If the lyrics of Fergie’s chart-topping hit “Glamorous” as a fitting soundtrack don’t clue you into the aesthetics of makeup brand Tarte’s recent influencer trip, the countless videos flooding TikTok for-you-pages certainly will. Last week, Tarte sent a group of makeup, lifestyle, and fashion influencers on an all-expenses paid trip to a Four Seasons hotel on the Polynesian island of Bora Bora, where they drank, partied, and at one point, danced next to a life-sized...

“I’m used to being one of one when I walk in the room, unfortunately, but in a room like today, I feel so much love because there’s so many of us,” Canadian pop star Lu Kala (@igobylu), one of this year’s honorees, said during a panel moderated by TikTok’s #BlackTikTok community manager Alexzi Girma.

This week’s viral controversy has everything — two all-expenses-paid brand trips, major influencers, dozens of deleted videos, an apology in the form of a Get Ready With Me tutorial, a Formula 1 race, the late singer Prince, and an ongoing conversation about what kind of treatment companies owe creators of color. The brand at the center of all this? Tarte Cosmetics.
Like most internet drama, the trouble began on social media. On April 25, Tarte hosted a two-week influencer extravaganza in Turks and Caicos, at the former estate of late R&b singer Prince.

Fans of Lady Whistledown and Kenny Loggins should keep their eyes trained on YouTube this week.
The video platform's VP of Americas, Tara Walpert-Levy, kicked off this year's NewFronts with a pair of Monday morning announcements. On May 3, beauty star Jackie Aina will lead a live shopping event that will feature items inspired by the Netflix series Bridgerton. Then, on May 4, YouTube will team up with Paramount to live stream the premiere of the incoming film sequel Top Gun: Maverick.
The Bridgerton event will feature Aina and makeup artist Pat McGrath. The stream will go live on the Netflix YouTube channel and will "honor the beauty, fandom, and regency" of Bridgerton, which recently wrapped up its second season. McGrath has created an exclusive line of products in collaboration with the historical romance show, and live stream viewers will be able to explore them thanks to YouTube's abundance of e-commerce features.

YouTube has announced the creator lineup for its first live shopping event next week, as it lays out a larger vision for on-platform shopping, which is being shaped by new global managing director for YouTube Shopping Bridget Dolan.
YouTube’s first event to tout its ecommerce tools, the Holiday Stream & Shop, kicks off on Nov. 15. During the weeklong event, creators will be selling new products at special discounts from their own brands. Participants include Donut Media, Gordon Ramsay, Patrick Starrr, Jackie Aina (pictured above), Manny Mua, and MrBeast.
That said, the event will kick off with The Merrell Twins hosting sponsored gift guide of sorts in partnership with Samsung, Verizon, and Walmart.

Justin Bieber busted out the classics for the 2021 Met Gala, and a certain Gen Z star in particular was loving every second of it. Addison Rae was among the A-list attendees at the high-profile New York City bash on Monday, Sept. 13, and she was clearly thrilled that Justin performed a surprise concert during the Metropolitan Museum of Art event. At one point, as Justin performed one of his breakthrough hits, "Baby," social media star Jackie Aina shared footage to her Instagram Story of Addison, 20, having a blast while dancing enthusiastically and singing along to every word. The other guests in the background appeared to be much more subdued about the performance, but that certainly didn't...

Jackie Aina grew up in L.A.’s San Gabriel Valley, which she’s previously described as “kind of a hood and kind of suburban.” But that was her experience growing up in La Puente, a relatively poor community just south of West Covina, where Aina was raised in a three-bedroom, one bathroom house she shared with eight family members. Today, the 33-year-old is now arguably YouTube’s top Black beauty guru, and one of the internet’s top beauty gurus in general — right alongside big names like Jeffree Star, Jaclyn Hill, Nikkie de Jager, James Charles and Tati Westbrook — with millions in the proverbial bank.
So while she still lives in the San Gabriel Valley, Aina’s residential circumstances have changed dramatically. The veteran influencer has bought a $6 million mansion in the wealthy city of Arcadia, just east of Pasadena and immediately west of Monrovia and Bradbury. All-new and completed this year,...

The White House is tapping YouTube stars for vaccine messaging, as Joe Biden and Anthony Fauci appear in new videos released on Monday that were part of a virtual town hall in an effort to reach young audiences unsure or hesitant to get the shots.
Among those doing interviews are the stars of Brave Wilderness, hosted by Nathaniel “Coyote” Peterson and Mark Vins, who have an outdoor adventure channel, and Manuel Gutierrez Jr., known as Manny Mua, and Jackie Aina.

Jackie Aina's beauty career began long before many of YouTube's most famous influencers turned on their cameras. It was August 2009 and YouTube was a budding community for makeup artists to modestly share their tips, a sharp contrast from the high production value and fanfare of today. "I might as well have been a completely different person," the 33-year-old California native exclusively told E! News. "I was living in Hawaii, I was married, I was in the Reserves." With a budding interest in makeup and without full-time work, Aina was encouraged by a friend to start uploading her own content. "My best friend used to always tell me, 'You're...

Jackie Aina is looking to set the mood with her very own candle collection.
Aina has unveiled a new brand dubbed Forvr Mood (presumably pronounced Forever Mood) that could eventually encompass other products but launching with a range of four candles. Forvr Mood marks the first standalone brand launched by Aina, a massively influential beauty vlogger with 3.5 million subscribers and roughly 5 million monthly views. Aina has collaborated with beauty brands like Too Faced and Anastasia Beverly Hills to launch one-off products in the past, though Forvr Mood arrives as something of a curveball, as Aina has also teased the launch of her own beauty brand in recent months.
The candles will officially bow on Aug. 10, but consumers can sign up for early access to purchase on Aug. 4 -- Aina’s birthday. The four initial scents are named Caked Up, Matcha Business, Left On Read, and Cuffing Season.

Jackie Aina, a top beauty vlogger who is also a powerful voice for racial equality in the cosmetics industry and beyond -- in terms of advocating for diverse shade ranges and other forms of Black representation on social media and at the corporate level -- has joined a new powerful call to action.
Yesterday, Aina posted on Igtv to help amplify the #PullUpOrShutUp challenge -- a movement launched by Nigerian-born entrepreneur Sharon Chuter, who is the founder of cosmetics brand Uoma Beauty. The movement seeks to challenge brands who have sent out messages of public support in the wake of the George Floyd protests to go beyond public relations messaging and bring about lasting, systemic change.
To do so, #PullUpOrShutUp is asking brands to release, within 72 hours, the number of Black employees they have at their corporate and executive levels. (The movement says its benchmark for this figure is 10%). “Do...

Jackie Aina Calls Out Brands for Not Supporting the Black Community in Light of George Floyd's Death
YouTube star Jackie Aina is giving us another reason to stan her. The 32-year-old beauty guru has always used her massive social media platform to uplift the black community and other people of color in the cosmetics and fashion industry. And that's exactly what she did earlier this week. In light of George Floyd's death, Jackie has spoken out over the incident—which involved a police officer kneeling on Floyd's neck, while three other officers stood and watched. In video footage captured by bystanders, Floyd stated multiple times that he could not breathe as the officer continued to kneel on his neck. Moments later, he died. The YouTube star urged her colleagues and beauty and...
