A great deal can change in twelve years. Societal shifts adjust the mindset we have when consuming all aspects of entertainment. Certain approaches that previously worked will grow tired and played out. With that in mind director Phil Alden Robinson had a challenge in front of him as he is directing his first film since Sum of All Fears in 2002.
Perhaps the twelve year gap was too much of a hurdle to leap, because The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is nowhere near the quality of what you would expect from the guy who gave us wonderful films like Field of Dreams and Sneakers. Nearly every part is miscast causing each actor to be constantly at odds with their roles. Tonally...

Remaining largely under the radar despite some big names, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is hitting shelves on July 22nd. Running with a gimmick-focused plot, the film features Robin Williams as an extremely angry, unhappy man who suddenly believes he only has 90 minutes to live. That will change your perspective on things, and he tears around New York trying to manage some closure, while the doctor (Mila Kunis) who gave him the false news in retaliation to his hateful demeanor tries to track him down.
Though a film that did not win over a lot of critics, potential viewers may want to take that with a grain salt. It’s just not that sort of movie. It celebrates obnoxious, self-centered, cranky behavior in an effort to speak through hyperbole, and that’s not the kind of effort that is aimed at a wide demographic.
Keep this one on your radar though,...

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn

USA, 2014
When one thinks of comedy, one name always comes to mind. He is a man of supreme funny-man power, impeccable timing, and an almost unlimited supply of improvised genius: Robin Williams. Over the course of four decades, Williams has delighted audiences both young and old, from his wacky comedies and stand-up routines to his occasional voice-over work in animation. Though known mostly for his comedy, he is also a very talented dramatic actor. He is a man who continually surprises. Unfortunately, however, with his latest cinematic effort, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, it seems he may have run out of steam and this is unfortunate because the subject matter of this film is full of true potential.

Last year, Robin Williams had a mixed bag of film appearances that included the abysmal comedy The Big Wedding and the melodramatic historical drama Lee Daniels' The Butler. Now he's back on the big screen again this year with this silly comedy The Angriest Man in Brooklyn. Williams plays Henry, a guy who always seems to be pissed at everything, until he gets misinformation from a flustered doctor (Mila Kunis) that he has a brain aneurysm that will kill him in 90 minutes. As Henry tries to make amends with people he's hurt around the city, the doctor attempts to track him down to retract the diagnosis. Yep, silly. Watch? It feels like an inordinately long time since Robin Williams did any acting work — not that I see much of his recent work, actually — so it’s just about right that he’d be taking two prominent roles in the span of a single story. (That was a relative use of the word “right,” by the way.) Variety has pegged the actor to play Dwight D. Eisenhower in Lee Daniels‘ The Butler, and also say he’ll go back to comedic territory on The Angriest Man in Brooklyn.

While Ball has now stepped away from the director's chair for "True Blood" protégé and television vet Daniel Minahan (who came close to landing the job directing "Thor 2,") he's now found his leading lady for film in the form of the versatile Elizabeth Banks. The acting talents of Robin Williams are certainly an acquired taste, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy having their senses assaulted with performances that range from obnoxious humor in films like “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Rv” to overly sentimental Hollywood treacle like “Patch Adams." That said, Williams has taken some fine turns in dramas like “Dead Poets Society” and recently the Bobcat Goldthwaite dark comedy “World’s Greatest Dad,” so fortunately it looks like he has more in that vein in store for his next potential project. Moviehole has word that Williams is eyeing Australian writer Daniel Taplitz’s “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn” as his next project, telling Mh that “negotiations are currently underway.” The film is set to follow a man who finds out he’s suffering from a severe case of cancer that leaves him with only an hour-and-a-half of his life...

While talking to Movie Hole about the film he began to speak about another project he may work on called The Angriest Man in Brooklyn.Movie Hole had this to say about the plot:"It is the day before Thanksgiving and Henry Altman is stuck in Brooklyn traffic while on his way to a meeting. His car is suddenly struck by a taxi, which propels him into a fit of fury which he unleashes upon the taxi driver. The driver is quietly upset about this outburst and vows revenge as he speeds off."There's more to it, but I don't want to get into anything to spoilery. There's been talk lately of Williams returning to some of his older more popular characters like Mrs. Doubtfire, but I'm hoping he decides to make this his next project.

Opens: April 29th 2011
Cast: Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell, Danielle Campbell, Yin Chang
Director: Joe Nussbaum
Summary: Portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite. The new Australian film Red Dog will have its world premiere at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival, held February 10 to 21, having been selected to screen in competition as part of Generation 14plus. For those familiar with the daring work of Australian filmmaker Kriv Stenders (The Illustrated Family Doctor, Blacktown, Boxing Day, Lucky Country), it came as a surprise to learn the director was overseeing the decidedly family friendly Red Dog. Adapted by Daniel Taplitz (Chaos Theory) from the novel by Louis De Bernieres (Captain Corelli's Mandolin), Red Dog tells the story of a spirited kelpie who roamed the West Australian outback in the seventies and eighties and unites a mining community along the way.

Having directed edgy Aussie films like 2005's The Illustrated Family Doctor and 2007's Boxing Day, Kriv Stenders' latest is something a little different. Based on the renowned true story of Western Australian kelpie-cross ‘Red' and later adapted by British author Louis de Bernieres, Red Dog is the heartwarming story of an extraordinary dog, and the ordinary people whose lives he touches, uniting a mining community in the 1970s and ‘80s. Adapted from Bernieres' 1998 novel with a screenplay by Daniel Taplitz (Chaos Theory), the film follows the travels and exploits of Red, the vagabond dog who hitchhiked his way across Western Australia.

New York -- Miramax has signed on for "Muchas Gracias, Bob Oppenheimer," a period romantic drama that will be produced by Mark Gordon.
The film centers on an American serviceman in the 1960s who is sent on an appeasement mission to a fishing town in Spain after a U.S. military plane crash results in the accidental detonation of four hydrogen bombs; in addition to his role with the locals, the serviceman also embarks on a relationship.
The project draws from the true story of Palomares, Spain, where in 1966 an American B-52 bomber crashed and released more than 1,000 tons of nuclear material.
Television series creator Bob Dolan Smith ("Grace Under Fire") wrote the first draft of the screenplay, with a new draft now being written by the UTA-repped Daniel Taplitz. - The Family Stone helmer Thomas Bezucha is set to tackle the English remake of supreme French auteur Patrice Leconte's drama Man on the Train for Miramax Films. The original film (L'Homme du Train), a tale of a drifter casing a small town for a bank robbery, who befriends an elderly professor to aid him in this crime will be adapted by writer Daniel Taplitz ("Chaos Theory") and produced by Bob Cooper (The Crusaders). Problem is, actors are circling over this film; I would say "like vultures" but nobody seems that interested in this corpse. Almost no one is biting! I guess Billy Bob Thornton isn't really "nobody" but the poor guy seems like he fell off the face of the planet, right? While I envision John C. Reilly playing the bumbling, rebel wannabe, I'm more conflicted on who should play the blagger. While this isn't a buddy film per se,
