The up-and-down life and career of Scott Weiland, the Stone Temple Pilots singer who died in 2015, may become the subject of a film, as a script based on his memoir has been put into development under the title “Paper Heart.”
Dark Pictures and producer Orian Williams have picked up “Not Dead & Not for Sale,” the book Weiland wrote with author David Ritz, it was reported Monday by the Hollywood Reporter. The script is being written by Jennifer Erwin, one of Dark Pictures’ co-founders and a self-professed major fan of Stone Temple Pilots.
“It’s an honor to have the trust to tell Scott’s story and the ability to portray the lesser known sides of him – the loving and tender man he was, the high school athlete he was, the melancholy soul he was and the legendary frontman that he will always be,” Erwin said in a statement.

Netflix might add another drama to its slate of original series. The streaming video-on-demand platform has reportedly picked up the serial killer-themed show Mindhunter, developed by House of Cards director and executive producer David Fincher alongside actress Charlize Theron.
The Mindhunter series is based off the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker and former special agent John Douglas. The book tells the backstory of Douglas’ methods for profiling and catching some of the most notorious serial killers, like the Atlanta child murderer and the Seattle Green River Killer Gary Ridgway. Douglas is already a familiar name in the film industry, as various TV and movie characters have been based off him (like Jack Crawford in Silence of the Lambs and Will Graham from Hannibal).
According a report from Deadline, producer Jennifer Orme Erwin originally brought the Mind Hunter book to Theron six years ago.

In the wake of The Sopranos and The Wire, two of best reviewed television programs in all of small-screen history, HBO isn’t slowing one bit. Last year, winners such as Eastbound & Down and Bored to Death debuted, while the returning In Treatment continued its excellent run; then, there’s 2010, which will see the premieres of Wire creator David Simon’s New Orleans-set Treme and Martin Scorcese’s Boardwalk Empire, both of which look exceptional. And now, the cable network is ready to join the David Fincher business, as word circulated early Thursday that the A-list director is working alongside Charlize Theron on Mind Hunter, an in-development adaptation of John Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Serial Crime Unit.

There is a reason why Charlize Theron is not filling her 2010 calendar as much as previous years. The "Monster" actress is trying her hand on developing a crime series for HBO and Fox 21 which will be titled "Mind Hunter". She is accompanied in the production panel by director David Fincher.
"Mind Hunter" is based on John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's book "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit" and will follow an investigation about serial killers. Douglas worked as FBI's top investigator of serial killers and rapist and the book recounts his profiling techniques. Adapting from the book for the pilot's script is Scott Buck who has written for "Six Feet Under" and "Dexter" episodes.
Under her Denver and Delilah banner, Theron teams up also with producer Jennifer Orme Erwin who brought the book into her attention first. Theron, Finch, Erwin and Buck are sitting as the executive producers in this project.

Looks like Dexter will have some competition. HBO and Fox 21 are developing a serial killer series of their own. Like CBS's Criminal Minds, the series won't just be about tracking serial killers, but about profiling these criminals and getting into their heads. Charlize Theron and David Fincher are attached to produce, along with Jennifer Orme Erwin (America's Next Top Model) and Scott Buck (Dexter). Buck is currently...
