Dubai, Aug 1 (Ians) Australia’s dominant 2-0 Odi series triumph over Ireland in Dublin has seen a majority of their players make big moves in the latest update to the Icc Women’s Player Rankings.
Australia’s off-spin all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, who also won the Icc Women’s Player of the Month for June 2023, reached career-best ranking in all three lists starting with jumping five slots from 21st to 16th and 579 rating points in the batters list after a quick-fire 65 from 39 deliveries in the second match.
She has also moved one place to a personal best fourth place in the bowlers rankings, with 673 points after taking three wickets for 38 runs in the third game. Her efforts also meant Ashleigh got her best ranking of number two and 389 points (from fourth place) in the all-rounders list, that continues to be topped by England’s Natalie Sciver-Brunt, who also continues her stronghold over the top batting position.

Dublin, July 23 (Ians) All-rounder Heather Graham has been ruled out of Australia’s upcoming women’s Odi series against Ireland due to a calf strain. Cricket Australia (CA) added that uncapped allrounder Tess Flintoff will be Heather’s replacement for the three-game series.
Heather was in Australia’s squad for the Odi leg of the Women’s Ashes and retained her spot for the tour of Ireland as a replacement for pacer Megan Schutt, who has gone back home after the end of the multi-format trip to England.
“Graham will remain with the Australian team in Ireland to commence her rehabilitation before returning to Australia to continue this with Cricket Tasmania,” said CA in a statement.

Southampton, July 17 (Ians) On retaining the Women’s Ashes after a three-run win over England in the second Odi at the Ageas Bowl, Australia captain Alyssa Healy commended her team’s pride and conviction in themselves of winning the key moments in the match.
Australia’s thrilling victory at Southampton sees them lead 8-6 on points and retain Women’s Ashes despite losing their last three white-ball games in the series and Nat Sciver-Brunt hitting an unbeaten 111 in the second Odi. But Australia’s ploy of playing four spinners meant they were able to restrict England to 279 in a chase of 283.
“We pride ourselves to win key moments. We came here to win the Ashes and we’ve retained them, it’s exciting and huge congratulations to the group for getting it done. Nat Sciver-Brunt played a pretty incredible innings. I thought she was going to take it away from us in the end.

Southampton, July 17 (Ians) Despite losing the chance of winning the Women’s Ashes after a three-run defeat to Australia in the second Odi at the Ageas Bowl, England captain Heather Knight said the ongoing series has been “the best series there has ever been in the history of the women’s game”.
Vice-captain Nat Sciver-Brunt hit an unbeaten 111, but it was not enough for England to chase down 283 as they finished at 279-7 in their 50 overs. England needed 15 runs from the final over, but Jess Jonassen held her nerve by conceding 11 runs for Australia to retain Women’s Ashes.
“It was an unbelievable game again, wasn’t it? It has got to be the best series there has ever been in the history of the women’s game. Two sides going toe to toe, fighting it out and every game has been pretty close.”
“The way Nat played was unbelievable.

Cape Town, Feb 26 (Ians) Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy had a different take on Harmanpreet Kaur’s unlucky run out in the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup semifinal, saying the India captain could have been inside the crease by an extra two metres if she had made ‘genuine’ effort.
Harmanpreet had kept India in the hunt with a 34-ball 52 in chasing down 173 against Australia on February 23. India needed 41 in 33 balls with six wickets in hand when Harmanpreet swept off leg-spinner Georgia Wareham.
But Ashleigh Gardner threw the ball back from deep mid-wicket to Alyssa, and Harmanpreet, who played the match after two days of fever and a visit to the hospital, did not make a dash for the crease. She was about to reach the crease when the bat got stuck in the ground, and Healy whipped the bails off, catching the Indian short of the crease.

Cape Town, Feb 22 (Ians) As expected, India have made it to the semifinals of 2023 Icc Womens T20 World Cup in South Africa. But to get their ticket to the final, scheduled on February 26, they must overcome the challenge in the form of mighty Australia in the first semi-final of the competition on Thursday.
Australia, also the defending champions, head into the semi-finals as firm favourites, especially with a 3-2 upper hand over India in Women’s T20 World Cup matches. Moreover, Australia got the better of India in the 2020 T20 World Cup final and Commonwealth Games gold medal match last year.
Australia had also won a five-game T20I series in India 4-1, apart from a warm-up match victory earlier in the month. But they will be wary of India’s giant-killing instinct, a glimpse of which was seen when they secured a thrilling super-over victory in the second game...
