Melbourne, Sep 3 (Ians) India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the only player from the country selected in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League (Wbbl) overseas draft, held on Sunday. She was placed in the platinum category of the draft and was picked by Melbourne Renegades, who also drafted in West Indies captain Hayley Matthews.
Harmanpreet returns to the Renegades and the Wbbl after missing last season due to injury. She was the Player of the Tournament in Wbbl season seven, after being the Renegades’ leading run-scorer (406) and wicket-taker (15). She recently represented the Trent Rockets in The Hundred, and led the Mumbai Indians to the inaugural Women’s Ipl title earlier this year.
“I’m so pleased we got both of them and I’m looking forward to them working with us again this year. It was a tough decision – do we go Harmanpreet at pick three, or do we go Hayley.

New Delhi, Dec 5 (Ians) India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur feels the upcoming Women’s Ipl, scheduled to begin in March next year, will be a major boost for women’s cricket in India, adding that the tournament will help bridge the gap between international and domestic cricket.
“The Ipl is a huge step forward for women’s cricket because, before this, we have witnessed the Australia Board, England Board, they have looked after the Wbbl and The Hundred. I think we as athletes have discussed it as well, that there’s a big gap between domestic and international cricket which some cricketers were not able to match, because even if you play well in domestic cricket and then suddenly play international games, you’re not able to understand what to do and how to do it.”

Mumbai, June 2 (Ians) India women cricket team's travel to England for their first Test in seven years will pit them in challenging conditions but the team is not going with a pre-determined plan.
Though this will be India women's first Test in seven years, many of the current squad members featured in India's last Test in 2014, also against England, at Wormsley.
Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey, Punam Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur were in the Indian playing eleven in the 2014 Test and are also part of the current squad.
While the Test in 2014 was played in August, the latter part of English summer, when pitches tend to break after use during the season, the one-off Test in Bristol this time will be played from June 16, which is the early part of summer.
"I think there will be ball seaming around for batters and bowlers also. I think it...

Women have been playing cricket since 1745. Unfortunately, the gentlemen of the game never gave women's cricket prominence and importance, and so it remained a village entertainment. In the late 19th and early 20th century in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, there emerged a movement to establish women's cricket.
In 1926, a women's cricket association was founded. It was only in 1958 that the International Women's Cricket Council was formed to coordinate cricket around the world.
In India, the efforts of just one man who selflessly pioneered the formation of the Women's Cricket Association of India in 1973 has now borne fruit because of his vision and belief. Mahendra Kumar Sharma, a young cricket enthusiast from Lucknow, finally put women's cricket on the Indian map. He conducted the first ever national tournament amongst only three teams -- Maharashtra, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh -- in Pune.

London, May 24 (Ians) Former England woman cricketer Isa Guha wants a players' association for India women cricketers after British newspaper The Telegraph reported that Indian cricket board hasn't paid prize money due to them for T20 World Cup in 2020. Harmanpreet Kaur-led India had reached final of the tournament.
"Women are made to feel grateful for progress but there is still so much to be done to reach equity (& that isn't just equal pay). Players associations are a vital part of reaching this. India women will dominate the global stage when as much thought goes into their game as the men," wrote Guha while quote-tweeting the report on her timeline.
"While the men are at a different level there are still base level equities in player welfare. Things like payment/contract times, well-being support networks, domestic structure prof[essional] support, maternity provisions, retirement planning are all things can be gained from...
