Warning: The article contains spoilers for the season finale of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water”!
On April 4, the 10-person jury of “Australian Survivor” voted unanimously to award the 500,000 grand prize to Mark Wales. Co-runners-up Shay Lajoie and Chrissy Zaremba both received zero votes. Host Jonathan Lapaglia live-tweeted the finale, and he suspects Shay’s poor jury management is part of the reason why she failed to earn a single vote. “Damn….the Jury were clearly not happy with Shay’s self appointed 8/10 for game play….but adding an extra half point was the salt in the wound,” he wrote.

Only two episodes and five players remain in the “Blood V Water” hunt to find the next “Australian Survivor.” This season we saw the American Queen Sandra Diaz-Twine journey to the Down Under with her daughter Nina Twine to compete as one of 12 pairs of loved ones in the “blood versus water” format of the reality TV franchise. With no pair left standing together in the game, the final two installments of the season will determine whether Chrissy Zaremba, Josh Millgate, Kj Austin, Mark Wales or Shay Lajoie outplayed, outwitted and outlasted 23 others to become the latest “sole Survivor.”
Below, we lay out our “Australian Survivor” finale power rankings of the Top 5, assessing first how likely it is for each of them to make the Final 3 and second how much of the jury is poised to actually consider them worthy of the prize. Do you agree with our take on...

Day 40 on “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” proved to be the end of the road for Samantha “Sam” Gash, one of the most cutthroat players in the history of the game. Talk about #JusticeforJesse!
To recap, Sam and husband Mark Wales had two hidden idols between them, plus Mark had the immunity necklace around his neck, when they stepped into tribal council in the 20th episode. Despite being warned by alliance member Josh Millgate that Mark should play an idol for Sam, the married couple rolled the dice … and Sam ended up being blindsided. Following Sam’s elimination, the surviving players all exited the tribal council area and then host Jonathan Lapaglia broke from tradition and asked jury member Jesse Hansen, who had previously been betrayed by Sam, whether he “enjoyed” her blindside. “That was flipping epic,” the kid stated enthusiastically.

Phase two of the competition has officially kicked into high gear, with the Red (Blood) tribe and the Blue (Water) tribe merging into one group. Khanh Ong and Melissa “Mel” Chiang were the first two boots of the Purple (Lava) tribe, and they’re both now members of the jury that will decide who ultimately wins the $500,000 grand prize.
Of the remaining 11 players, only Mark is holding onto a hidden immunity idol. Amazingly, he decided to keep that information from his wife Sam when the tribes merged, claiming he would have told her at a later date.

After two weeks (that’s six episodes) of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water,” Queen Sandra Diaz-Twine is still in the game. For all you “Survivor” fans who aren’t able to watch, Gold Derby recapped this week’s episodes — Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6 — and we’ll be covering the show all throughout the season. To help keep you up to speed on what’s going down Down Under, we’ll also be providing weekly power rankings of the players still in the hunt to become Australia’s ninth “sole survivor.”
This season is modeled after the 27th and 29th editions of the main franchise in that it features pairs of players connected by blood, all in the hopes of answering the age-old question: Is blood truly thicker than water? On Day 1, host Jonathan Lapaglia split those pairs up between two tribes: the Red tribe representing blood and the Blue tribe representing water.

Even though she’s safe, she knows she’s on the bottom.

The second episode of “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” followed a similar trajectory to the season premiere, with the Blue (Water) team winning the reward competition and the Red (Blood) team taking the immunity challenge. (That meant Red tribe member Sandra Diaz-Twine was safe yet again.) Worldwide interest in “Australian Survivor” has never been higher, and that’s no doubt thanks to the casting of Sandra Diaz-Twine, the iconic American player who was the first person to win twice (“Pearl Islands” and “Heroes vs. Villains”). Now, Queen Sandra is back in the hunt for her third career crown, and she’s bringing her daughter, Alanna “Nina” Twine, along with her. This year’s cycle is “Blood V Water” and will feature 12 pairs of loved ones duking it out Down Under for the ultimate prize of $500,000.
