The Ufc returns this weekend with a rare Sunday night show as Ufc Fight Night 81 goes down in Boston, Ma with a bantamweight title fight between the surging T.J. Dillashaw and former champion Dominick Cruz.
Dillashaw has been on a high the past year and a half, having upset dominant champion Renan Barao, and beat the ex-champ again in a rematch, with a win over Joe Soto sandwiched in between the Barao fights. Dillashaw also had a highly publicized split from Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, but the bottom line is that he’s the biggest success story to come out of The Ultimate Fighter in years, and has looked great in the octagon.
However, come Sunday, he’s facing former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz – a man who never actually lost his title. Instead, he was stripped of the belt due to injury, something that has plagued him throughout his career.

Bellator
Bellator Mma returns Friday night with little to no major competition in the Mma realm. There’s no Ufc event this week, and no Wsof, which means Bellator is free and clear of any large scale North American Mma competition. Will this help their overall ratings? We’ll find out after the weekend, but they’ve got a couple of intriguing fights on the card.
In the main event, former Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren, currently the promotion’s interim bantamweight champion, looks to knock off full-fledged Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas and become the company’s first full-blown two weight class champ (he’s already sort-of that thanks to the interim title).
Pop quiz: what current Ufc fighter did Warren beat for the Bellator featherweight title in September 2010?
If you guessed recent Ufc bantamweight title challenger Joe Soto, you know your obscure fighters granted title shots.

Ufc
There wasn’t much to look forward to at Ufc 177, and that was before it lost its main event.
Originally, Renan Barao was expected to get an immediate title rematch against T.J. Dillashaw, after Dillashaw shocked the Mma world in May, upsetting Barao and taking his belt. However, while cutting weight, Barao fell ill, passed out, hit his head in the bath tub, and had to be rushed to hospital. In an interview at the Ufc 177 prelims with Joe Rogan, Barao stated he cuts about 10 kilograms of weight going into the weigh-ins, an awful lot of weight in a short time, though he blamed standing up too fast on the black-out.
With the Barao fight lost, Joe Soto, who has never fought in the Ufc but was a champion in Bellator, steps up on almost zero notice to fight Dillashaw for the belt. He was originally scheduled on the preliminary card.

Ufc
The absolute worst happened Friday evening: the main event of Ufc 177, the only fight worth watching on the entire main card save perhaps a female bantamweight fight between feuding fighters, has been lost.
Former champion Renan Barao, who was getting an immediate rematch against T.J. Dillashaw, fell ill during the weight cutting process leading into the bout, a bantamweight (135lbs) tilt, and had to be taken to hospital.
With no suitable fight on the card able to replace the main event (the co-main event, Tony Ferguson vs. Danny Castillo, has been derided as a fight that could be good, but that has little relevancy and no place at the top of a card), Ufc brass were forced to replace Barao with former Bellator featherweight champ Joe Soto, who was to make his Ufc debut during the preliminary portion of Saturday’s event.
This news is an absolute disaster for the Ufc,...
