Simon Hamilton(VII)
Simon Hamilton is an Interior Designer, Presenter, Careers Mentor and Diversity & Inclusion Consultant based in London. His experience as a creative within the built environment spans three decades, initially working as an Interior Designer in several sectors. After gaining substantial experience freelancing, he set up his first design consultancy in 2002.
During his career, he has utilized his industry experience to specialize in design recruitment for architects and designers to clients in the U.K., Europe and Asia. In 2010, Simon was elected to the position of International Director for the British Institute of Interior Design. In this voluntary role, which he held for four years, he hosted events in the US, Europe and Asia as an ambassador for the design body.
Coupled with his dedication for sharing his design experience and mentoring talent, he established Design Career Consulting in 2019 providing comprehensive career advice services to private clients, practices and universities including the University of Plymouth, Heriot-Watt University, the University of East London and Nottingham Trent University to name a few.
In early 2020, Simon was appointed as Editor and Content Curator of the Resource Hub of United In Design, a charity set up to address the lack of diversity and inclusion in interior design. He provides supporting services for their Apprenticeship Programme. Simon is a consultant and avid campaigner for diversity and inclusion across the industry. In this capacity, he works closely with the British Institute of Interior Design as a Committee member and has been appointed as Project Consultant at the University of Plymouth for their Equality and Diversity initiative: The GATEway Project.
He works as a visiting lecturer which has included The Royal College of Art, London, The Interior Design School, London, Heriot-Watt University, UAL Central Saint Martins, The University of East London, Nottingham Trent University and The University of Plymouth.
As a keynote speaker and presenter, Simon was invited to host the Surface Design Show Awards 2022 and he continues his industry activities by regularly participating in The London Design Festival and Clerkenwell Design Week.
He is a jury member for the DNA Paris Awards 2022, in addition to being a Steering Group member for the Cockpit Arts and the New Craftsmen Award. In Spring 2022 Simon became a Patron of the Design Museum London to support the industry and celebrate the value of design in everyday life.
