“My Lady Jane” may be chock full of corsets but this is not your average bodice ripper. A feminist retelling of the life of Lady Jane Grey – famous for being on the throne for a mere nine days before she got the chop (literally) – the series stars Emily Bader as a kickass Jane who dreams of running away from her overbearing mother and forced marriage to write a compendium about medicinal herbs.
The show, which drops today on Prime Video and is based on the books of the same name, also contains plenty of cursing (not the magical kind), anachronisms and a sprinkle of romantasy (a sub-plot involves persecution of people who can turn into animals at will). So it’s not surprising that showrunners Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn took delight in peppering the show with both Tudor and pop culture references including, in no particular order, Mark Smeaton...

A fun reunion recently happened between three Chicago P.D. stars.
Some cast members enjoy spending time together off-set, and that’s always good for a show.
In the past, fun photos have been shared on social media, like when several Chicago P.D. stars (and a Chicago Med actor) went to a Chicago Blackhawks game together.
They have also been spotted attending plays, vacationing together, and just enjoying a nice meal out as a group.
Bojana Novakovic has even entered the fold. She joined the Chicago P.D. cast as Detective Josephine Petrovic and already has been spotted out with her co-workers.
This time, a trio of Chicago P.D. stars got together for tea.

Marina Squerciati shared a fun photo to her Instagram Stories with several other Chicago P.D. stars.
Marina plays Officer Kim Burgess on the show, and she returns for Season 12 this fall.

Exclusive: Marvin Jones III (Halo), Michael Xavier (Wild Cards) and Dominic Burgess (Palm Royale) have joined the cast of Prime Video‘s graphic novel series, Criminal, in recurring roles. They join the previously announced leads: Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison and Logan Browning.
Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
Jones III will play Chester, crime boss Sebastian Hyde’s (John Hawkes) fearsome chief enforcer. Much like a seven-foot-tall man becoming a basketball player whether he likes it or not, Chester was drafted into the criminal life for his size and fearsomeness. He’s no sadist, relying on his reputation and intelligence to get his way. He speaks softly most of the time, but the threat of sudden and deadly violence is always there.

Am I Ok? (Stephanie Allyne and Tig Notaro)
A romantic comedy that functions best as a fable of friendship and self-reflection, Am I Ok? is the kind of lightweight, amiable movie that just barely earns the emotional beats at the heart of its story. Set in Los Angeles, it follows the converging life events of two best friends, Lucy (Dakota Johnson) and Jane (Sonoya Mizuno), soul sisters with opposite personalities who tell each other everything—except for the big secrets they’ve been harboring from each other. How they respond to hearing them fuels Stephanie Allyne and Tig Notaro’s gentle and wobbly feature debut. – Jake K-s. (full review)

From award-winning executive producers Dakota and Elle Fanning, showrunner Dani Sloane, and director Abby Fuller, comes “Mastermind: To Think Like A Killer,” a fascinating new perspective on the woman whose crime hunting innovations changed history. To stop serial killers, psychiatric nurse and professor Dr. Ann Burgess must first learn to think like one. With unprecedented access to the mastermind behind the development of modern serial-killer profiling, the series tells Burgess’ tenacious story and her compassion for victims which puts her at the center of solving America’s most infamous true-crime cases. From the widely known Ed Kemper and Ted Bundy to lesser-known cases like the Ski Mask Rapist, Burgess investigates and studies the victims and damaged psyches of their attackers, putting two halves of the same story together to catch a killer. Largely an unsung heroine until now, Dr. Burgess impacted not only the FBI, she also radically championed the plight of women in America.

Exclusive: Netflix is developing a feature adaptation of None of This Is True, the psychological thriller novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell, sources tell Deadline. Eleanor Burgess (Perry Mason) has been tapped to pen the script.
Netflix won rights to the book in a competitive situation that involved multiple offers out of the U.S. and UK. Actress and producer Molly Sims (Kinda Pregnant) and Modern Magic are attached to produce, with Jewell exec producing. Gaby McCormick, who brought the project in, will co-produce through Modern Magic.
Published by Simon & Schuster last July, None of This Is True follows popular podcaster Alix Summer, who while celebrating her 45th birthday at her local pub, crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her 45th birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A Chicago P.D. wedding may finally be on the horizon.

Many bumps in the road have faced Burgess and Ruzek, but they have perceived and found happiness on the other side.
Many Chicago P.D. fans have wondered when their wedding will happen, and if it will be similar to the simple ceremony Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead enjoyed.
Well, the Chicago P.D. showrunner has addressed that wedding in a new interview, giving fans hope of something fun happening in Season 12.
It also opens the door for someone intriguing to officiate the ceremony.

If you are a big fan of NBC's OneChicago universe as a whole, there is already some execution news coming your way. Even though the shows are done for the season, all three have been renewed for the next, and are expected to return this fall for the start of the 2024/25 broadcast season.
Until then, you can always look back on past episodes and revisit some of your favorites. Chicago Fire fans will likely want to return to episode 6, Port in the Storm, which was a perfect send-off for Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey, who found happiness in Oregon after a wedding in Chicago. The Chameleons are back in the terrarium. The beloved Manchester post-punk band have released the Where Are You EP, their first new music offering since 2001’s Why Call It Anything? and a preview for their upcoming new album, Arctic Moon.
Chameleons have been officially reformed since 2021, when lead singer and bassist Mark Burgess reunited with guitarist Reg Smithies for the 2022 live album Edge Sessions (Live from the Edge). They were joined by guitarist Chris Oliver and drummer Stephen Rice, and played several shows in the last two years — including a tour opening for LA goth rockers She Wants Revenge.

Yellowstone director Taylor Sheridan is slated to work on a new project that would adapt S.C. Gwynne’s book to the screen. Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History was published in 2010.

Sheridan won after a rigorous bidding. As one of his so-called passion projects, the filmmaker has been eyeing to work on this since Warner Bros. gained the rights to it.
Native American Actress Doesn’t Support Taylor Sheridan’s Upcoming Project
While others expressed excitement, Native American and Echo actress Jana Schmieding was doubtful and unimpressed. She told Yahoo Entertainment:
“I rolled my eyes so hard, they almost popped out of my face. It’s laughable that he continues to think that he’s the right person for this job. He shoots on his own ranch.

Thank goodness, Adam Ruzek is finally back.
It feels like it has been forever since we've seen the man, but those craving his reappearance can rest assured that he'll return just in time for the finale.
With Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 12 serving as the penultimate episode of the season, we can expect things to kick into high gear.
One of the most promising aspects of the "Inventory" installment is that it's "all hands on deck."
After we've spent much of the season lamenting constant character-centric installments, disappearing unit members, and cast shifts, the entire unit is on hand, leading us into the finale.
And there can't be a better thing to unite them than continuing to look into the serial killer case.
Fortunately for us, whatever progress they make regarding this case will lead to a heck of a lot of action.
Seriously. almost every promotional still we see for...

Thankfully, we survived another frustrating hiatus.
It feels like it's been forever since Chicago Pd was on our screens, and the hiatuses have been frustrating.
But alas, Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 10 is coming in hot with a ... spins wheel ... Hailey Upton installment.
By now, we're accustomed to the character-centric focus. We don't have to care for it, but we're used to it.
Despite annoyance about the formatting, the midseason premiere may feature most of the team.
Given that it has been a while since Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 9, a refresher may be necessary.
"Somos Uno" was the rather abrupt and severely underwhelming conclusion to Dante Torres' storyline with the cartel wife.
While his canoodling with Gloria was a shocking development that arose when introduced, the storyline got shoved out of sight until it resurfaced and wrapped up abruptly, making many of us wonder about the necessity of it in the first place.

South Australian Anthony Frith’s close encounter with “Sharknado” prodco The Asylum in “Mockbuster” is among five handpicked titles to be showcased at the Adelaide Film Festival Goes to Cannes showcase, held at Cannes Marché du Film on May 17.
The five works in progress range from queer adult anime, comedic doc, and traditional non-fiction to family dramas, helmed mostly by newcomers, and reflect the dynamic filmmaking community of Southern Australia, set to tempt potential co-financiers in Cannes.
So far two titles have received international backing. “Mockbuster” has been pre-sold to Giant Pictures and Drafthouse Films for North America, on top of domestic distribution in Australia via Umbrella Entertainment; Kelly Schilling’s drama “With or Without You,” handled locally by Icon Film Distribution, has been picked up by global sales agent LevelK.

If you’ve been anywhere near a television in the last couple of years, odds are you’re already familiar with Dominic Burgess. The British actor broke through in 2017’s “Feud: Bette and Joan” as actor Victor Buono, before popping up in a number of memorable appearances — playing everything from serial killer John Wayne Gacy in “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” to an accident-prone man on “The Good Place” whose hideous red boots create an existential crisis for Chidi.
Most recently, the actor has been stealing scenes as Grayman, the stylist to the grande dames (including Kristen Wiig and Allison Janney) on Apple TV’s “Palm Royale” — and as Hamish Moss, a director on the rise on “American Horror Story: Delicate.” That is, he was on the rise before the April 3 episode, in which Moss met a gruesome death at the hands of Kim Kardashian’s devilish publicist.

The new episode of Chicago P.D. returned viewers to the undercover operation Dante Torres has been working on.
It was revealed that Torres had been undercover for 36 days when the episode began. He was trying to take down the Rafael Perez drug ring (played by Julio Cesar Cedillo).
Torres was already getting too deep and had been sleeping with his informant. Actress Yara Martinez was back to continue her role as Gloria Perez (wife of the drug boss).
Rather than getting closer to answers, Torres had been relegated to working as a mechanic for the drug ring. But since the episode was focusing on him, it was clear something was about to happen.
The worse Perez treated Gloria, the more time she wanted to spend with Torres. It led to even more complications with the case.
Meanwhile, Torres spotted that a cousin to Perez was who he was leaning on...

Cringe comedy and pathos converge with unlikely grace in Dad & Step-Dad, the debut feature from director Tynan DeLong. Expanded significantly from short films that DeLong crafted with recurring collaborators Colin Burgess (recent star of Ryan Martin Brown’s debut feature Free Time) and Anthony Oberbeck, the premise of the feature is nonetheless pretty straightforward. On a weekend trip to an Airbnb in upstate New York, titular dad Jim (Burgess) and step-dad Dave (Oberbeck) quarrel incessantly, both over the affection of teenage ward Branson (played hilariously by adult Brian Fiddyment) and for inconsequential paternal bragging rights over the other. Colin Burgess and Anthony Oberbeck star in Dad & Step-Dad, an independent comedy film they co-wrote with director Tynan DeLong. It follows Jim and Dave, a dad and a step-dad, as they struggle with bonding during a weekend upstate with Branson, the 13-year-old son they share. It’s about family, communication, insecurity and the fragility of the male ego. On this episode, Burgess and Oberbeck describe the development of their comedy tastes and take us back to the improvised shorts that preceded the feature, where they were able to hone their characters and comedic sensibility before growing the project to feature-length. One of the great dilemmas facing American society in the 2020s is the question of how much time we actually need to spend working. For many, the Covid-19 pandemic and the flexible work-from-home accommodations it ushered in were evidence that they could get their jobs done without 40 hours of synchronized work each week. Others had bigger epiphanies and decided to prioritize free time over corporate glory by “quiet quitting” or abandoning their careers altogether. It feels like the country has reached a paradoxical crossroads in which many white-collar workers are deriving a higher percentage of their identity from their jobs while simultaneously looking to spend less time doing them.
But while the vague concept of “more free time” has become the MacGuffin motivating countless workaholics to make big life changes, the problem of what to actually do with it can be harder to solve. That’s a lesson that Drew...

Free Time opens on an office meeting between Drew (Colin Burgess) and his boss. Drew is dissatisfied with his data-analysis position because it’s too much data entry and too little analysis. “The computers do all of the analysis for you now. It’s really just… data,” he laments. The meeting ends unexpectedly with Drew surprising himself (and his boss) by putting in his two-week notice. It’s a savvy cold open that clues us into Drew’s lack of self-awareness being a source of amusement in the narrative to follow.
Free Time is the feature-directing debut from Ryan Martin Brown and the latest comedy from 5th Floor Pictures, a Brooklyn-based collective responsible for last year’s underrated gem Yelling Fire in an Empty Theater. After a small-yet-memorable role in Yelling Fire, actor Colin Burgess takes a big step forward here, appearing in nearly every frame of Free Time’s airtight 77 minutes.

After Blue (Bertrand Mandico)
In the post-apocalyptic nightmare of After Blue, humanity—or what’s left of it—roams a former paradise turned wasteland. The Armageddon that wrecked the Earth in some undetermined past left no machines behind, no screens, and, perhaps most conspicuously, no men. In the distant planet the human race fled to, and which writer-director Bertrand Mandico’s film is named after, “they were the first to die,” we’re warned early on: “their hairs grew inside them, and killed them.” As it was for its predecessor, The Wild Boys, After Blue is suffused in a feverish ecstasy, that wild excitement that comes from a watching one world crumble and another jutting into being from scratch, a vision of...

Janice Burgess, who as an executive, producer or creator had a hand in some of the most seminal Nickelodeon animated series of the past 20 years, died Saturday in Manhattan, according to the New York Times. She was 72.
In 1998, Burgess created the first iteration of what would eventually become The Backyardigans, a fanciful show where five animal neighbors in a communal backyard imagine new settings and adventures. The first season of 20 episodes aired in 2004, with critics praising its appeal for both kids and parents as well as its “artistic exactitude” when portraying different genres and setting.
The series ran for four seasons on Nick Jr. (through 2013) with Burgess taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program in 2008. During that time, she also worked as the story editor for Nickelodeon’s revival of Winx Club and is credited as a writer on Bubble Guppies.

Janice Burgess, the two-time Daytime Emmy winner who created the beloved animated musical series The Backyardigans for Nickelodeon, has died. She was 72.
Burgess died Saturday in hospice care in Manhattan of breast cancer, her former Nickelodeon colleague Brown Johnson told The New York Times.
The Backyardigans ran for four seasons on Nick Jr. from 2004-13 and was a big hit with preschoolers. It centered on five animal neighbors — Uniqua, Pablo, Tyrone, Tasha and Austin — who meet in their shared backyard and embark on imaginary and magical adventures, often visiting different parts of the world or traveling back or forward in time.
Burgess was a production executive at Nick Jr. when she came up with the idea for a live-action show called Me and My Friends, with the characters wearing full-body puppet costumes. When execs didn’t go for that, she suggested computer animation to get The Backyardigans greenlighted.

Seeing strong and impactful female characters on TV inspires us, rallying us to do better like these females have done whenever the chips were down.
Some of these characters have inspired us for years, like Svu’s Olivia Benson or Btvs’s Buffy Summers, while other females have only recently hit our TV screens, like The Way Home’s Del Landry. However, these female characters have resonated with us over the years.
Some of the stories may have hit too close to home, like Netflix’s Georgia Miller running from an abusive past, and we cheered her on every step of the way.
We want to honor and recognize these women during National Women’s Month. They’ve taught us that we can achieve our dreams and not let anyone mess with us.
Check out the list below:
Olivia Benson (Law & Order: Svu.)

Voight still has it.
And with a bumpy season thus far, it's a relief to know after watching Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 6 that the series also still has it.
From a full squad and intriguing case to a peek at our fearless leader, Justin callbacks, and that emotional ending, "Survival" was a strong hour.
The tone to the hour was much different, and honing in on Hank Voight in this way, barely hinting at his personal life but only doing so via how closely he took to this case, was fantastic.
As the primary character of this series and someone who has more often than not fallen to the wayside and been sidelined, I love how, similarly to what it was like for Burgess during Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 3, Voight carried nearly the entire hour by himself.
And they managed to do that while still depicting the entire unit, which...

It’s already been a pretty bleak start to Chicago P.D. Season 11 for Intelligence—and there’s more to come—so what these police officers really need is a chance to celebrate and have fun. The upcoming Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) wedding could be just that. And now, when that time comes, whenever it is, we really hope to see what Laroyce Hawkins (who plays Atwater) pitched to us when we suggested he has to be Ruzek’s best man. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Atwater marries them,” he tells TV Insider. “Every now and then, they take pages out of our personal playbooks for these characters. And Laroyce Hawkins is an ordained minister. I have been for about three years. I have married a couple before. So it would be dope to see them implement that and just to get everybody involved. Drew (Colin Burgess) believes he’s gonna have a bunch of sex if he just quits his desk job. In “Free Time” (as in reality), it doesn’t quite work out that way.
In Ryan Martin Brown’s debut feature film, shot over 10 days on the streets of New York, the main character hits a quarter-life crisis — hard. Drew chooses life over work … until he realizes life isn’t really happening while everyone else is at work. Drew quickly cycles through hobbies (including literally cycling), friends, and every which way to watch a DVD. As it turns out, what he really wants is the mundanity of structure. Drew wants a job.
If stand-up comedian and actor Burgess feels like perfect casting as the lead, well, that’s probably because the movie was written for him, Brown said. “Free Time,” distributed by Cartilage Films, also stars Rajat Suresh (“Severance”), Holmes (“Welcome to Flatch”), James Webb,...

One Piece anime is currently focusing on Blackbeard Pirates and their menace against other prominent characters from the series like Trafalgar D. Law and Cracker from the Big Mom Pirates. While Blackbeard and Burgess are seen fighting against Law, a flashback shows Cracker being attacked by Van Augur and the newly appointed member of the Blackbeard Pirates: Aokiji Kuzan.
Van Augur – One Piece
Van Augur, who is the sniper of the Blackbeard Pirates took little to no time in destroying one of the strongest members of the Big Mom Pirates. This has caused mayhem within the One Piece community because fans have known Van Augur for almost ten years but never knew how powerful he was.
This also comes as a shock because he achieved something that even Gear 4 Luffy couldn’t do. During the Whole Cake Island arc, Luffy had a lot of trouble beating Cracker, but Van Augur...

The third time is indeed the charm.
Regarding Chicago Pd's Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek, very few "ships" remain on television that have had quite the journey this pairing has.
And Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 3 marks a pivotal turning point in their relationship, the series, and television history pertaining to couples.
Burzek has cemented its place amongst some of the most noteworthy couples of television history, and that's not to diminish any of the series or the One Chicago universe's other pairings.
But unlike any of the other pairings over the span of the franchise, Burzek has such a deep, rich history that has kept viewers on edge for a full 11 seasons.
When you consider that, it's no wonder why fans have invested in this pairing. It's no small feat.
There has been a valley of highs and lows for the two since they first crossed paths with one another,...

The ending of this hour was seasons in the making.
Somehow, Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 3 was nothing like one would've envisioned from the promos, and there's a lot to parse through regarding the case and mixed feelings about it.
But they threw such a momentous occasion at us in those final moments that it's likely all anyone will be talking about for the rest of the season.
It seems Chicago Pd isn't completely dark and loveless after all.
Upstead has crumbled before our eyes after riding a high, and now Burzek has reached new heights in the most deceptively understated, quietly stable way.
The hour was a bit misleading, but continuing with the pattern of providing us with character-centric installments, this one foisted Kim Burgess into the spotlight.
And she took the lead brilliantly and beautifully the entire time.
Gabriela, I will never accept that there's such a thing as an illegal human being.

A new Chicago P.D. episode is finally going to feature Officer Dante Torres.
The energetic Intelligence member had been furloughed to open the season, with the writers explaining that Torres was with his mom.
His absence was glaring, especially since the team still misses Detective Jay Halstead (played by Jesse Lee Soffer).
Actor Benjamin Levy Aguilar joined the Chicago P.D. cast while Halstead was still around, but he became integral in Halstead’s absence during Season 10.
Chicago P.D. Season 11 began without Torres, as the writers focused on other characters to carry the stories.
The Chicago P.D. season premiere focused on Detective Hailey Upton, the second episode was about Officer Adam Ruzek and his struggles to return to work, and the January 31 episode featured Office Kim Burgess.
Now it’s finally Torres time.

Faithful Peter’s set quite the trap, but will he catch any traitors?
In last week’s episode of The Traitors, the former bachelor slipped some incorrect info to Ct, Dan and Parvati — three people he suspected were traitors — by telling them that he and Janelle were the recipients of the shields. The goal: To lure a traitor into murdering Bergie or Trishelle, the true shield holders, thereby cancelling the murder. And if the murder was cancelled, then one of Peter’s suspects was surely a traitor.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago P.D. Season 11 Episode 3 “Safe Harbor.”] Marina Squerciati shines in this Kim Burgess-centric Chicago P.D., which ends on a moment that fans have been waiting for—and this time, it’s for good, the star says. Burgess takes the lead in an investigation into a shooting at a migrant camp at a precinct in another district, and she’s the one to uncover that an officer was behind it—to cover up a rape—and bring him in. She’s also willing to blur the lines when she uses her money to buy a witness fake immigration papers (the woman was taken away by Ice before she could hand them over). At the end of the episode, Burgess joins Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) in their bedroom and notes that women like the ones connected to the case are just fighting for what they have now. “Promise ...

Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from tonight’s episode of Chicago P.D. titled, “Safe Harbour.”
Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) had her work cut out for her in tonight’s episode of NBC’s Chicago P.D. As the only Spanish speaker available to take on a case involving a murdered Venezuelan refugee, Burgess is all in but soon discovers a potential suspect is closer than she realizes.
Although the episode could’ve done a much better job in handling the controversial conversation around immigration—take a drink every time they use the word “illegal”—Burgess captivates in those moments where, instead of judging her fellow humanss, she goes into action while being sensitive to the plight of the refugees using humanity as her preferred weapon.
“Safe Harbour” opens with the slaying of a Venezuelan refugee who was shot to death in a drive-by shooting by an unknown assassin.

The Intelligence Unit is back, baby!
It feels like a lifetime since Chicago Pd went off the air, but after a long hiatus, the countdown is almost over until we're back in business fighting crime with our favorite first responders.
And in the wake of the news that Hailey Upton is departing, there's a lot of excitement and curiosity about Chicago Pd Season 11 Episode 1.
With her pending departure and a truncated season, fans can't wait to delve into the series and see what's to come.
But one of the more exciting aspects of the season is the promo still.
Typically, you expect a promotional still featuring the entire cast, but this one is slightly different.
It only focuses on three of the primary characters and boasts a tagline of "Welcome Home."
