New Europe Film Sales is representing the Bel-Swe-Nor-nl co-production.
Cloudboy has won the Works In Progress award - which comes with an $11,000 (€10,000) prize - at Flanders Image’s inaugural NeXT event. The story is about a Belgian boy who connects to his Swedish mother’s Sami roots during a summer trip to Lapland.
An international industry jury said, “We really want to see the special world that director Meikeminne Clinckspoor has created. We thought producer Katleen Goossens was very well prepared with her presentation, and both she and Meikeminne also told us about the heart of the story not just the plot. The story is both original and universal and we think it will appeal to wide audiences.”
Flanders Image had invited invited 13 projects in post-production – all backed by the Flanders Audiovisual fund — to pitch to the international industry in attendance.

It’s time to give Dancing With the Stars credit where it’s due.
A few months back, as I compiled my gallery of Season 22 odds, I found it difficult to suppress my scoffs as I scrolled through a seemingly dismal lineup of celebrities. From Geraldo Rivera to Doug Flutie, it seemed as though the Season 22 roster was the ABC series’ least impressive yet, resulting in a general feeling of “meh” as the premiere approached.
Now, to be fair, Geraldo had no business stepping even his pinky toe on the ballroom floor, and Doug — though he exhibited great sportsmanship — was...

That Ina Weisse’s Der Architekt comes from the same German outfit behind much of Wim Wenders’ work should tell you one thing: this is intelligent, sharply crafted stuff. And, yep, it’s got one intelligent, sharply crafted trailer. German film tends not to travel very much for some reason but this one looks very likely to be doing the fest circuit in the coming year. Here’s the synopsis:
The successful Hamburg architect Georg Winter (Josef Bierbichler), his wife (Hilde Van Mieghem) and two grown-up children (Sandra Hüller and Matthias Schweighöfer) travel to attend Georg’s mother’s funeral in a snowy mountain village where he grew up as a child.
At the funeral the mysterious Hannah (Sophie Rois) and her son Alex (Lucas Zolgar) suddenly appear. She unearths a truth which drags the family into a vortex of desires and confusion. When a snow avalanche cuts the village off from the outside world,...
