- He was killed while filming a test run for a scene in which the Batmobile is blown up, on the set of The Dark Knight (2008), at the test track site in Longcross. Conway had been leaning out of the rear window of a Nissan 4x4 (driven by another special effects technician, Bruce A. Strong) with a camera filming the old American police car (it was used as the unmanned "rocket car"), which was traveling parallel to the Nissan when the driver failed to make a 90 degree left turn at the end of the run, and hit the tree at 34mph. He was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe head injuries. The driver was uninjured.
- He is one of two people to whom the movie The Dark Knight (2008) is dedicated. The other is Heath Ledger. Both men worked on the movie and died before it was released.
