Liev Schreiber urged a crowd of D.C. lawmakers, ambassadors and media figures for continued support for Ukrainians as the one-year anniversary nears of Russia’s attempted invasion.
The occasion was UnSanctioned, an event at the French ambassador’s residence that brought together those who have been sanctioned by Vladimir Putin’s regime to support the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
The list, as Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova noted, is long. The sanctioned guests at the Friday evening event included Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, State Department Spokesman Ned Price, Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-pa), Rep. Rick Larsen (D-wa), Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Co), Rep. Rick Larsen (D-wa), Rep. Susan Wild (D-pa), Susan Glasser, Bianna Golodryga and Craig Kennedy.

There are a lot of congressional Republicans who don’t want to set up a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, and Stephen Colbert laid into them on Wednesday’s “Late Show.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steve Scalise encouraged Republicans to vote against the bill that would create the commission, despite the fact that its points were agreed to by their designated negotiator, Republican Rep. John Katko.
Colbert pointed out that Katko is one of 29 GOP members of the centrist, bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus. “Hey, I thought all members of the House were supposed to be members of the Problem Solvers Caucus. That’s why we send them to Washington,” Colbert said. “Though I guess these days a lot of them go down to Mar-a-Lago to meet with ‘the problem.’”

A proposal to create a commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol cleared the House of Representatives on Wednesday, but its prospects are uncertain in the Senate because of the opposition of Republican leadership.
The vote was 252-175, with 35 Republicans breaking with GOP leadership and joining with all Democratic members in favor of forming the commission.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell came out against the commission earlier on Wednesday, even though it would be a bipartisan body, calling it “slanted and unbalanced.” But the commission would be made up of five members from each party and mutual agreement would be required to issue subpoenas.
But former President Donald Trump, impeached for inciting the attack on the Capitol, came out against it, and a number of Republicans have followed his lead. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-ca) announced his opposition, even after tasking one of the GOP members,...

The top-ranking Democratic and Republican members of the House Homeland Security Committee announced plans to move forward with a bill creating a bipartisan commission to look into the events of the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol.
While the bill does not yet have the support of top-ranking House Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy, Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and ranking member John Katko (R-n.Y.) jointly announced the bill, which Politico reports includes “some key concessions to Republicans.” Following the announcement, McCarthy said he did not yet know the details of the bill.

The twice-impeached former president made his first public appearance since leaving office.
On Sunday, Trump was the main speaker at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (Cpac). And according to a Fox News commentator, the event had the cult-like, Maga hat-wearing attendees calling it Tpac instead of Cpac, because of their seeming undying devotion to him.
So, even though Trump’s speech stretched over 90 boring minutes, he did not disappoint his diehard fans in attendance. However, whether they will admit it or not, other members of the GOP establishment may...

The House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to impeach President Trump for “incitement of insurrection,” making him the first president in American history to have been impeached twice.
The vote comes exactly one week after Trump incited a mob of his followers to storm the U.S Capitol in a violent insurrection that left five people dead. The resolution passed by a vote of 232-197. House Republicans overwhelmingly opposed the measure, though 10 did join with Democrats to vote that a president who encourages his followers and his party to overthrow a U.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-wy) said that she will vote to impeach Donald Trump when the House of Representatives takes up charges against the president on Wednesday.
Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, is a member of the House Republican leadership.
“The president of the United States summoned this mob, assembled this mob, and lit the flame of this attack,” Cheney said in a statement. “Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the president. The president could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not.”
She added, “There never has been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”
Her statement is an indication that the impeachment vote will play out far differently than Trump’s first impeachment, when no Republicans joined with Democrats.
