited world called Holberg 917-g looking for the substances they require to make a cure. They find, living there, a mysterious aristocrat named Flint (James Daly) who lives in a posh mansion surrounded by ancient works of Earth art, alongside his attractive young ward Reyna (Louise Sorel). Flint's mansion is protected by a strange, orb-shaped robot, and an investigation finds that Flint's possessions are written in the handwriting of Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Brahms, and other notable artists. Reyna and Kirk (William Shatner) immediately take a shine to each other and play a game of pool while Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) goes looking for the desired medicine.
Flint eventually reveals that he is immortal, having learned artistic mastery in his six millennia of life.

Wait... did Victor Kiriakis depart this Earth without ensuring his heirs were provided for?
The plane crash may have been unexpected, but it doesn't sound like Victor would tear up a will without having a new one ready to take its place.
But that's exactly what appeared to have happened, and Vivian's all set to swoop in on Days of Our Lives during the week of 9-04-23. Is Victor's least favorite ex-wife going to undermine his final wishes?
Leave it to Vivian to try to get her hands on Victor's money immediately after his funeral. If she'd timed things better, she'd have interrupted the beautiful eulogies to stake her claim.
Still, her bizarre claim to be Victor's rightful heir despite his 11-year marriage to Maggie will make for one epic battle!

Lani figured out who abducted her twins, Laura confessed all about her role in Gwen's life, Jake tried to cut ties with Gabi, as Susan Banks returned with visions of Ciara.
Our TV Fanatics Jack and Christine are joined by Silvananoir1 from MyHourglass, a Days of Our Lives fan forum, to debate the reactions to Laura and if this changes how they feel about Gwen, Susan's return, and the best and worst recasts in Salem history.
Ivan kidnapped the twins for Vivian to raise. How do you rate this twist, and what do you think of Linda Dano as Vivian?
Silvananoir1: I think we all saw this coming. Very few people would hate Elani enough to do something like this. I wasn't surprised by Vivian, she's so incredibly petty. I was surprised that Ivan took it upon himself to do it without Madame's prompting.

Whenever Vivian pops up in Salem, it's guaranteed to be a wild ride.
She's usually threatening people and wreaking havoc while conducting herself like the upper-class diva she is.
But on Days of Our Lives during the week of 2-01-21, the Vivian baby-napping story took a crazy turn nobody was expecting.
Many of us guessed that Vivian was behind the disappearance of Lani and Eli's twins.
After all, nobody holds a grudge like Vivian Alamain, and Lani accidentally shot Vivian's beloved Stefan at point-blank range.
But for once, Days of Our Lives surprised us, or me anyway, when it turned out that Vivian's loyal henchman Ivan came up with this plot all on his own, and "Madam" had no clue what he was up to.
We need more surprises like this. It's no fun when we can predict absolutely everything that will happen months ahead of time.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it's the most exciting for soap fans.
During the February Sweeps period, stories come to an exciting conclusion, and new ones begin, giving viewers a ton to look forward to.
And Days of Our Lives is no exception. During the week of 2-01-21, this all-important month begins with Laura paying a visit to the Deverauxes with shocking news.
Many viewers guessed that Laura held the key to understanding Gwen's anger toward the Deverauxes, and they seem to be right.
The spoiler video includes a clip of Jennifer telling Laura that Jack is taking a paternity test and Laura commenting that she didn't think she'd ever had to tell Jennifer this.
Since Gwen insists her mother spoke to Jack about her and Jack has no clue what she's talking about, chances are Laura intercepted the mother and stopped her from talking to Jack.

Casey Moss' departure in February 2020 was a huge disappointment. Moss is one of Days of Our Lives' best actors, JJ was a severely underused character, and he didn't even get a real exit.
So his unexpected return is amazing news.

This will be a wedding to remember.

Veteran soap opera actress Marj Dusay has died.
She was 83.
Dusay has a television career that included stints on All My Children, Days of Our Lives, Guiding Light, and Santa Barbara.
Her career on the small screen spanned decades, and the actress well-known for taking over roles left behind by exiting actresses.
The actress made her TV soap debut in 1983, when she replaced Carolyn Jones as Myrna Clegg on the CBS soap, Capitol.
She was a part of the cast right up until the show was canceled.
Dusay followed up that role with one on NBC's Santa Barbara, where she took over the role of Pamela from actress Shirley Ann Field.
Pamela was Mason Capwell's mentally unstable mother, and TV fans lapped up all of the excellent storylines Dusay got to work with.
Dusay went on to work on Days of Our Lives in 1993, temporarily replacing actress Louise Sorel as Vivian Alamain.

During Dusay’s decades-long daytime career, she established herself as one of the industry’s most reliable recasts. Dusay made her suds debut in 1983 when she replaced Carolyn Jones as Washington, D.C. matriarch Myrna Clegg on CBS’ Capitol. Following that show’s cancellation in 1987, Dusay jumped to NBC’s Santa Barbara, where she took over the role of Mason Capwell’s mentally unstable mother Pamela from actress Shirley Ann Field.

Vivian was on the run, Jennifer forgave Jack. Julie got her heart after Stefan’s tragic death, and Gabi was once again out for revenge in Salem.
Our TV Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Soaps4Ever and UhSir from MyHourglass a Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate Robin Strasser’s turn as Vivian, Jennifer forgiving Jack, and Nicole keeping yet another secret on Days of Our Lives.
Vivian is gone. How would you rate Robin Strasser’s run as this iconic character?
Soaps4Ever: I prefer Louise Sorel as Vivian but I think Robin Strasser did what she could with the character. In my opinion, she wasn't given enough time to really dig her heels into the role.
I also didn't see the point in changing her hairstyle every other episode. The other Vivian did not do that and it was kind of strange.

Although Days of Our Lives overuses the back from the dead trope, it's always good to see Vivian Alamain.
Vivian is equal parts classy and conscienceless, making her the perfect soap diva. Louise Sorel made this character her own, so recasting her when Sorel wasn't available was a risky move.
It's going to take time for viewers to get Louise Sorel's version of Vivian out of their heads, but Days of Our Lives gave Robin Strasser plenty of screen time during the week of 9-2-19, and she is doing an excellent job of filling Sorel's shoes.
Vivian's re-introduction scenes were fun. She was the same witty, self-centered character she'd always been, and her connection to Jack because of the warehouse brought up some interesting questions.
Hopefully, Days of Our Lives will delve into what the warehouse was like for everyone Rolf resurrected.

She scored outrageous success with her landmark internet series Venice, now Emmy-winning actress-producer Crystal Chappell (Guiding Light, The Bold and the Beautiful) is about to bring us another web potboiler, Beacon Hill. The series, which begins streaming March 5, is set against the cutthroat world of Massachusetts politics and features lots of lesbian steam and a cast of daytime greats, including Sarah Brown (General Hospital), Alicia Minshew and Ricky Paull Goldin (All My Children), Tina Sloan and Ron Raines (Guiding Light), Melissa Archer, Jessica Morris and John-Paul Lavoisier (One Life to Live), Scott Bryce (As the World Turns) and Louise Sorel (Days of Our Lives). TV Guide Magazine caught up with the über-busy Chappell to get an exclusive preview.

1911: One of the greatest entertainers of all time, Lucille Ball, was born (100 years ago!). She died in 1989 at age 77. There are some interesting ties between Lucy and soap operas. Y&R's Melody Thomas Scott is a founding board member of the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center, which runs the Lucy-Desi Museum in Ball's home town of Jamestown, NY. The center is trying to set a world record today for “most people dressed as Lucy Ricardo in one place, at one time.” Oltl's Robin Strasser's sons, Nicholas and Benjamin, are Lucy's step-grandchildren (through Laurence Luckinbill's marriage to Lucie Arnaz). General Hospital's Maurice Benard played Desi Arnaz in a television movie (read our interview with Benard about the role here). Lucy's also made a guest appearance on The Carol Burnett Show and appeared in the "As The Stomach Turns" parody.

What if adult series were remade for children? Mad Babies anyone? Ouch! Google TV returns outnumber sales. Desperate Housewives Susan and Gabi arrested and pole dancing? Torchwood may not be an annual event for Starz. Y&R's Christian LeBlanc gives acting lessons to Good Day La reporter. True Blood star Denis O'Hare marries his partner in New York. General Hospital's Bradford Anderson talks about the "dark" future of Damian Spinelli. Former Guiding Light star Matt Bomer bares his six pack abs at EA Sports' Pro-Am. Louise Sorel blogs about her ouster from Days.

Middletown businessman to wed The Young And The Restless star (after accidentally emailing her a picture of the engagement ring)
Stephen L. Hightower II, vice president of Hightowers Petroleum, a company based in Middletown, recently purchased an engagement ring for actress Julia Pace Mitchell, who stars as Sofia Dupre on Y&R. Hightower showed off the ring to his brother and sister who work at the company, and he wanted to do the same to his other sister, Sabrina, who resides in Atlanta. So he took a picture of the ring, and sent an email.
To his girlfriend.
“I had Julia on my mind,” he said with a laugh.
As soon as he hit the “send” button, he realized he had “goofed up,” he said. He made the short drive from his office to his Middletown apartment, where his girlfriend was staying. He hoped she was in the shower and hadn’t read the email.

Daytime has a new gay heartthrob ... and someone is pissed!
Join us at 1 Pm Est as we get to know more about Sonny, and if, like me, you're still a newbie to Dool, be sure and check out our Handy Reference Guide (now updated!) to learn who's who in Salem.
1:05 Pm Est: Sami, who's still wearing that ugly pinata dress (i keep expecting to see tootsie rolls and Swedish fish fall out every time she takes a step) is upset that Bo and Hope want to put Rafe's life in danger to bring down Ej and Stefano. What is she worried about? There are plenty more "Rafe"'s out there.
Melanie and Dario Overstreet are smacking lips (literally, that's the sound) when a tragically-clothed Brady interrupts. Dario says, "Chill. I gave Melanie an alibi saying we were together."
Jennifer comes into the hospital holding a baggie with the residue...

Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), Tamara Braun (Taylor) and Bren Foster (Quinn) have been let go from Days Of Our Lives as part of the cast trimming Ken Corday mentioned in the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest. Crystal Chappell (Carly) and Louise Sorel (Vivian) were previously let go.
“It’s a bittersweet moment for me, but fortunately I have been at these crossroads before, and I’ve always rose to the challenge in everything I pursued,” Bjorlin told TVLine. “I will miss the cast and crew dearly, and they — including [executive producer] Ken Corday — will always be considered family to me. At the same time, I am excited for where this next chapter in my life takes me.”
Meanwhile, Bjorlin is reported to be working on an E! reality show with Kirsten Storms, Kelly Monaco and Farah Fath.

My, the soap world is whirling with news. On the heels of Days of Our Lives delivering pink slips to Louise Sorel (Vivian) and Crystal Chappell (Carly), TVLine has learned that Nadia Bjorlin is leaving the NBC sudser when her contract expires later this summer.
Days of Our Lives Shake-Up: John/Marlena In, Two Vets Out!

Fan favorite (and that's an understatement) Crystal Chappell (Carly) recently stunned fans when she Tweeted on her husband's (Michael Sabatino of 'Knots Landing' fame) account that she would be leaving 'Days of our Lives' later this summer when her contract expires.
The good news is that given how far ahead the show tapes Carly could remain on-screen for quite some time. Another casting shocker quickly occurred when Louise Sorel (Vivian) told TV Guide that she, too, was on her way out.
Sorel revealed in the exit interview that the much-missed Drake Hogestyn and Deidre Hall, who play supercouple John and Marlena, are coming back to 'Days' this summer.
Chappell and Sorel will be deeply missed. Carly is the one true viable threat to super-duo Bo and Hope. Vivian entertains viewers with comedy one moment and turns calculatingly evil the next.
