If you've been following this blog, you know that last week was going to be something special! I was so thrilled that we got permission to use Gretchen Wilson's song "Redneck Woman." This song is my anthem, the type of song I hum around the house and that appeals to many Americans.
Well, not all Americans! It didn't play so well in Hollywood.

Bristol Palin joked she and her mother, former Republican Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, are "both" redneck women.
"I think she's a redneck woman, too," Palin told On The Red Carpet after her latest performance on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars.". "I think we both are."
Palin made the observation after hearing that her mother was "singing and dancing" along with the song "Redneck Woman" by Gretchen Wilson, which Palin danced to Monday night.
Mark Ballas, Palin's dance partner on the show, noted the country number is Palin's favorite song. Palin said the song and dance, along with video of she and Ballas during a trip to the shooting range, reveal elements of her true personality.
"I think that shows my roots and shows what I like to do, and it's not all about the spray tans and all that glitzy stuff," Palin said. "I like to be outside, be doing stuff like that.

Last week Dancing With the Stars first All-Stars season said a not-so-shocking goodbye to Pamela Anderson and her sexy wriggle. Looks like the riffraff is disappearing quicker than usual, and everyone knows the competition is stiff. Let’s continue breaking down the good, the not-so-bad and the ugly from the dance floor and see if we can predict which DWTS alums stepped it up enough to stick around another week.
The Good
Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd
Although it was Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel who scored the highest routine of the night by pulling the first 9 from the judges this season, Switched at Birth hottie Gilles Marini (don’t you dare mock my ABC Family programming obsession) showed a little more cleavage than his former Cheetah Girls competition. Man Boobs > Sparkly Lady Cleavage = Gilles Wins All The Points. Shirtlessness aside, his excited, high-kicking jive was made all the more impressive...

Toby Keith has postponed a concert because he is recovering from surgery to have his gall bladder removed. The 'Red Solo Cup' singer announced on his website that he would be "undergoing a minor medical outpatient procedure" this week. The operation has been named as gall bladder surgery, E! Online reports. The news means that Keith's Fort McCoy gig has been delayed from Thursday (August 2) until August 30, though Gretchen Wilson will still appear at this week's concert. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Keith claimed (more)...

Toby Keith should be as good as he once was in no time. But first, the country-music superstar was forced to cancel Thursday's show in Sparta, Wis., while he recovers from surgery to have his gallbladder removed. His prognosis is apparently excellent, because he'll pick right back up on Friday at the We Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minn., according to a message on his website. As for presumably disappointed ticketholders hoping to catch Keith's Live in Overdrive tour this week at Fort McCoy in Sparta, that show has been rescheduled for Aug. 30. Gretchen Wilson, who was previously scheduled, and other special guests will be performing in Keith's absence Thursday. A rep for Keith...

Kanye West turns 35 years old today, and in celebration of the self-declared king of rap…we’ve compiled a list of some of his most outrageous moments! Who can forget when he charged the stage at the 2009 MTV Music Awards during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Music Video. Not only did Kanye face huge criticism from Beyonce and the public, but his actions turned Swift into America's sweetheart. That wasn’t the first time West pulled a stunt like that; after Gretchen Wilson won for Best New Artist at the 2004 American Music Awards, Kanye told reporters that he felt like her was “robbed” because he believed that he should have won Best New Artist of the year. It took an episode of "South Park" in 2009 which made crude references to Kanye’s overly outspoken character to finally soften the rappers demeanor. Taking to his blog the artist confessed...

"American Idol" top six

Every year, there's one "American Idol" theme week that proves to be the equalizer. Sometimes it's disco night, or performance episodes dedicated to Frank Sinatra, Gloria Estefan, big band or Bon Jovi.
Wednesday night's (April 25) Queen motif could be the one that trips up some of this year's most promising contenders. What a time to be missing the show's resident glamo (that's glam and emo smushed together) rocker, Colton Dixon!
Though both of us are huge fans of the pioneering British stadium rockers, is there any band whose music feels less relevant at this cultural moment? In other words, six seasons after Simon and the gang first took us on a trip down "Fat Bottom Girls" lane, it's the obvious choice for "Idol...

Jessica Sanchez performs on "American Idol"
Photo: Fox
The "American Idol" top seven took on current hits last week, and look how well things turned out! Uh, wait, never mind.
Anyway, after Jessica Sanchez escaped elimination thanks to the judges' save (which officially marked the first time this season they've actually done something right), "Idol" producers decided to up the ante for Wednesday night's (April 18) show by letting the contestants sing both a #1 from the past decade — since it worked so well before — and a classic soul tune.
Yes, it's "Then and Now" week on "Idol," which, come to think of it, is a pretty apt way of viewing the show's steady decline. It also means we're going to see the usual front-runners strut their stuff: Sanchez will dominate a Beyoncé hit,...

"Let's make ourselves a Marilyn"Since so many of you seemed to be watching Smash judging on response to the pilot episode, and since its a fictional show about a possibly real musical about a very real departed movie star, I thought I'd write it up weekly. But Oscar is a needy lover and hogged all my time. Now there are so many episodes to discuss! To get caught up we'll do two doubles, so here's the first of them.
1.2 "The Callback"
In the second episode, we were both thrilled and shocked to find that they didn't drag out the "who will they cast as Marilyn Monroe?" drama for weeks on end. Though obviously they could and will revisit it since we're a long way from opening night. Both girls, Ivy (Megan Hilty) and Karen (Katharine McPhee) endured torturous waiting and callbacks while the power players made up their mind.

We open this week with Ivy riding on top of Derek in bed. Sweetie, you already got the part, you can stop banging the director. When they're done she wonders if maybe they could get together sometime and actually work on the role. His response of “That's all we're doing, darling” somehow doesn't lead her to slap his face and roll off him. He calls it a joke and promises to set up a rehearsal time.
Eileen is selling off her jewels. She spots a pair of earrings that the jewelry store clerk says were inspired by a pair Marilyn wore in The Seven Year Itch. For fifty bucks Eileen has to have them.
Karen meets Derek for drinks. He explains that with the show being in such an unfinished state they had to go with Ivy because of her greater experience. Karen makes like she's happy to have landed...

"Smash" takes a detour from the lights of Broadway on Monday (Feb. 20) as it follows Karen (Katharine McPhee) home to Iowa.
After not getting the part of Marilyn Monroe, Karen feels a little bit adrift -- even as she's offered a spot in the show's ensemble -- and a trip home for a friend's baby shower doesn't really help much with her resolve.
But she does still know how to cut loose. At a bar with her friends, she rips out a cover of Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" -- you can watch it at the top of the post.
Back in New York, Eileen (Anjelica Huston) has a line on an investor for the show, but her ex, Jerry (Michael Cristofer), doesn't particularly like Eileen striking out on her own. Their conflict is set to heat up over the next couple episodes, and it's kind of fun watching these two pros go at it.

I really love "Smash." A lot. Like, I'd dramatically cry to the soundtrack of all their hits in its extremely brief run if it got canceled.
But -- yes, there's a but -- I'm begging, pleading, asking as politely as a public rant can be, please just skip Episode 3, titled "Enter Mr. Dimaggio" (Mon., Feb. 20, 10 p.m. Est on NBC).
Hear me out: I adored the pilot, and I've probably seen it 10 times without any signs of fatigue. Once critics received the second episode, I was actually nervous because I knew I was doing that thing, that thing where you've built something up so much, it can't possibly live up to it. But it did, for the most part. Note: Julia's (Debra Messing) son's pleas for an adopted little sister are not included in "the most part." I'm already over that storyline, but that's beside the point.

Katharine McPhee's character might be up for the role of Marilyn Monroe on NBC's Smash, but on next week's episode (Monday, 10 p.m. Et), she proves she's still a "Redneck Woman" at heart. In a sneak preview (see video above), McPhee's Karen Cartwright returns to Iowa for a baby shower, where she performs karaoke at a bar to Gretchen Wilson's country hit "Redneck Woman." Meanwhile, back in New York, the writing-producing team played by Anjelica Huston and Debra Messing are working on getting investors for the show and looking to cast someone as Yankee hero - and Monroe husband - Joe Dimaggio.

Rap rascal Kanye West has clashed with many titans of the music biz, but now at the Grammys he confronts his own worst enemy: himself. In two categories, he's nominated twice, which leads us to wonder: will he cancel out his votes or, if he wins, complain about his lost nomination and interrupt himself at the podium? Kanye has had a crazy history at music award shows – he's infamous for throwing tantrums when he or his pals don't win. In 2009, he crashedTaylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, roaring, "Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! Of All Time!" When he lost the MTV European Music Award in 2006, he stormed the stage to ruin the joy of victors Justice and Simian. Footloose has a passionate audience for the 1984 film, so many asked when it was announced that writer-director Craig Brewer was bringing it into the 21st century: Why remake a classic? Why not! Plays are redone all the time. What is so great about Footloose of 2011 is that adds so much to what we loved about the original.

For the "Footloose" purists out there, i.e. those who can't believe they've remade the film and the soundtrack, everyone involved with the reboot knows where you're coming from and they promise they haven't done anything to dull the Kevin Bacon-tastic sheen off the 1984 original.

With that clarion call, Kenny Loggins sent a generation of teenagers into spasms of what approximated dancing in the 1980s. The soundtrack to the 1984 film "Footloose" made almost as much of a pop culture impact as the movie itself, and tracks like the title song, "Almost Paradise," and "Let's Hear It For the Boy" were ubiquitous at middle school dances and roller rinks throughout America.
Now, we're on the verge of a "Footloose" remake, this time transplanted from the Midwest to the South. The movie looks ... well, interesting ... but can a remade soundtrack be as big of a draw as a remade film? We're not so sure, but that doesn't mean the "Footloose" soundtrack isn't worth checking out.
To go along with the geographical changes of the film, "Footloose" has countrified the music. Nowhere is this more evident than in the title track,...

Victoria Justice ("Victorious") will duet with teen country singer Hunter Hayes on a remake of "Almost Paradise" for the soundrack Footloose remake. It's apparent that Footloose is being remake primarily as a country music vehicle. It also looks like the music for the soundtrack is similar to the way the trailer appears for Footloose: very similiar to the original, just with new singers and stars.
Other of the old songs redone by new artists: country singer Blake Shelton will remake the theme song "Footloose" originally recorded by Kenny Loggins. Ella Mae Bowen will cover Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" and Jana Kramer will take on Deniece Williams "Let's Hear It For the Boy."
New music will come from Big & Rich, Zac Brown (from the Zac Brown Band), Lissie, Whitney Duncan and David Banner. Shelton's "The Voice" co-star Cee Lo Green will also record a song for the soundtrack.

The Sunday shoes of "Footloose" are pretty tough to fill.
Everyone remembers Kevin Bacon's quick and sexy moves, undoubtedly thanks to their being choreographed to Kenny Loggins. And that Loggins theme song? It's a mind worm! Everyone knows it and everyone can hum it.
What's a "Footloose" remake to do? Abandon the original theme for something new? Or just be gutsy, run with it, and have a big country star make it his own? Thankfully, director Craig Brewer went with option number two, and put Blake Shelton in the studio to cut loose... footloose.
Shelton isn't the only big star on the new "Footloose" soundtrack. Entertainment Weekly revealed the entire track list, and it features a dozen of music's (and television's) hottest stars putting their stamp on the original "Footloose" songs. While this has caused some small controversy (is not even "Holdin' Out For a Hero" sacred?), the idea...

Monte Carlo is a good-natured throwback to romantic comedies that took place in exotic locations for no reason other than for escapism. Here is a film that’s pure escapism, light and upbeat if missing a biting wit that would have made this delightful. Instead it’s an adventure film with a farce structure but refuses to waltz into farce, holding the line. Selena Gomez stars as a recent Texas highly graduate, who is sent by her step father to Paris with her best friend, Emma (Katie Cassidy) and her half-sister whom she has tenuous relationship with, Meg (Leighton Meester).
Staying only one night in Paris (hey, wasn’t that title of something else?) they see key tourist destinations at a break-neck speed, but when they slow down they get stuck. They discover Gomez’s Grace looks an awful lot like rich heiress/snob Cordelia Winthrop Scott (why can’t...

Big & Rich have dropped a music video for their latest single "Fake ID" on June 24 as part of Cmt Top 20 Countdown. Duo Big Kenny and John Rich share screen with their featured guest Gretchen Wilson in this clip.
Since the song serves as a soundtrack for upcoming movie "Footloose", the video tries to capture the spirit of the musical dramedy by recreating a scene to fit the film. For the effort, directors Robert Deaton and George Flanigen duplicated the movie set, Cowboy's in Atlanta, at Nashville's Rocketown.
Talking about the Julianne Hough-starring flick, Gretchen once said, "The movie rocks." She added, "It is small town America at its best, and this song fits right into the film. The energy and vibe is there, and having Julianne in the video is great."

Country duo Big & Rich gave us an early taste of the upcoming "Footloose" remake when they performed their contribution to the soundtrack, "Fake I.D.," at Wednesday night's Cmt Awards.
If the gleefully anarchic lyrics to "Fake I.D." are any indication, the spirit of teenage rebellion is going to be just as alive and well in the "Footloose" remake as it was in the original 1984 film, which starred Kevin Bacon before he went on to playing eternally young mutant Nazi war criminals.
Check out Big & Rich performing "Fake I.D." at the Cmt Awards, which features a rather clever transition from dive bar to giant stage (and a sudden appearance/contribution by Gretchen Wilson). "Footloose" opens Oct. 14.

Does the moppet to your left look familiar? If so, you might be one of the world’s rarest creatures — a fan of The Voice who’s also seen Kevin Smith’s 2003 flop Jersey Girl. Raquel Castro, the girl who starred in that film as the plucky daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s characters, resurfaced on the second episode of NBC’s singing sensation last night and ended up getting chosen to join Christina Aguilera’s team. As it turns out, Raquel is far from the only Voice contestant who had significant experience in show business before snagging a spot on the series.

Blind Auditions came to an end last night on The Voice as the coaches searched for the final 5 members to their teams. The first week’s round of auditions was much more exceptional than this week’s, but there was still a lot of great talent to be seen. Only a handful of artists were shown not making the cut, while eight others were shown getting a second chance at the end of the episode!
After a detailed reminder of how the blind auditions work, Cherie Oakley, 29, from Nashville, Tn made her way to the stage and earned herself a spot on Christina Aguilera’s team. Having sung on tour with Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson, as while as writing Reba McEntire’s number one hit, “Turn on the Radio,” Cherie was destined to move on in this competition. Though she was the first of two shown singing a song by Blake Shelton’s fiancee,...

After a strong series premiere last week, NBC's "The Voice" continued on with its all-talent-no-looks journey to discover the next music sensation on Wednesday night by ending the competition's highly promoted blind auditions round and establishing eight-contestants-per-judge teams.
Unlike the previous episode, which kicked off with a flashy performance from the entire judging panel — Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — the second episode quickly recapped the competition's rulebook and went straight into the auditions.
After serving as a background singer for the likes of Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson, contestant Cherie Oakley told viewers that she was finally ready for the limelight herself. "It's making me teary-eyed because I've waited a really long time to have my shot and it means a lot," the 29-year-old contestant said before walking onstage.

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
If you watched the premiere episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice" on Sunday night (March 6), you know that it instantly became one of the best shows on television. The cast is remarkable and the challenges are always a little bit insane, and the host — the amazing Donald Trump himself — is an impressive presence. Though tempers ran hot during the show on Sunday night, everybody got along just fine at the premiere party hosted by contestant John Rich. The country star invited a wacky cross-section of people to his home in Nashville, Tennessee (which he has dubbed "Mount Richmore") to watch the show and toast to the experience.
