Julian Alvarez’s opening goal for City was quickly equalized by Tim Ream. London, Sep 3 (Ians) Manchester City remain top of the Premier League with four wins from four games after beating Fulham, while Tottenham moved into second after an impressive win away to Burnley.
Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for City half hour into the game before Tim Ream equalized for Fulham two minutes later on Saturday night.
Nathan Ake’s header made it 2-1 on the stroke of halftime with Fulham asking for a positional offside, which the Var didn’t give and another hat-trick from Erling Haaland – the first a trademark finish when through on goal, the second a powerfully hit penalty and the third a crisp finish inside the box – sealed the win, Xinhua reports.
Lyle Foster gave Burnley a fourth minute lead at home to Tottenham, but they were then blown away by another impressive display from Ange Postecoglou’s side.

London, Aug 31 (Ians) Coach Gareth Southgate has kept faith with two senior players when naming his 26-man squad for England’s two games during the forthcoming international break.
Southgate included Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson in the squad, despite Maguire remaining out of favour at Manchester United and without an appearance so far this season and Henderson opting to move to Saudi Arabia, which represents a less competitive competition than the Premier League.
The coach has handed a debut call-up to Chelsea defender Levi Colwill and recalled AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori and Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell, who missed the World Cup, while Arsenal’s in-form Eddie Nketiah also gets the nod, reports Xinhua.

London, Aug 28 (Ians) Manchester City narrowly escaped defeat, overcoming Sheffield United 2-1 to clinch the top spot in the Premier League.
Erling Haaland put the reigning champions ahead in the 63rd minute with a robust header, making up for his earlier penalty miss against the post, reports Xinhua.
With Pep Guardiola recuperating from a back surgery in Barcelona, deputy Juanma Lillo took the helm in the City dugout. Still, the team’s strategy remained unchanged. By the time Haaland scored, City had launched 16 shots and earned 10 corners, while Sheffield United had none.
At 85 minutes, Sheffield United’s Jaydon Bogle leveled the score with a forceful shot from City’s right flank, making it 1-1.
However, in the 89th minute, Rodri secured City’s win with a decisive left-footed strike.
In other matches, Liverpool, despite being a man down after Virgil Van Dijk’s red card, clinched a thrilling 2-1 victory against Newcastle.

London, Aug 27 (Ians) West Ham United led Premier League on Saturday night with an impressive 3-1 win away to Brighton.
David Moyes’ side made light of Brighton’s positive start to the campaign as they led 3-0 before Brighton scored a late consolation goal, reports Xinhua.
James Ward-Prowse put West Ham ahead in the first half after taking advantage of a poor backpass. Jarrod Bowen and the impressive Michail Antonio scored the second and third goals in the second half, before Pascal Gross netted a late consolation for the home side.
James Maddison opened the scoring as Tottenham continued their unbeaten start under Ange Postecoglou with a 2-0 win away to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime.
The England midfielder turned in Pape Sarr’s smart pass in the 17th minute. Although Bournemouth improved after the break, Dejan Kulusevski doubled Tottenham’s advantage in the 63rd minute after good work from Son Heung-Min.

London, Aug 14 (Ians) Chelsea and Liverpool played to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in an intriguing Premier League opener.
With Mauricio Pochettino making his Chelsea managerial debut and new additions to their squad, the Blues started slowly. Liverpool asserted dominance early, with a rejuvenated Luis Diaz capitalising on Mohamed Salah’s precise cross from the right, reports Xinhua.
Chelsea gradually found their rhythm and equalized when Axel Disasi capitalized on questionable defending, netting a goal in the 37th minute. A potentially goal-bound effort from Ben Chilwell was later deemed offside. Both teams showed glimpses of brilliance, but their performances hinted at the need for more reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
While Brentford and Tottenham both missed key forwards, the teams showcased an exhilarating 2-2 draw, with all goals recorded in the first half. Tottenham’s new coach Ange Postecoglou watched his side go ahead in the 11th minute,...

London, Aug 13 (Ians) Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.
A goal from Eddie Nketiah, who was starting due to Gabriel Jesus’ knee injury, and a wonderful curling shot from Bukayo Saka put Arsenal 2-0 ahead after 32 minutes, reports Xinhua.
Mikel Arteta’s side controlled the first half, but Forest defended in depth and pulled a late goal back from Taiwo Awoniyi in the 82nd minute, although they were unable to threaten the Arsenal goal in the closing minutes.
Newcastle United got off to a flying start with a 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa, who are expected to do well this season.
New signings Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes were both on the scoresheet, with Tonali opening the scoring after just six minutes and Barnes netting Newcastle’s fifth of the game.

New Delhi, June 8 (Ians) Jarrod Bowen scored the winning goal in the 90th minute as West Ham United secured an incredible 2-1 win over AFC Fiorentina to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy. This was West Ham’s first major continental title since the 1965 European Cup Winners’ Cup and a first piece of silverware since 1980’s Fa Cup.
West Ham made it through the whole campaign unbeaten with their final record standing at 14 wins and one draw.
“This year we’ve gone unbeaten in Europe, which is incredible. Being in the Europa League next season will be a thrill again. The moments when you win at the last minute of the game and get to celebrate with your family don’t happen often. It can go against you but tonight is a brilliant feeling. This competition has been great for us; the players have been remarkable,” West Ham manager David Moyes told BT Sport.

London, April 17 (Ians) Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to four points over Manchester City, who have a game in hand, after a dramatic afternoon saw them draw 2-2 at West Ham’s London Stadium.
Arsenal looked to be cruising to a comfortable win when Gabriel Jesus put them ahead over David Moyes’ strugglers after seven minutes, and Martin Odegaard doubled the lead three minutes later, reports Xinhua.
West Ham dug in and got back into the match in the 33rd minute, thanks to Said Benrahma’s penalty. Bukayo Saka had the chance to again extend Arsenal’s lead from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute but sent his effort well wide.

London, Jan 23 (Ians) Striker Eddie Nketiah scored a last-minute winner to give Arsenal a 3-2 win at home to Manchester United and retain their five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, with a game less played.
The striker scored a left-foot volley in the 90th minute to decide an edge-of-the-seat game that Arsenal deserved to win, although it also highlighted Manchester United’s continued improvement under Erik ten Hag, reports Xinhua news agency.
Marcos Rashford’s hot streak continued in the 17th minute when he put United ahead, but Nketiah’s first goal of the match quickly leveled the scores seven minutes later.
Bukayo Saka put Arsenal ahead in the 53rd minute, only for Lisandro Martinez’s diving header six minutes later to leave things all square.

London, Jan 22 (Ians) Liverpool and Chelsea drew 0-0 at Anfield, a result that probably pleased Chelsea more than Liverpool but only served to highlight the problems the two sides are currently facing.
Chelsea had an early goal from Kai Havertz ruled out for offside, as they controlled the first half and gave Liverpool’s defense constant problems with high crosses into the penalty area, reports Xinhua news agency.
The second half was more even, but neither side really deserved to take all three points as Mykhailo Mudryk made his debut for Chelsea.
“Overall, a positive day, other than the fact we wanted three points. We’ve had a tough period but the group has stayed together and remains calm,” commented Chelsea coach Graham Potter after the final whistle.

London, Oct 20 (Ians) Manchester United produced arguably their best performance of the season to defeat Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford as they remained in the top-five position.
Tottenham went into Wednesday night’s game in third place in the Premier League but were outclassed by United, who opened the scoring through Fred in the 47th minute and should have been out of sight by the time Bruno Fernandes added their second, with Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris making a string of magnificent saves.
Darwin Nunez’s 22nd-minute goal was enough for Liverpool to beat West Ham United to build on their weekend victory over Manchester City.
The Uruguayan headed home a cross from the left and was unlucky to see another effort bounce back off the post, although Liverpool also had a let-off when Jarrod Bowen’s penalty was well saved by Alisson.

London, Oct 18 (Ians) The Premier League has a full list of midweek fixtures, with the majority of the matches to be played on Wednesday night.
What would have been the biggest game of the week, a clash between Arsenal and Manchester City, has been postponed to allow the Gunners to play a Europa League tie against Psv Eindhoven, but there is still plenty on offer.
Liverpool’s home game against West Ham allows Jurgen Klopp’s men to close the gap on the top of the table after their weekend victory over Manchester City.
The game will show what Liverpool’s fitness levels are like against a rival that is improving after a slow start to the campaign, and forwards Jarrod Bowen, Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta will pose a threat to the home defense.
There are two derbies on Wednesday, with Bournemouth at home to Southampton and Brentford entertaining Chelsea.

London, Sep 15 (Ians) England coach Gareth Southgate has called Brentford striker Ivan Toney into his squad for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League games against Italy and Germany.
However, there is no place for Manchester United duo of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho just two months away from the start of the World Cup.
Southgate’s final squad before naming players who will go to Qatar is always going to be looked at with extra interest. Although Rashford is suffering from a slight injury, Sancho’s place on the plane must now be in serious doubt, reports Xinhua.
26-year-old Toney gets his chance after scoring 17 Premier League goals and giving six assists in just over a season with Brentford. He is an effective penalty taker and also a threat in the air and set-pieces.

London, Sep 4 (Ians) Premier League saw yet another Video Assistant Referee (Var) drama on Saturday as West Ham United manager labelled the decision to disallow a late goal for his side against Chelsea as ‘a ridiculously bad decision’ following their 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
West Ham manager David Moyes was left fuming after their late 89th minute equaliser got disallowed by Var over a suspected foul on Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the lead up to the goal. Moyes labelled the decision as ‘ridiculously bad’ which eventually led to West Ham’s 1-2 loss against Thomas Tuchel’s men.
“It was a scandalous decision today and I have spoken about it probably three or four times already before I have come to you and I just feel as if there’s not much more to say but that it’s a scandalous decision. It was never, never, never anything.

London, Sep 4 (Ians) Former Champions Chelsea came back from a goal deficit to overcome West Ham United 2-1 in a home encounter here.
The match came alive in the second half and things came to a head in the frantic final few minutes as both teams tried their best.
There was little sign of what was to come during a largely uneventful first half, where neither team really threatened the opposition goalkeeper, despite Chelsea enjoying the vast majority of possession against a West Ham side who were happy to sit back and defend.
However, midway through the second session, the visitors somehow took the lead completely against the run of play. Edouard Mendy managed to claw a dangerous corner away from his goal but was floored by a bundle of bodies in the process, meaning when the ball came back in there was nothing he could do to prevent Michail Antonio...

Ashton (United Kingdom), Aug 28 (Ians) Pablo Fornals struck a late winner as struggling club West Ham United picked up their first three points of the Premier League season against Aston Villa at Villa Park here on Sunday.
The Spain midfielder saw his deflected shot leap up and over goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez to secure all three points against Aston Villa with 15 minutes to play — and strike for the third game in a row against Sunday’s opponents.
Ezri Konsa’s disallowed effort in the first half was the closest the hosts came to a goal, but West Ham stood tall to hold on to an important victory — their fifth in a row against Villa. Their first three points of the season take the Hammers to the 16th spot from four matches. Ashton Villa too have three points and are placed a spot above them in the table.

The England soccer team’s wives and girlfriends could be heading to Netflix. It’s understood the streamer is in early stage discussions with All3Media-owned Optomen TV over a reality series that will shoot during the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
According to The Sun, which first reported the news, Optomen has approached several of England soccer stars’ partner — who are often referred to as ‘Wags’ (Wives and Girlfriends) in the British press — about appearing in the show.
The series will follow the women during England’s stay in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in November and December, filming their everyday lives.
Those reportedly approached include Love Island winner Dani Dyer, who dates attacker Jarrod Bowen, Manchester City winger Jack Grealish’s girlfriend Sasha Attwood and Anoushka Santos, wife of defender Luke Shaw. The Sun claims “very substantial fees” have been offered.
