From the "Italian Contemporary Film Festival", screening June 11 to June 19, 2015, Sneak Peek footage from director Sergio Navarretta's new romantic comedy "The Colossal Failure of the Modern Relationship", starring Krista Bridges, Enrico Colantoni, David Cubitt, Brooke Palsson and Tony Nappo:
"...'Cat' has a mediocre job, a mundane social life and her relationship with 'Freddy' has been, well…uninspired. Enter 'Richard', Freddy’s boss. Charming, gregarious, astute, and shockingly self-confident, he promises to be everything Freddy is not.
"Cat and Richard’s brief encounter evolves into an affair. Overwhelmed by her own guilt, however, she breaks it off to make a final, sincere attempt to reignite the flame with Freddy with a romantic trip to wine country.
"Nothing, however, can prepare Cat for what happens when she finds out Richard – accompanied by his perky, perfect young girlfriend, 'Amy' – is joining them..."

Title: Keyhole Director: Guy Maddin Starring: Jason Patric, Isabella Rossellini, Louis Negin, Brooke Palsson, Udo Kier Canadian auteur Guy Maddin — he of the black-and-white art film — attempts to give genre a bit of a nominal spin in much the same way that Lars von Trier did last year with “Melancholia.” His stab at the cops-and-robbers template arrives in the form of ”Keyhole,” a kind of quarter-hearted siege/stand-off film cross-pollinated with psychological melodrama, and a heavy side of metaphorical import. The result, while characteristically full of some beautiful and evocative images, seems doggedly intent on achieving art status through obfuscation. Jason Patric stars as Ulysses, an on-the-lam criminal holed up with his gang inside [ Read More ]...

In a house haunted with memories, gangster and father Ulysses Pick (Jason Patric) arrives home after a long absence tow-ing the body of a teenaged girl and a bound and gagged young man. His gang waits inside his house, having shot their way past police. There is friction in the ranks. Ulysses, however, is focused on one thing: journey-ing through the house, room by room, and reaching his wife Hyacinth (Isabella Rossellini) in her bedroom upstairs. The equilibrium of the house has been disturbed and his odyssey eventually becomes an emotional tour,...

Canadians have the TV comedy market cornered. That's not me being a smug Canadian, it's just fact.
Think about it. In addition to the obvious "Second City" alumni, we've produced some serious comedic talent in this country. Maybe it's in the water. Whatever the case, this Sunday we're bidding farewell (perhaps forever) to one of the best -- if not the best -- Canadian-made TV comedies. "Less Than Kind" is finishing up its three-season run in what some are speculating might be the last-ever episode (titled 'March Fourth').
No one thought "Less Than Kind" could do it. When the patriarch of the show, Maury Chaykin, passed away in July 2010, many asked how it could possibly survive without its comedic lynchpin. The answer is simple, and has been made very clear during the season 3 run: other members of the cast, especially young Jesse Camacho, pulled it all together and put on...

Now that the fall “awards festival” circuit is finally at a close — but with Sundance looming in the distance — it’s easy to forget about Biff — the Berlin International Film Festival, that is. (See, I even have to give the name.) This might have something to do with their less-than-huge lineup; in terms of films playing in competition, last year’s biggest art house title was The Turin Horse, while the most mainstream was probably Margin Call. Nothing too slim, but not much compared to Cannes, Venice, or Tiff.
The first round of titles to play this coming February (via Twitch) do carry a few major titles, though. Among them are The Flowers of War (which we were quite ecstatic about), Guy Maddin‘s Keyhole, Extremely Loud…, Kevin Macdonald‘s Bob Marley documentary, and an expansion of Werner Herzog‘s Into the Abyss. A few other foreign titles carry potential,...

#13. Keyhole Director: Guy Maddin Cast: Jason Patric, Isabella Rossellini, Udo Kier, Louis Negin, Brooke Palsson Distributor: Rights Available Buzz: Canada's most idiosyncratic auteur, nobody love schlocky expressionism and silent film bombastics than Guy Maddin. His free-wheeling 5-minute short The Heart of the World informed the cinema world with all they needed to know about the skills that he is capable of, and his hilarious and super-personal My Winnipeg brought him a giant new legion of fans. Fluctuating between camp, hyperbolic autobiographies, and the avant-garde, there is really nothing quite like this Canadian original. The Gist: A gangster named Ulysses weaves his way through an old, ghost-infested house in vintage, Bowery-bros. fashion. A talkie (this is a necessary trait to point out when it comes to Maddin) with enough visual flair to fill a hundred time-lapse montages, it's a singular haunted house movie as only this Canuck can make them. Tiff...
