Dua Lipa headlined the Glastonbury Festival on Friday night, and during her set she brought out Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker to join her on a pair of tracks.
During her main set, Lipa first welcomed Parker for a rendition of Tame Impala’s “The Less I Know the Better,” a track off the band’s 2015 LP Currents.
For Lipa’s final song of the evening, the Radical Optimism single “Houdini,” she was again joined by Parker, her co-writer and co-producer on the track, on guitar.

The music from Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism sounds very modern. Despite this, one of the album’s creators explained how Motown songs inspired it. He picked out one Smokey Robinson tune in particular as a model for the songs on Dua Lipa’s newest record. Notably, Robinson said he had a lot to say about his legacy as a musicians.

Lipa is a high-tech, modern pop star. Her music is filled with synthesizers and the latest genre trends. However, even the most forward-thinking pop stars can look to the past for inspiration. The classic hits of Motown inspired the construction of songs from Lipa’s Radical Optimism if not its sonic palette.
Danny L Harle is one of the producers of Radical Optimism. During a 2024 interview with Grammy.com, Harle discussed one of the concepts behind the album.

So much of modern music feels like it was created by a computer algorithm to appeal to as many people as possible while having little artistic value. Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism is the antithesis of that. The album’s producer discussed his history of working with avant-garde musicians and why he brought the same energy to working with the “Levitating” singer.

At the root of “radical behaviorism,” a concept popularized by psychologist B.F. Skinner in the 1970s, is the belief that all behavior is the result of external conditioning and can thus be controlled. Think Pavlov’s dog. The title of Dua Lipa’s third studio album, Radical Optimism, nods to Skinner’s concept, but the British pop singer’s conviction that finding joy amid the chaos of life is simply a choice is more akin to that of a self-help book or the principles of Burning Man, which emphasize an empowering sense of self-reliance and expression.

She dispenses similar nuggets of wisdom and affirmations—often directed at herself—throughout Radical Optimism, acknowledging her control issues on “Whatcha Doing” while at the same time finding a bit...

By now, fans of Dua Lipa know that her new album is psychedelia-inspired with contributions from Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the pop star dug deeper into the influences of her upcoming third studio LP, including the UK acts Primal Scream and Massive Attack.
In the profile, Rs staff writer Brittany Spanos reports that Lipa described the album as a “psychedelic-pop-infused tribute to UK rave culture” drawing heavy inspiration from Primal Scream and Massive Attack. Lipa named Primal Scream’s 1991 breakout album, Screamadelica, as a particular influence.
Other inspirations for the album include Britpop legends like Oasis and Blur, as well as ’90s rock and electronic acts like Moby and Gorillaz.
“This record feels a bit more raw,” Lipa explained in the interview. “I want to capture the essence of youth and freedom and having fun and just letting things happen, whether it’s good or bad.

Dua Lipa returned to Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday (January 9th) to get hammered once again and cement her friendship with Meyers by getting matching tattoos.
After getting plastered together during Meyers’ “Day Drinking” segment in December, the duo reconvened to gulp down shots of tequila from the slide of a massive Barbie Dreamhouse. Then, they sat down with a tattoo artist named Bang Bang to get inked together.
Although Meyers initially suggested getting “a solitary dot” for his first tattoo, Lipa insisted they get “a little star” instead. Clearly nervous about the prospect, the late night host took a few shots before getting tattooed on his right calf.
Elsewhere in the episode, Lipa sat down with Meyers for a more traditional interview, in which they spoke about the infamous “Day Drinking” segment when the singer got too drunk to finish. After recalling how they did 12 shots in “like 45 minutes,...

Dua Lipa joined Seth Meyers for the latest installment of the “Day Drinking” segment from his Late Night show.
The two “enjoyed” cocktails and played drinking games inspired by “Houdini.” Later, they played a game called “Idgaf” in which they answered an embarrassing question or took a shot, leading Meyers to name John Oliver as his least favorite late night host and confirm he has a favorite child. Meanwhile, Dua revealed her favorite Albanian swear sword and lamented about how fashion designers next think about the “drunk girls” when creating outfits.
The segment arrives as Dua Lipa is on the tails of her latest release, “Houdini,” a colorful pop track produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. The track was named Consequence’s Song of the Week when it debuted, and arrives ahead of a full, psychedelia-inspired album due sometime in 2024, which will feature more contributions from Parker.

No more hocus pocus: Dua Lipa’s psychedelia-inspired track “Houdini” is out now, with production from Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Danny L Harle. Stream it below.

Last month, Dua Lipa posted a teaser for her new single, “Houdini,” with a close-up of a gold key lodged between her teeth, accompanied by the caption “catch me or i go.” Internet sleuths were quick to point out that fellow Brit Kate Bush’s 1982 album The Dreaming features both a song of the same name and a cover photo of the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee with a similar key in her mouth.
But that’s where the similarities will likely end. Lipa’s forthcoming third studio album is reportedly a move in a more ’70s-style psychedelic direction, and while “Houdini” is a bass-driven post-disco romp in the vein of past hits like “Physical,” it’s infused with subtle touches of neo-psychedelia courtesy of co-producer Kevin Parker, a.k.a. Tame Impala.

Caroline Polachek was the musical guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night (October 17th), and she took the opportunity to debut a brand-new single called “Dang.”
“Dang” feels a bit like if Imogen Heap ever had the opportunity to hop in the studio with the late Sophie. Produced by Polachek along with Cecile Believe and Danny L Harle, it sees the artist lean more into her hyper-pop side, juxtaposing her definitively natural vocals against a whimsical, industrial beat that almost sounds like it could’ve been made with household objects.
As for her Colbert performance, Polachek suited up in a modern shirtdress, necktie, and glasses, emulating the college professor you might’ve had a weird crush on but also terrified you a bit. In between hip swings and dramatic arm gestures, she presented a slideshow filled with infographics that seem to argue the trials and conundrums of being famous for your art.

Caroline Polachek appeared on The Late Show to debut her new single, “Dang.” Dressed as a professor of sorts, Polachek performed the song in front of a lecture screen that switched slides as she sang.
“Dang” follows Polachek’s second solo LP, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, which she released earlier this year. The song, produced by Polachek and Cecile Believe with additional production by Danny L Harle, is leftover from the album’s recording sessions. Polachek has been teasing the track for the past month, dropping it in DJ sets.

While PinkPantheress hasn’t revealed the album’s full tracklist yet, we do know it’ll be 13 tracks with contributions from heavyweights like Greg Kurstin, Mura Masa, Danny L Harle, Count Baldor, Phil, and Cash Cobain. “The record is about grief for a loss but being at peace with yourself in your aloneness,” she said in a press release. “Journeying from hell into purgatory, but I’m Ok with being there.” Pre-orders are ongoing.
A demo of “Capable of Love” has been circulating around online for quite some time now, but today marks the song’s first official release. It begins with gentle acoustic guitars before PinkPantheress whispery vocals come in, eventually culminating into a a...

PC Music, the influential record label and collective A. G. Cook founded in 2013, won’t be releasing new music past 2023, according to a statement on their website.
“After a decade of activity, 2023 will be PC Music’s final year of new releases,” a message reads on the label’s website. “Following that, the label will be dedicated to archival projects and special reissues. We have an undisclosed number of new albums and singles coming very soon.”
To mark the occasion, PC Music has also shared a playlist of “10 x 10 minutes of content from the past, present & future” featuring contributions from Cook, Easyfun, Ö, Grrl, Kane West, umru, Datalord, caro♡, Bopples, and Dux Content.
Cook started PC Music in August 2013, releasing free music on SoundCloud that quickly accrued an underground audience. The label’s first proper paid release came in November 2014 with Hannah Diamond’s “Every Night,” followed shortly thereafter by...

On their new album, 10,000 Gecs, the hyperpop 100 Gecs face down life after going viral with their breakthrough album, 2019’s brilliantly realized 1000 Gecs. It’s a challenge familiar to every extremely online disruptor, from Death Grips and Slayyyter to Danny L Harle of PC Music. Do you double down on the manic internet fusillade, or moderate your antics into tastefully eccentric pop bait? It’s the punk conundrum, Gen Z style.
To be sure, the second album from Dylan Brady and Laura Les contains plenty of genre-blurring craziness. “Billy Knows Jaime,...

“Looking for Subculture?” asks a bouncer at the L.A. club Catch One. “In more ways than one,” I reply as I pull out my ticket to the hyperpop rave happening inside. As a turquoise band is wrapped around my wrist, an artist named Babylungs, who’s dressed like a cybergoth hosting a Pride party at Chuck E. Cheese in the year 2040, walks to the front of the line. Their makeup includes abstract graphics painted above and below their eyes, and two of their pink braids stand erect on top of their head,...

Caroline Polachek has dropped a new song, “Blood and Butter,” and shared the track list for her upcoming album, Desire, I Want to Turn Into You, which is set to arrive (aptly) on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
Co-produced by Polachek and Danny L. Harle, “Blood and Butter” is an enveloping tune with flourishes of trance-y dance music and the global pop of Peter Gabriel. There’s even a bagpipe — played by celebrated bagpipe player Brìghde Chaimbeul — and some delightfully weird-as-hell lyrics, “Look at you, all mythical, logical/And Wikipediated/Look...

Standing In The kitchen at a house party in Rome not long ago, Caroline Polachek heard a song that struck her deeply. “Ti Sento” (“I Hear You”), the 1985 single by Italian pop group Matia Bazar, is peak Eighties Europop kitsch: sparkling synth-pop paired with big, operatic vocals.
Polachek thinks a lot about divas (she loves Celine Dion for “how she exists as an icon, and how pure and comforting and solid that is”), and the performance by Matia Bazar’s singer, Antonella Ruggiero, became a major touchstone for her. “She’s just giving everything,...

Following the critical success of “Billions,” Caroline Polachek is back with the official release of her new track, “Sunset.” Paired with a video peppered with scenes of a rocky beach town in Barcelona, the Sega Bodega-produced song weaves Polachek’s signature otherworldly vocals with Balearic beats, hand claps, and nimble guitar strings.
The song is a quick burn and tells the story of bold, fearless love. Co-directed by Matt Copson and Polachek, the collage-style video follows the singer as she drives through town, plays with kittens in the streets, and sketches from a sun-soaked rooftop.

Flume and Caroline Polachek have shared an evocative music video for their recent collaboration, “Sirens.” The video, directed by Daniel Askill, sees Polachek floating in a cave in an ethereal white gown above a seemingly lifeless Flume.
“Sirens” was co-written and produced by Danny L. Harle and will appear on Flume’s forthcoming LP, Palaces, out May 20 via Future Classic and Transgressive.
“Caroline and I had known each other for years, but she’d just moved to L.A. and we bumped into each other living down the street,” Flume explained in a statement.

Caroline Polachek has shared her new single, “Billions” — a trip-hop inspired, hallucinogenic epic that finds the songwriter expanding upon the inventive production style perfected on her critically acclaimed 2019 album, Pang.
The song, a staple from the “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” singer’s 2021 live shows, was written and produced by Polachek alongside Danny L. Harle and features a children’s chorus performed by London’s renowned Trinity Choir. Its release was accompanied by a surrealist video which finds Polachek indulging in a variety of decadent activities — picking grapes,...

Are PC Music the most exciting movement in electronic music, or the most idiotic? Do its members exist in real space, or are they digital phantasms? Are they joking, or dead serious? What does it all mean?
These and other questions have mushroomed since Londoner A.G. Cook founded the label in 2013, populating Soundcloud with a succession of sparkling, immaculate dance-pop compositions. The songs are credited to a varied group of artists, from lost Spice Girl Hannah Diamond to snarling club queen Gfoty to sugar-crusted producer Danny L. Harle to Cook himself.
