Lou Alexander, a comedian who worked the national nightclub circuit in the U.S. and Canada in the 1950s and 1960s before becoming an agent and manager, died earlier this month in Beverly Hills. He was 91 and no details on the cause were available, according to his friend, Jeremy Vernon.
Alexander grew up as the son of a burlesque comedian who worked the Catskills in the heyday of the famed “Borscht Belt.” Young Lou became part of the act at age 10, joining him in skits.
Later, teaming with high school friend Howard Storm – who went on to direct the films Bananas, Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask, and Take The Money and Run – they worked the comedy circuit as Storm and Gale, playing rooms in the Miami area and building a cult following among national comedians who were impressed with their burlesque routines.

Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind seesaws between hilarity and melancholy as it tracks the rise of one of the great American comics. Williams committed suicide in 2014, and the central question running through Marina Zenovich’s documentary is: How could a man who made so many others so happy be battling unknowable sadness? “Every person is driven by some deep, deep, deep, deep secret,” Williams says at one point. To get at that secret, Zenovich, who’s previously helmed documentaries about Richard Pryor and Roman Polanski, talked to many...

Don Knotts, the beloved Barney Fife of The Andy Griffith Show, was on his deathbed in February 2006, when his daughter, Karen, felt the need to run out of the room... so she could laugh. As horrific as that might sound, anyone who knew Don wouldn’t be the least bit offended to hear that response. “Here’s the thing about my dad,” says Karen in an exclusive interview. “He had this funniness that was just completely, insanely natural. When he was dying, he was making us laugh in hysterics. He was literally dying, but he did something or said something that caused my stepmother and I to go into fits of laughter, which is why I ran out. I thought to myself, ‘I don’t want to be standing there in front of this man, my dearly beloved father, who’s dying, and laughing. I was telling this story to Howard Storm,...

“Mork & Mindy” star Pam Dawber reveals Robin Williams frequently groped and flashed her on the set of the ABC sitcom, which ran for four seasons between 1978 and 1982. The revelation is found in the new book “Robin,” excerpts from which were released by The Daily Mail (via People). The biography features Dawber talking about Williams’ sexual antics on the set, but she assures fans that she “never took offense to it.”
“I had the grossest things done to me by him,” Dawber reportedly says in the book. “And I never took offense. I mean I was flashed, humped, bumped, grabbed. I think he probably did it to a lot of people…but it was so much fun.”
“Somehow he had that magic,” she says. “If you put it on paper you would be appalled. But somehow he had this guileless little thing that he would do – those sparkly eyes. He’d look at you,...

Hell is looking to be a popular location for several upcoming projects.
First up, "The Hallow" director Corin Hardy has closed a deal to direct the Mike Finch-scripted action feature "Hell Bent" for Paramount Pictures. Casting will shortly begin while the script gets a polish, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.
Dubbed 'The Dirty Dozen Goes To Hell,' the story follows a group of mercenaries imprisoned in a Brazilian jail who are murdered and led into the depths of hell by a priest who wishes to use their skills to kill Satan.
Next up, Alcon Entertainment has optioned Christian minister Howard Storm's novel "My Descent Into Death," a supernatural thriller dramatizing his personal account of his near death experience. Jinder Ho ("There") will write the film adaptation, quite different from other accounts as his is a journey through Hell.
Finally comes word that "Another Earth" director Mike Cahill is attached to helm "Doctors" for 20th Century Fox. David Goyer is producing the adaptation of the Dash Shaw graphic novel which Ben Jacoby will script.
Though not dealing directly with hell, "Doctors" will follow a group of doctors who can go into a dead person's consciousness in the form of a memory and temporarily bring them back to life. When a woman hires the doctor to bring back her mother, the act poses an unintended question: What happens when the dead don't want to return?
