Twenty-four Twitch streamers are going head-to-head in a Tekken tournament organized by fighting game content creator Sajam.
The Sajam Tekken Slam will have streamers like Sykkuno, LilyPichu, Disguised Toast, Sydeon, emilyywang, and Scarra split into teams of four. Those teams are currently spending a week training with fighting game experts Phidx, JustinWong, JoeyFury, Brawlpro, ThenameisMYK, and KawaiiFaceMiles.
Once they’re coached up, teams will duke it out during the livestreamed tournament, which runs March 8 and 10 on Sajam’s Twitch channel (140K followers).
Per Esports Illustrated, the tournament will be “Waseda style,” where each of the four players will be matched to an opponent from the competing team. The four pairs will compete, with the team who gets the most wins out of those four matchups moving on to the next stage of the tournament. If the teams wind up with a 2-2 draw, their coaches will play, and the winning...

After ten years of streaming on Twitch, Pokimane has moved over to YouTube.
At least, for now.
Pokimane, who’s long been one of Twitch’s most-followed (to the tune of 9.3 million people) and most-watched female streamers, dropped an abrupt announcement Jan. 30 that she was leaving the platform.
“the end of an era,” she tweeted. “twitch has been my home for a decade..but it’s time to say thank you for all the memories and love during my League, Fortnite, & Among us days.”
Speculation ran rampant after the tweet, with many people wondering if she’d been poached by Kick, which has signed multimillion-dollar, nonexclusive deals with some of Twitch’s big names, including Amouranth and xQc. Others wondered if she’d follow Valkyrae, Sykkuno, LilyPichu, and more to secure an exclusive deal with YouTube.
Turns out it’s none of the above. Pokimane later revealed that she’d...

After taking over Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, the NFL is making a bid to capture audiences on Tuesday as well. The most-watched sports league in the U.S. is bringing back NFL Tuesday Night Gaming, a competition series that features both creators and professional athletes.
Last season, in an effort to establish credibility in digital gaming communities, the NFL teamed up with Enthusiast Gaming to establish Tuesday Night Gaming. The show’s format is simple: It pairs creators with football players and pits them against one another in various video games. Titles featured in the first season of Tuesday Night Gaming included Rocket League and Fortnite.
Season two will feature more of the same — with a few added twists. The slate kicks off on September 5 with a “field day” hosted by hip-hop star Quavo. Instead of playing video games, four assembled teams will participate in a variety of outdoor activities,...

Grace Van Dien‘s tenure on Stranger Things only lasted a single episode, but she’s settling into a longer career arc on Twitch. The actress who broke out by portraying the doomed cheerleader Chrissy is now imagining a sitcom featuring popular streamers like Disguised Toast, Valkyrae, Sykkuno, and Pokimane.
Chrissy’s untimely demise in the first episode of Stranger Things‘ fourth season made Van Dien a household name (and the subject of many memes). Though she is Hollywood royalty — the daughter of actor Casper Van Dien and the granddaughter of Golden Age star Robert Mitchum — Van Dien is also an avid gamer who enjoys Valorant and Overwatch. Her personal account became one of the top Twitch channels at the height of Chrissy-mania.
Recent developments have transformed Van Dien’s Twitch presence from a side hustle to a principal focus. She recently explained that a film produced propositioned her on set,...

Nearly a year after Mike Aragon left Twitch to become the CEO of Lululemon’s interactive Mirror product, his replacement has been named. Laura Lee, whose former roles include gigs at YouTube, NBCUniversal, and MTV, is taking over as Twitch’s Chief Content Officer.
Lee will report to Twitch President Dan Clancy. In a statement shared by Variety, Clancy said that Lee will “define our content strategy” in order to help streamers “build vibrant communities on our service.”
Lately, community has become one of Twitch’s major themes. The platform is likely responding to pressure from YouTube, which has poached several top stars from its Amazon-owned competitor. YouTube has signed streamers who typically collaborate with one another — when multiple members of those communities make the switch, the stragglers feel pressure to move on as well.

Streamers who spend too much time online are often told that they should go outside and “touch grass.” Across a recent series of videos, several prominent 100 Thieves partners took that advice literally. 20 members of the esports and entertainment organization — including co-owners Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop and Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter — bid farewell to the second-annual Creator Camp by playing a massive game of ‘2 Truths 1 Lie.’
Creator Camp, first organized last year, invites 100 Thieves creators to a lakeside setting, where they can partake in classic summertime games and activities. The 2022 edition of the get-together has a new sponsor in AT&T, but its premise is mostly the same. If you’ve ever wanted to see extremely competitive gamers play incredibly low-stakes games, Creator Camp is the series for you.
The finale of the 2022 Camp presents the 100 Thieves crew with a classic campfire format. By playing ‘2 Truths 1 Lie,’ these creators revealed some fascinating facts about themselves.

During a recent stream, Leslie “Fuslie” Fu said a tearful goodbye to her beloved Twitch viewers, which led to speculation that she would soon sign with YouTube Gaming. Days later, Fu officially announced her move to YouTube by strumming a guitar, singing a song, and hanging out with her friends (and fellow YouTube signees) Valkyrae, Sykkuno, and LilyPichu.
But if Fu was so attached to her Twitch community, why would she abandon them to sign with YouTube? There are cynical answers to that question, including the ones having to do with money, but Ludwig Ahgren has a few other ideas. The YouTube-signed creator took to his Mogul Mail channel to discuss how two recent additions to YouTube Gaming — Fuslie and FaZe Swagg — fit into the platform’s roster.
Ahgren believes that the guest stars in Fu’s video explain why YouTube was eager to sign her. The former Among Us...

The exodus of top Twitch talent continues unabated.
The latest big name to sign an exclusive streaming contract with YouTube Gaming is FaZe Swagg (real name Kris Lamberson), who entertains millions of followers with his Call of Duty gameplay.
Lamberson, who was previously known simply as Swagg, joined FaZe Clan in 2020. Like the other members of the publicly-traded entertainment organization, he has used his platform to bridge the gap between gaming and sports. He is one of the members of Nuke Squad, a team that is now closely associated with FaZe. One of the members of that Squad is Anthony Davis, an NBA All-Star who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaking of the Lakers, Lamberson also has ties to that team’s most iconic player. After getting signed to the gaming division at management firm Underscore Talent, the streamer landed himself another representation deal earlier this year. He...

The agency has also signed the VTubers known as Shxtou and Bao, who stream on both YouTube and Twitch using virtual avatars in lieu of showing their real-world faces.

Sykkuno is YouTube Gaming’s latest talent snag. The soft-spoken now-former Twitch streamer announced May 2 that he’s signed an exclusive livestreaming deal with YouTube. And, like YouTube and Twitch have done with most of their high-profile signings since the ill-fated Ninja-to-Mixer exodus, his move was unveiled with a custom video. “This is where it all […]

In the anime Tribe Nine, roving bands of baseball players face one another extreme version of the sport. For the show's English dub, distributor Funimation decided to give one of the titular tribes a star-powered lineup. Top streamers Corpse Husband, Disguised Toast, Sykkuno, and Valkyrae have voice roles in the series, with the latter three creators teaming up as members of the Hannya tribe.
12 episodes of Tribe Nine's English dub are available through Funimation, and most of the featured creators appear in the 11th installment. On YouTube, Disguised Toast (whose real name is Jeremy Wang) shared his reaction to his v/o work, which involved a lot of grunting. Based on his commentary, he fared a lot better in the recording booth than Sykkuno; the soft-spoken streamer needed several takes to nail his role as a giggling villain in a trenchcoat.
