Harare, July 22 (Ians) Wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Uthappa struck a fine 31 but his effort went in vain as the Cape Town Samp Army put in an all-around effort to win their match by 16 runs on the second day of the inaugural edition of the Zim Afro T10 tournament at the Harare Sports Club here on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, the Cape Town Samp Army got off to a flyer with Rahmanullah Gurbaz taking the attack to the Harare Hurricanes bowlers. Abu Dhabi, Nov 28 (Ians) One of the most followed cricketers in the modern day has been India’s S Sreesanth, for his impeccable seam bowling abilities and his mercurial ways, and also for the unsavoury incidents related to the match-fixing and the darker side of the game.
A part of the Indian team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 Odi World Cup at home, Sreesanth’s storied career now sees him in the role of a mentor with the Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangla Tigers in the sixth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10.
Speaking about the T10 from the point of view of a bowler, Sreesanth said, “It’s the fastest format and it’s a lot of fun. And when you’re bowling to dangerous batters, you have to back yourself. As a bowler, you have to believe you can get wickets and not...

Abu Dhabi, Nov 24 (Ians) South African pacer Dwaine Pretorius’ fine bowling spell of 3 for 11 helped debutants Samp Army beat Bangla Tigers by 15 runs in an Abu Dhabi T10 match at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, here on Thursday.
Batting first, Samp Army posted only 100/5 in their 10 overs and then they choked runs in the last five overs to restrict Bangla Tigers to 85/3 and pull off a 15-run victory.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Bangla Tigers skipper Shakib Al Hasan introduced himself for the first over and bowled to Samp Army openers skipper Moeen Ali and Johnson Charles.
Moeen Ali hit Shakib’s fifth ball for a six over long-on and along with Charles took 12 runs off the first over. Rohan Mustafa bowled the second over and gave away just six runs that included a boundary by Charles to backward point.

Abu Dhabi, Nov 23 (Ians) Bangla Tigers pulled off a sensational 19 runs win over newcomers New York Strikers in the opening match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday.
The architect of the Bangla Tigers’ win was opener Evin Lewis who hit 58 runs off 22 balls with seven sixes and two boundaries to help post an impressive total of 131 for 5 in 10 overs. New York Strikers, despite an unbeaten 45 off 19 balls with three boundaries and four sixes from skipper Kieron Pollard, could not attain their target.
New York Strikers had won the toss and elected to field. Hazratullah Zazai and Evin Lewis opened for Bangla Tigers. Hobart, Oct 21 (Ians) Leg-spinner Gareth Delany picked career-best figures of 3/16 while veteran opener Paul Stirling, playing in his seventh Men’s T20 World Cup, stood up when it mattered the most, slamming a sensational 66 not out to take Ireland to the Super 12 stage of the ongoing tournament with a nine-wicket drubbing of West Indies in a decisive Group B match of the first round at Bellerive Oval on Friday.
After Delany kept things tight, with other bowlers chipping in, to keep the West Indies to an under-par 146/5 in 20 overs, with Brandon King making an unbeaten 62, Stirling came out all guns blazing in his unbeaten 48-ball knock, hitting six fours and two sixes to make a mockery of the chase, hunting down the total with 15 balls remaining.

Hobart, Oct 21 (Ians) Brandon King marked his return to the playing eleven with an unbeaten 62 to take the West Indies to an under-par 146/5 in 20 overs of their do-or-die Group B clash against Ireland in the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at Bellerive Oval on Friday.
For Ireland, leg-spinner Gareth Delany picked career-best figures of 3/16 and kept things tight, while off-spinner Simi Singh and pacer Barry McCarthy took a wicket apiece to give their side a good chance of qualifying for the Super 12 stage.
Pushed into bowling first, Ireland drew first blood as Barry McCarthy foxed Kyle Mayers with his length ball, the left-hander completely mistiming the ball to mid-off. Johnson Charles feasted on Curtis Campher’s short balls, taking two fours and a six on three consecutive deliveries in the fourth over.

Hobart, Oct 19 (Ians) Fast bowling duo of Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder shared seven wickets between themselves as two-time champions West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by 31 runs in a must-win Group B match in the first round of Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at Bellerive Oval on Wednesday to stay alive in the pursuit of making the Super 12 stage.
After making 153/7 in their 20 overs, with Sikandar Raza’s brilliant 3/19 causing a middle-order meltdown, West Indies didn’t have a good start to their defence as Zimbabwe’s stand-in captain Regis Chakabva hit three fours in an 18-run opening over off Kyle Mayers. Joseph, who took career-best figures of 4/14 in his four overs, struck in his second over after conceding 11 runs in the opening over as Chakabva chopped on to his stumps.

Hobart, Oct 19 (Ians) Sikandar Raza starred with a brilliant spell of 3/19, triggering a West Indies collapse as the two-time champions set a 154-run target for Zimbabwe in a must-win Group B match in the first round of Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at Bellerive Oval on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first, West Indies started well despite losing Kyle Mayers in the fourth over, top-edging a pull to keeper off Blessing Muzarabani. Johnson Charles (45) and Evin Lewis (15) shared a vital 49-run stand off 38 balls to get the innings back on track.
But Zimbabwe’s introduction of Raza from the seventh over triggered a West Indies meltdown in the middle-order. The off-spin all-rounder had his first scalp in the tenth over when Lewis holed out to long-on. Captain Nicholas Pooran was next to depart, falling to Sean Williams, chipping back a simple catch to the bowler.

Hobart, Oct 17 (Ians) Just 24 hours after Namibia kick-started the Men’s T20 World Cup with a stunning 55-run win over Sri Lanka, Scotland pulled off another major upset in the tournament with a shock 42-run victory over two-time champions West Indies in a Group B first round match at the Bellerive Oval on Monday.

Carrara (Gold Coast), Oct 5 (Ians) An almost full-strength Australia squad, including David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, will be up against the West Indies in a short two-match T20I series beginning at the Metricon Stadium here later on Wednesday, with both sides looking to give final touches to their preparations ahead of the T20 World Cup, beginning on October 16.
Dashing opener Warner, who was rested from the three-match T20I India tour, will be back along with Marsh — who was sidelined due to an ankle injury — and pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who was tending to a knee issue.
However Ashton Agar and Kane Richardson, who are both members of Australia’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad, are not part of the series.
“We have and are taking a cautious approach with the World Cup on the near horizon,” National Selection Panel (Nsp) Chair George Bailey was quoted as saying by cricket.

Guyana, Sep 23 (Ians) The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots secured a seven-run win over the Trinbago Knight Riders to stay in contention for a 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) play-off spot here on Friday.
St Kitts & Nevis Patriots won the toss and chose to bat in this must-win game, but were restricted early on as the Knight Riders rotated five bowlers across the powerplay.
Sherfane Rutherford would change the complexion of the innings with a brilliant 78 runs, aided by a spectacular cameo from Dewald Brevis, to take the Patriots to 163/6.
Patriots were frustrated by the bowling of the Knight Riders in the first ten overs, reaching 43/3 and having lost the key wicket of Evin Lewis. Rutherford would then shoulder the responsibility of carrying the innings. Brevis scored 30 runs from just six balls, constantly clearing the boundary.
In their chase, the Trinbago Knight Riders struggled to build partnerships as wickets consistently fell.

St Lucia, Sep 12 (Ians) Saint Lucia Kings kept their Hero Cpl hopes alive with dominant win over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
The Patriots opted to field first after winning the toss. That decision seemed to have backfired as Johnson Charles and Faf Du Plessis put on a blistering opening partnership that saw them post 61 runs in the PowerPlay.
They put on 86 for the first wicket, before Charles was dismissed in the ninth over. His 41 included four fours and two sixes. The Lucia Kings faltered after losing nine wickets for 75 runs and totalled 161 for nine, which was a challenging total. Some late hitting from Matthew Forde ensured the Kings were able to post a par score of 161.
However, the Patriots got off to a bad start in the PowerPlay losing three wickets for 48 runs. They never recovered from that position.

St Kitts & Nevis, May 23 (Ians) West Indian all-rounder and Kolkata Knight Riders' (Kkr) mainstay, Andre Russell is among the high-profile retentions by the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) 2021, which will be played here from August 28 to September 19.
Russell, who has been with Jamaica Tallawahs since 2013, had created a controversy last year when he said that it was the "weirdest" franchise he has played for, and that the 2020 Cpl would be his last for the team.
However, Russell will be part of the Tallawahs again along with fellow allrounders Carlos Brathwaite and Rovman Powell, according to espncricinfo.com.
St. Kitts & Nevis is hosting this year's Cpl in its entirety, with all the 33 games scheduled to take place in the twin islands because of logistical issues arising due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Antigua, March 11 (Ians) Opener Shai Hope scored 110 to lead West Indies to an eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first Odi at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Hope's 10th Odi century helped West Indies chase down a target of 233 with three overs remaining.
The Sri Lankan innings was marked by the dismissal of opener Danushka Gunathilaka, who was sent back after West Indies captain Kieron Pollard appealed against him for obstructing the field on Wednesday. The on-field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire with a soft signal of out and the latter wasted little time in confirming the call.
Earlier, Gunathilaka and captain Dimuth Karunaratne's opening partnership of 105 runs was broken after the latter was dismissed by Pollard in the 20th over on 52.
