Pallekele, Sept 1 (Ians) In what comes across as a sign of confidence, Pakistan have named an unchanged playing eleven for the highly-anticipated Asia Cup clash against India to be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The same playing eleven from Pakistan, the top-ranked Odi team, had thrashed Asia Cup debutants Nepal by 238 runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium in the tournament opener. Pakistan rose to the top of the Icc Odi rankings after securing a 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan in Sri Lanka.
Of late, Pakistan have gathered sufficient experience of playing in Sri Lanka, starting from a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in July. It was followed by several players, including captain Babar Azam, playing in the Lanka Premier League (Lpl).

Though they have a like-to-like reserve player in Sanju Samson, it seems that Ishan Kishan could bat in the middle-order to fill in for Rahul’s absence.
Though Kishan hit three consecutive fifties in ODIs against West Indies in July, the top three of Shubman Gill, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been set for a long time. Especially with...

Multan, Aug 29 (Ians) Pakistan have named their playing XI for the opening game of the Asia Cup against Nepal, set to take place in Multan Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday.
Pakistan have gone heavy on batting depth for their tournament opener. With three frontline quicks and three spin-bowling all-rounders, the team isn’t short of options in the bowling department either.
There are a few changes from the XI that played Afghanistan in the final Odi in Colombo.
Iftikhar Ahmed came into the middle order, replacing Saud Shakeel. There was also no room for pacer Mohammad Wasim with Pakistan opting to go with Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf.
Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz will be aided by Salman Agha in the spin department.
The batting line-up has a familiar look with Iftikhar coming back into the middle-order after missing the final Odi against Afghanistan.

Karachi, May 4 (Ians) Debutant allrounder Cole McConchie made a bold unbeaten 64 and Tom Blundell (65) top-scored but their efforts went in vain as a series of errors consigned New Zealand to a 26-run defeat in the third Odi, giving hosts Pakistan an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match Odi series.
Chasing Pakistan’s 287/6. build on superb fifties by opener Imam-ul-Haq (90) and skipper Babar Azam (54) at the National Stadium here, the Black Caps were dismissed for 261 in the last over and suffered their third successive defeat in the series.

Sydney, Nov 8 (Ians) A resurgent Pakistan and clinical New Zealand, who have had contrasting campaigns so far, will lock horns in a mouth-watering first semifinal of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), here on Wednesday, with a common goal to book the berth in the all-important final of the mega event.
The Babaz Azam-led side lost their first two matches of the T20 World Cup against India and Zimbabwe and were on the verge of getting knocked out. However, they performed when it mattered, got a lifeline and now have a golden opportunity to go all the way in the tournament.
On the other hand, New Zealand began their campaign in style by thrashing the hosts Australia and eventually won four out of five Super 12 matches. They just lost to England in a high-quality contest but otherwise have been quite clinical in their efforts so far.

Sydney, Nov 3 (Ians) Mohammad Haris on Thursday was named as a replacement for injured left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s 15-man squad in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Haris, a travelling reserve, was named as a replacement after Zaman was ruled out of the tournament due to sustaining a posterior cruciate ligament (Pcl) injury to his right knee.
The knee injury was the reason why Zaman wasn’t originally named in Pakistan’s squad for the showpiece event. He eventually came into the main squad by replacing leg-spinner Usman Qadir.
Zaman missed playing in Pakistan’s Super 12 defeats to India and Zimbabwe before returning into the playing eleven for the Group 2 match against Netherlands in Perth, making 20 runs off 16 balls.

New Delhi, Sep 17 (Ians) Left-handed batter Shan Masood, who was called up to Pakistan’s T20I squad for the first time for the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup, has said that playing County in England was a very big stepping stone in terms of his selection for the mega event in Australia.
The 32-year-old, who edged Fakhar Zaman to the T20 World Cup squad, could make his debut soon with Pakistan set to take on England in a seven-match T20I series starting September 20.
“I’d like to think it (playing County in England) was a very big stepping stone in terms of me making into the T20I side (for the T20 World Cup). The Pakistan Super League (Psl) was a big step up, performing at that level obviously gives you a lot of confidence,” Masood was quoted as saying by Icc.

Afridi making rapid progress but Pakistan likely to be edgy till he takes the field in T20 World Cup
Lahore, Sep 16 (Ians) Pakistan may have included express pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in the 15-man squad for the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia, while also retaining batter Fakhar Zaman among the reserves for the showpiece event next month, but with the duo not completely out of the woods, given that they are still nursing injuries, Babar Azam’s side will likely be edgy till the first match of the mega event is played.
Zaman injured his right knee, landing awkwardly while fielding during the T20 Asia Cup final in Dubai and will fly to London to begin his rehabilitation, an Icc report quoting Pakistan Cricket Board (Pcb) said.
Pakistan lost the final to Sri Lanka with Zaman being bowled for a first-ball duck after hurting his knee in the first innings. The 32-year-old Zaman is one of three travelling reserves in the squad for the T20 World Cup,...

Dubai, Sep 12 (Ians) A collective impressive performance by Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Wanindu Hasaranga and Pramod Madushan led Sri Lanka to Asia Cup 2022 title with a clinical 23-win over Pakistan in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
This is Sri Lanka’s sixth Asia Cup title — 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014 & 2022. After losing their opening game against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and then again Pakistan to clinch the 2022 Asia Cup.
An impressive fighting fifty by Bhanuka Rajapaksa (71 not out off 45) and an attacking knock by Wanindu Hasaranga (36 off 21) propelled Sri Lanka to a fighting total of 170/6 in 20 overs. Apart from Rajapaksa and Hasaranga, Dhananjaya de Silva (28 off 21) and Chamika Karunaratne (14 not out off 14) also played vital knocks for Sri Lanka, during their stay at the crease.
Chasing a challenging total, Pakistan were helped by some wayward bowling of Dilshan Madushanka, who gave 12 runs in the first over rife with wides and uncontrolled swing.

Lahore, Sep 11 (Ians) Pakistan great Inzamam-ul Haq has asked the team’s captain Babar Azam and batsman Fakhar Zaman to score more runs as they gear up for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.
Inzamam has recommended both the batters score more runs in the field rather than staying on the pitch for a longer time.
Though Pakistan has reached the final, there are concerns about the team’s performance on the batting front with skipper Babar managing only 30 runs in the event.
Inzamam, Pakistan’s former captain and chief selector, said he hopes the team wins in the Asia Cup 2022 finale against Sri Lanka.
“Pakistan’s fight against Sri Lanka wasn’t visible in the Super 4 match between the two sides, but today we will celebrate the victory of the Men in Green inshallah,” the former cricketer during a discussion on a local television channel.

Dubai, Sep 11 (Ians) Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl first against Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
Before this match, Sri Lanka and Pakistan had met in three Asia Cup finals — the former won in 1986 and 2014 while the latter emerged victorious in 2000.
Pakistan made two changes in their team for this important game as Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan came in place of Usman Qadir and Hasan Ali.
“We’ll bowl first. Looking forward to the match. The confidence level is high. We’ve played very well in this tournament. Every match we have a new Potm. Shadab, Naseem back. Usman and Hasan out,” said Azam at the toss.
On the other hand, Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka decided to stick with the same playing XI, which helped them win their Super Four game against Pakistan.
