New Delhi, Aug 22 (Ians) To bring in more transparency in the selection of the national team, former India cricketer and Bengal’s current sports minister, Manoj Tiwary has suggested that Bcci should make a live broadcast of these important meetings rather than keeping them closed-door affairs.
The Bengal Ranji Trophy team captain also made it clear that he would take the path of such ‘live coverage’ if he ever gets to head the local cricket body –- the Cricket Association of Bengal (Cab).
“For fans and every stakeholder, I would like to see a live broadcast of the selection meeting so that there is more transparency in the process. Everyone will know on what basis a player is picked on the team or dropped from the team. Otherwise, questions would be raised over and over again,” Tiwary told the YouTube channel ‘Cricket Basu’ while reacting to India’s team selection...

Bengaluru, Aug 23 (Ians) A rejuvenated Mysore Warriors ended the brave run of the Hubli Tigers by five wickets in the eliminator of the Maharaja Trophy T20 Tournament on Tuesday.
Chasing a stiff 165 for a place in the Qualifier 2 to be played on Thursday, the Warriors stayed focused right through and kept the asking rate under control to eventually breeze to an easy victory. But not before a late hiccup when they lost three wickets in the 19th over with victory in sight — nine runs of the last 12 balls.
Openers Nihal Ullal and captain Karun Nair added 52 runs for the opening wicket as the Warriors slammed 54 runs in the six-over power-play, compared to the Tigers’ 56-0 in the same period.
It was a good platform nevertheless to step on the accelerator later in the innings. And they did just that in the 15th over as Shreyas Gopal and Ullal blasted 24 overs of M.

Bengaluru, Aug 21 (Ians) Gulbarga Mystics’ captain Manish Pandey looked a cut above the rest as his half-century before a long rain delay helped pave the way for a win against the Mysuru Warriors on Sunday.
And even though Shreyas Gopal fought hard with 32 off 16 balls, the Warriors fell short by 7 runs after the target had been revised to 110 in 11 overs.
Batting first, the Gulbarga Mystics had a slow start as the stylish openers Devdutt Padikkal (14) and Rohan Patil (6) found it tough to get the Mysore Warriors bowlers away. While Patil was the first wicket to fall, Padikkal depart just after the powerplay, neither able to make significant contributions during the early phase.

Bengaluru, Aug 18 (Ians) Bowlers made merry at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday as the Karun Nair-led Mysuru Warriors registered a 2-run win against the Hubli Tigers.
Asked to bat first, the Mysuru Warriors lost openers Nihal Ullal (2) and Nitin Bhille (0) cheaply, which was followed by a first-ball duck for captain Karun Nair. The early collapse pegged them back in the powerplay as Pavan Deshpande and Shubhang Hegde had the difficult task of rebuilding.
Both had to be cautious, as another couple of quick wickets would mean disaster for the Warriors. Deshpande and Hegde played a solid hand, putting on a 54-run stand to steady the ship before the latter was dismissed just after the midway mark. The Warriors would have hoped to build further, but Shreyas Gopal landed a first-ball duck as well. However, Rohan Naveen missed out on the hat-trick.

Mysore, Aug 14 (Ians) An entertaining half-century from Sharath Br, followed by some fine bowling performances helped Shivamogga Strikers beat Mysuru Warriors by 13 runs in a Maharaja Trophy Ksca T20 2022 match, here on Sunday.
Asked to bat first, the Shivamogga Strikers, who were eyeing a return to winning ways, made a solid start with openers Rohan Kadam and Sharath Br putting on a half-century stand to begin.
While Rohan found it tough to get the momentum going, Sharath was in fine touch and found the gaps with ease which helped improve the scoring rate.
Just before the powerplay ended, Rohan (18) was dismissed and Vinay Sagar (1) followed in the same over. But Sharath continued to entertain the fans on the long weekend, getting to his fifty in the 10th over, before being dismissed for 53, having smashed six fours and two sixes.
In the middle order, Siddharth (36), Stallin Hoover (16) and Avinash D (25) made very useful contributions.

Mysore, Aug 13 (Ians) Pavan Deshpande turned up the style on Saturday evening, scoring a strokeful half-century for the Mysuru Warriors, before Aditya Goyal and Shreyas Gopal helped restrict the high-flying Bengaluru Blasters batting to 165/8.
That saw the Mysuru Warriors clinch a 6-run win.
Batting first, Mysore Warriors lost skipper Karun Nair for 1, but that hardly set them back as Nihal Ullal and Pavan Deshpande got their act going. The duo only made full use of the fielding restrictions in the powerplay and kept things solid, not allowing the Blasters another early breakthrough.
A 59-run stand between them gave the Warriors some breathing space before Nihal was gone for 23. Deshpande though was firing away on all cylinders, and continued to do so despite the fall of the wicket, bringing up his fifty with a six over midwicket in the 12th over. Mysore, Aug 12 (Ians) Gulbarga Mystics’ opening batter Rohan Patil put on an absolute show on Thursday, scoring a sublime ton against Mysore Warriors in a rain-hit game.
Patil’s assault helped the Mystics register a comprehensive 9-wicket win. Patil, who got to his 50 off 15 balls, reached his 100 in 42 deliveries, having hit 6 sixes and 10 fours up until then. He finished unbeaten on 112.
Asked to bat first after rain delayed the toss, the Mysore Warriors got off to a flyer with the in-form openers Karun Nair and Nihal Ullal scoring at good clip. They were motoring along at 10 runs an over or so before the skipper was run-out for 18.
Nihal and Naga Bharath tried to keep the momentum going but it was the opener who fell in the process, walking back to the hut for 27 in the 9th over. Gulbarga Mystics had applied the brakes for a bit, but Pavan Deshpande came...

New Delhi, March 29 (Ians) Seventeen years ago this day, swashbuckling batsman Virender Sehwag provided millions of his fans plenty to rejoice as he hammered India's first ever triple Test century in Multan -- and went on to score another triple and missed a third one by a whisker.
Playing only in his 21st Test match, Sehwag, then aged 25 years and 160 days, achieved the feat on the second day of the first Test of the series against Pakistan. He ended the first day of the match at 228 not out and soon after lunch interval on the second day, he stepped out to off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq and lifted him over the long on boundary for a six to complete the triple in fabulous style.

New Delhi, Jan 29 (Ians) There have been many brilliant batting performances in the 122 Tests played so far between Indian and England, starting 1932.
As the Virat Kohli-captained India prepare to clash with Joe Root's England in a much-anticipated four-match Test series, beginning February 5 in Chennai, here's a look at the top five top individual knocks in the history of the two teams:
Graham Gooch's 333:

During the first Test of the three-match series, Gooch played a brilliant knock of 333 -- containing a dropped chnace from wicketkeeper Kiran More when he was on 36. Courtesy Gooch's 485-ball knock, England posted a mammoth total of 653/4 wickets (declared). In reply, India made 454, riding on centuries from Ravi Shastri (100), currently head coach of India, and captain Mohammad Azharruddin (121). Chennai, Jan 27 (Ians) Five pitches with "decent amount of grass" have been prepared for the first India-England Test that begins at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on February 5. The Indian team management will pick the one it deems suitable for the Test and decide on how much grass will be left on the surface.
The Ma Chidambaram Stadium has not hosted competitive cricket since the start of the lockdown in March last year and all eyes are on how the surface would behave.
Incidentally, the last Test match to be played at the venue was between the same teams over four years ago, in December 2016. India racked up 759/7 wickets with Karun Nair scoring an unbeaten 303 and Kl Rahul scoring 199. India went on to win the Test -- 1,443 runs were scored and 27 wickets were captured in the match -- by an innings and 75 runs.

New Delhi, Jan 25 (Ians) Chennai's Ma Chidambaram Stadium 'Chepauk', which will host the first two Tests of the upcoming four-match series against England, has been a happy hunting ground for the host India.
India and England have faced each other in nine Test matches at 'Chepauk', with the hosts registering five wins and England winning three. The Test match in 1982 had ended in a draw.
In their last encounter in 2016, India had registered a tremendous win by an innings and 75 runs. In that game, Karun Nair had become the second Indian, after Virender Sehwag, to score a triple hundred in Test cricket.
England had posted 477 in their first innings, riding on 146 by Moeen Ali and 88 from Joe Root, who is now captain. In reply, India declared at 759/7 -- their highest Test score till date. New Delhi, Jan 20 (Ians) Fifty-seven players have been released by eight Indian Premier League (Ipl) franchises ahead of the 2021 auction, to be held next month. They include Mumbai Indians' fast bowling great Lasith Malinga, former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith, Chennai Super Kings (Csk) off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, and Kings XI Punjab all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) have released the most number of players, 10, though it is noteworthy that among them are wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who announced his retirement from all cricket recently, and veteran South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn, who had opted out of the Ipl in the first week of this month.
Delhi Capitals said in a statement that they have traded all-rounders Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams to Rcb. They are, however, yet to name the players that would possibly come from Rcb as part of the trading window, which is open until about a week before the auction.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 31 (Ians/GloFans) Five wins on the trot saw Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) making a turnaround in their fortunes before a defeat to Rajasthan Royals (Rr) dented their Indian Premier League playoff chances. Kxip side will now have to play out of their skin against a buoyant Chennai Super Kings (Csk) on Sunday and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
With the race to playoffs intensifying, Kxip (12 points from 13 games) will not just bank on a win but would also hope all other calculations go their way to enable them to finish among the top four at the end of the league phase. Although Rajasthan Royals (-0.377) and Kolkata Knight Riders (-0.467) also have 12 points each, Kxip have a better net run rate (-0.133) than them at the moment.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 29 (Ians/GloFans) With five wins on the trot, a rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) will look to further boost their playoff hopes when they face Rajasthan Royals (Rr) in the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) on Friday.
While Kxip (12 points) have turned it around after going on a dismal run in the first half of the season, Rr (10 points) have been wildly inconsistent in the latter half of the season and desperately need a win to be alive in the race for the playoffs season at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
Kxip captain Kl Rahul (595 runs from 12 matches) has been leading the batting from the front and has received good support from his opening partner Mayank Agarwal, who missed last two games due to bruised knee.

Sharjah, Oct 25 (Ians/GloFans) With four consecutive victories, Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) have stunned everyone and the Kl Rahul-led lineup will aim to keep the juggernaut rolling when they face Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) in the 46th fixture of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) here on Monday.
The last time the two sides squared off, Kkr beat Kxip by two runs. However, a lot has changed since then. While the Eoin Morgan-led team has been inconsistent, Punjab have managed to win matches regardless of how far behind they are.
Kxip will be, undoubtedly, riding high on confidence after their narrow but morale boosting win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh). Despite putting a paltry 126/7 on board, Kxip managed a win, thanks to their bowlers, who stepped up at the right time.

Dubai, Oct 23 (Ians/GloFans) After three consecutive wins, Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) have managed to remain afloat in the Indian Premier League (Ipl). The Kl Rahul-led side will now face a stern test when they take on fifth-placed SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) in the 43rd contest of the season here on Saturday.
Both Punjab and Hyderabad are on eight points but the David Warner-led team is a spot ahead in the points-table, thanks to their better net run rate.
The two teams now need to win all their remaining games in order to remain in contention for the next round.
Kxip captain Kl Rahul and his opening partner Mayank Agarwal have been in sublime form and the arrival of Chris Gayle has further bolstered their top-order.
However, Glenn Maxwell's consistency remains doubtful as, barring the last game against Delhi Capitals (DC), the Aussie has not been up to the mark.

Dubai, Oct 19 (Ians/GloFans) After a memorable double Super Over win against reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi), a rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) will aim to carry their momentum and keep their chances of making it to the playoffs alive when they meet table toppers Delhi Capitals (DC) here on Tuesday.
Led by Kl Rahul, Kxip held their nerves in the heart-stopping contest at the same venue, Dubai International Stadium. The win would have surely boosted the morale of Kxip and the squad would aim to replicate the performance against Shreyas Iyer's men, who are currently atop the table with 14 points.
The sole problem with Kxip has been their failure to click as a unit, barring Rahul and opener Mayank Agarwal. The others have not supported them as they should have.

Dubai, Oct 17 (Ians/GloFans) Reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) would look to enhace their chances of sealing a playoff berth with a win when they play a deflated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) in the 36th game of the 13th Indian Premier League (Ipl) here on Sunday.
Despite being in red hot form, the Rohit Sharma-led Mi wouldn't take their opponents lightly on Sunday, as Kxip is motivated by the return of hard-hitting Chris Gayle.
While Mi are the current joint toppers with 12 points, Kxip languish at the bottom of the eight-team standings and another defeat will make their task to qualify very difficult.
After missing most of the first-half games, self-proclaimed 'Universe Boss' Gayle made a decent start with a 45-ball 53 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in the previous game. The Kxip think-tank will hope Gayle to replicate the show along with the in-form opener Mayank Agarwal and skipper Kl Rahul,...

Sharjah, Oct 14 (Ians/GloFans) Bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) will be under tremendous pressure as they now face a must-win situation when they take on the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.
After losing six of their seven games, the Kl Rahul-led Kxip are languishing at the bottom of the points table with two points. Despite having the top-two leading run-getters of the season in skipper Rahul (387 runs) and Mayank Agarwal (337), Kxip have failed in getting wins.
Barring the duo, the other Kxip batters have failed to click and lack of an all-round effort has been clearly visible. Same is the condition of the bowling attack as except Mohammad Shami and Ravi Bishnoi, the others have been off-colour.
However, Kxip can draw some confidence from the fact their solitary win in ongoing season had come against Rcb.

Dubai, Oct 3 (Ians/GloFans) Thrice champions Chennai Super Kings (Csk) failed to take advantage of a six-day rest and on return lost to SunRisers Hyderabad on Friday. Csk will have another opportunity to redeem themselves when they meet Kings XI Punjab (Kxip), who are still looking for their first Ipl title, in Sunday's second encounter here.
Csk have undoubtedly dominated the lucrative tournament since its inception in 2008, but the Ms Dhoni-led side is struggling this year. Nothing has been going right for Csk: first it was off-field issues, and now they have failed to deliver on the field as well, suffering three defeats on the trot.
Csk are surely a star-studded side on paper, but so far they haven't lived up to the expectations they have raised. And in such a situation, Csk need to salvage pride when they face Kxip here.
A lot was talked about Dhoni's batting position...

Abu Dhabi, Oct 1 (Ians) Four-time champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) on Thursday cruised to a 48-run win over Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here. Chasing Mi's total of 191/4 wickets in 20 overs, Kxip only managed to reach 143/8 wickets in 20 overs as a clinical Mi bowling attack rarely allowed the batsmen any space to score runs freely.
Mi separated Kxip's star opening pair of Kl Rahul and Mayank Agarwal early on. Jasprit Bumrah accounted for Agarwal in the fifth over. Karun Nair fell for a duck in the very next over while Rahul Chahar outfoxed Kxip captain and top scorer Kl Rahul in the ninth.
Nicholas Pooran kept Kxip's hopes alive, smashing 44 runs off 27 balls and putting up 41 for the fourth wicket with Glenn Maxwell. It also turned out to be Kxip's highest partnership and the last one that crossed over into two figures as they wilted after...

Sharjah, Sep 26 (Ians/GloFans) The K.L. Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) began their Ipl campaign on a losing note but they bounced back in grand style by outshining Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in their second outing. On Sunday, they will be up against a confident Rajasthan Royals (Rr), who are now evenly poised with the return of Jos Buttler along with mentor Shane Warne.
In their last game, Rahul single-handedly blew the Virat Kohli-led Rcb away with his unbeaten 132. Later, the Punjab bowlers also rose to the occasion and bundled out Rcb for a paltry 109, setting up a massive 97-run win.
The Kxip team management will hope its players to replicate the show against Rr. However, the only headache for Kxip will be the silence of Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran in the middle-order and the team management would likely try to make some minor changes here.

Dubai, Sep 23 (Ians/GloFans) Ahead of their Thursday's clash, if Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) looked for motivation from their head-to-head Ipl record, they would have been a bit disappointed as little separated the two teams; both have won 12 matches each since the Ipl began in 2008.
After enduring umpiring errors, followed by a Super Over heartbreak, in their campaign opener against Delhi Capitals (DC), the Kl Rahul-led Kxip would look open their account against Virat Kohli's Rcb at the Dubai International Cricket stadium here on Thursday.
Against DC, Punjab rode on MayankAgarwal's blistering 60-ball 89 to approach the 158-run target. While the other Punjab players failed to leave an impact, and the team suffering hiccups at regular intervals, it was Mayank who single-handedly propelled Punjab and very nearly sealed a win.
However, just when Kxip was on the brink of a win, needing just one off three deliveries,...

Dubai, Sep 19 (Ians/GloFans) The second game of the 13th Indian Premier League (Ipl) will be played between two of the most inconsistent performers of the tournament till date -- Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (Kxip). Both are yet to win a title in 12 attempts.
After a lacklustre outing in the first 11 seasons of the lucrative league, the Delhi franchise renamed their team, from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, in December 2018 and that turned out to be lucky for them.
Last season, Delhi's seven-year wait to enter the play-offs ended when Shreyas Iyer led from the front and took his team into the qualifiers. They eventually went down to the Csk and crashed out.
After an impressive outing last year, DC retained most of their core players, namely Shreyas, stumper Rishabh Pant, and pacer Kagiso Rabada. The franchise, however, released some under-performers like Colin Munro, Colin Ingram, and Chris Morris.
